Liu Mingzhu felt groggy, unsure of what day it was, constantly seeing the maid’s face before her eyes, with a voice echoing in her ears, “Not being biological, so what? You raised her!”

Liu Mingzhu fumbled on the table, her hand touched a glass of water, the glass fell to the floor, and the sound of it shattering montarily cleared her mind.
She grabbed the dicine bottle, hastily poured out the pills, and swallowed them with her head thrown back.
Closing her eyes, her intense heartbeat seed to gradually calm down, and the voices in her ears slowly faded away.
Her phone rang…
Liu Mingzhu’s gaze appeared blank as she just silently stared at the unfamiliar number on the phone’s display.
The voices vanished.
She exhaled, but suddenly it returned, as if choking in her lungs, and she started coughing violently.
Laughter and play from children downstairs reached her, unclear whether it was real or imagined; she covered her ears firmly.
The phone rang again, as if penetrating every gap and seeping through her fingers.
After what seed like an eternity, the phone stopped ringing.
She closed her eyes, intending to sleep for a while, but was jolted by the sudden ring of the phone.
The phone was on the bedside table, annoying her, and she seed to see the maid again, coaxingly, “Pick it up…”
Her hand uncontrollably answered the call, unaware that on the other side, soone else picked up the phone simultaneously. But after hearing her say “Hello”, the other person remained silent, just quietly listening.
“Hello, is this Ms. Liu Mingzhu?”
“Yes.”
“This is the situation, Tao Yinyin was adopted by a foreign couple, but due to rushing for their flight, the child developed a fever that wasn’t treated in ti, and now the child… has intellectual issues.”
“How could this happen!” Liu Mingzhu covered her mouth.
Though the child was her enemy’s, she was still an innocent child, Liu Mingzhu didn’t want any more ties with her, nor had she wished any misfortune upon the child.
A perfectly healthy child, just in a matter of days, how did she beco… foolish.
The person on the other end of the phone heaved a heavy sigh, “They have now changed their minds and sent the child back, refusing to care for her any longer.”
“What does this have to do with ?”
She was about to say these words, but stopped abruptly as the maid approached.
The person on the phone apologetically continued, “I’m calling because… the child isn’t eating or drinking, just sitting there calling for her mother, if this continues, it might be dangerous.”
Liu Mingzhu felt a heaviness over her heart.
“We know this is difficult for you, but we still hope you could see her, talk to her, even just to feed her a al.”
“Go ahead…” the maid repeated in her other ear.
Liu Mingzhu bit her lower lip hard, but did not agree.
She felt her illness was getting worse, already starting to hallucinate, a sign of severe depression.
She used all her strength to finally hang up the phone.
The person on the other end, hearing the call disconnect, sighed deeply, while soone next to them asked, “How did it go, is she coming?”
The director helplessly responded, “She probably won’t co. It took several calls to get through, and she hung up as soon as I made my request.”
“No definitive reply doesn’t an a refusal. Why don’t you try one more ti?”
The director shook his head, “No, perhaps she is too embarrassed to refuse outright and just wants to realize it and stop calling.”
