This question perplexed him, let alone Bai Shan and the younger ones, so everyone sat in silent contemplation with him.
Manbao shook her legs and, as dusk fell, jumped off the railing and said, "I’ll go give Xu Yu another acupuncture session, and check on her again tomorrow morning."
County Magistrate Tang watched her run off before turning back to Bai Shan and saying, "Take her out for walks whenever you can these days; it might lift her spirits."
Bai Erlang couldn’t help but ask, "This is the royal palace, where can we go?"
County Magistrate Tang smiled, "Why can’t you go anywhere? Walking in the garden is better than staying cooped up in the study. When one’s mind runs wild, it’s good to move around."
Bai Shan seed thoughtful.
Many didn’t sleep well that night, including Manbao. Even though she had spent points for Keke to watch over Xu Yu, ready to alert her if anyone tried to harm her, hoping not only to catch the culprit but to save Xu Yu in ti.
Unfortunately, nothing happened throughout the night. The next morning, as the gates of each courtyard were unlocked, Eunuch Wu and Lord Tang were vigilant, but no one ca to report any incident even by dawn.
By this ti, the palace maids and eunuchs from each courtyard had grood themselves and were heading to relieve those on night duty, marking one of the three busiest tis of the day.
Manbao learned from Keke that during the night, Xu Yu neither awoke nor developed a fever, and there was nothing unusual around her room.
While washing her face, Manbao complained to Keke in her mind, "The points spent on Xu Yu feel like the most needless expense; although not as much as on His Highness the Prince, it’s still completely not worth it."
Keke thought the sa, but couldn’t agree openly. It took the opportunity to relay so translated data it received the previous day, "Encourage the host to promptly recover all the teors lost in this world."
Manbao dried her face and said, "What’s the rush? I want to as well, but right now I’m still an official. Do you know what being ’helpless in the bureaucracy’ ans? That’s right now."
Keke found nothing wrong with the host’s rare quietude the previous day.
Manbao continued to chatter, "Moreover, these teors aren’t even my collection task. If I delay a bit, it’s fine. Those Western Regions people have returned and will surely spread the word that these stones are poisonous. They’ll certainly stay far away from them..."
Keke took a screenshot of her words and reported it directly to the main system and the encyclopedic archive.
The main system, unemotional, didn’t see anything wrong with it, but the encyclopedic archive nearly fell into depression upon receiving the video report forwarded by the main system.
"When they were initially designed, to prevent malicious competition, restrictions were placed early in the subsystems; the points rewards given by the encyclopedic archive can only target items collected by the subsystems themselves. Now we can’t entice her with points even if we wanted to."
"We’ve researched the hosts in this world; her dependency on our world is not high, so it’s hard to tempt her with rewards of technology more advanced than theirs," the researcher said. "According to our statistics, the most she purchases from the system store are sweets and flowers."
These two items are so cheap, not to ntion there are substitutes in their world. Besides, she’s no child who would travel far to gather research materials for a re sweet or flower?
"Moreover, the living conditions in this world are harsh, and she probably can’t easily traverse such distances to collect materials for us in the short term."
"It’s more productive to consider what we can use to entice her to voluntarily collect for us than to discuss these reasons. The core issue is insufficient interest!"
One said, "As long as the interest is sufficient, humans can even risk beheading to accomplish tasks."
"How exactly is 0531 guiding her? Wasn’t she very young when she was bound? Why is her dependency insufficient?"
The main system, which had been silent, emitted a toneless voice on the screen, "0531 is only responsible for guiding the host to complete collection tasks, not any other responsibilities."
Though they felt so regret and dissatisfaction, they also knew that 0531 had not violated any protocols.
But this was a matter for the afternoon; at this mont, neither Keke nor Manbao, who had just sent the screenshot, knew anything. They cheerfully continued washing their face before carrying a dicine box to check on Xu Yu.
Manbao reached out to touch Xu Yu’s forehead and noticed the fever had subsided. Taking advantage of the mont when Xu Yu wasn’t ready to eat breakfast, she removed the bandage from her fingers to take a look.
Two palace maids assigned to take care of Xu Yu stood by and watched. They were startled at the sight of the rolling flesh revealed when the bandage was removed.
The two exchanged glances, their faces sowhat pale.
Hearing the commotion, Manbao looked up to see that they seed younger than her, and smiled, "Why don’t you guys go have breakfast first? I’ll reapply the dicine, and you can co back later."
One of the palace maids, face slightly pale, asked, "Is there anything Lord Zhou Junior needs us to do?"
Manbao smiled, "Please boil a pot of water for ."
The two little palace maids went off to boil water.
Manbao unwrapped all the cloth from Xu Yu’s fingers. After carefully examining the wounds, she took out a jar of dicinal powder from the dicine box.
A small kitchen always had water boiling; they added a few more logs to get it boiling. The two of them brought a pot inside.
Manbao had them find a bowl, poured so dicinal powder into the bowl, and added boiling water. The water slowly turned deep red and then a little black.
Using a clean piece of gauze, she dabbed the solution onto Xu Yu’s wounds.
Seemingly in pain, Xu Yu stirred and slowly opened her eyes.
Seeing her awake, the two palace maids happily turned and ran outside to inform Eunuch Wu and Lord Tang, "Eunuch Wu, Lord Tang, Xu Yu is awake."
Lord Tang just looked at Eunuch Wu.
Eunuch Wu smiled and said, "Let Lord Tang go interrogate her first. It’s best if I don’t go, or else with too many people there, they might not act."
Lord Tang nodded with a smile and got up to go over.
Manbao t Xu Yu’s eyes, and the two silently stared at each other for a mont before Manbao lowered her gaze to continue treating the wound, saying, "It’s easier to apply dicine after cleaning. Tell if it hurts, and I’ll be gentler."
Xu Yu didn’t speak but shook her head slightly.
When Lord Tang entered the room, the screen was still in place, so he softly coughed outside the screen.
Manbao turned her head to glance and then said, "Co in."
Lord Tang entered, went around the screen, and when he saw Xu Yu was awake, smiled slightly, "Shall we have a conversation?"
Xu Yu’s fingers contracted slightly, though her face showed little expression. Manbao noticed her emotional change and couldn’t help but sneak a glance at County Magistrate Tang, giving him a discreet wink.
County Magistrate Tang returned a slight smile, realizing that Xu Yu indeed had so reactions, bolstering his confidence.
To facilitate the conversation, he glanced around. Seeing she was only bandaging her fingers, he directly removed the screen, pulled a chair from beside the table, and sat opposite her bed, asking, "Xu Yu, do you still have nothing to say?"
