Capítulo 1811: Chapter 1786: Hard Work

Because of the phrase “tis create heroes,” after Manbao and the others finished dinner, they didn’t go out to play as usual. Instead, they returned to the Chongwen Pavilion with the necessary materials to continue their work, determined to write the morial well.

Yin Huo, who usually wasn’t very concerned, decided to help them out by taking over Bai Shan’s and Bai Er’s tasks from their studies.

While they were working at the desk, he took the book list and checked the books in the library one by one, removing the misplaced ones and putting back the correct ones.

This was the end-of-year task for these Chongwen Pavilion students—each was responsible for a few rows of bookshelves.

Organizing books didn’t seem exhausting, but after doing it for half an hour, even Yin Huo, who was normally afraid of the cold, started to sweat. The constant climbing up and down was really tiring.

He stood to rest for a mont, felt a bit tired, and decisively put down the book in his hand. He folded the book list and tucked it into his sleeve before turning to find Zhou Man and the others.

Manbao and the others had already lit the lamp. Although the day was still bright, the light was a bit dim for writing at the desk.

Yin Huo walked in slowly, glanced at the three of them, and asked, “Aren’t you taking a break?”

The three of them raised their heads to look at him and then turned their heads to look at the sky outside.

Bai Erlang, who had been writing enthusiastically, suddenly felt sleepy and looked at Bai Shan and Zhou Man with puppy-dog eyes.

Manbao glanced at the things they had listed and noticed there were only a few left, so she said, “Let’s finish it tonight; I can start writing the morial tomorrow.”

Bai Shan also nodded, “You don’t have any classes at the Imperial dical Academy tomorrow, right? In the morning, you can write the morial, and in the afternoon, I’ll check it for you. Finally, let the teacher review it before we make a clean copy.”

They planned the day to be fully utilized.

Manbao nodded, “The Imperial dical Academy has finished exams. These two days, they’re cleaning the academy and the dorms in preparation for the New Year, so they don’t need .”

Yin Huo didn’t mind at all, so he casually picked up a book from Manbao’s desk. When he opened it, he found it was a dical text he had never even heard of.

Manbao glanced at it and said, “This is a dical text written by a doctor who returned to the North in the previous dynasty. It’s about diseases they encountered after their family migrated south. So diseases have redies ntioned and noted as resolved, but there are more illnesses without redies. They can only be alleviated with other herbs, and so poisonous plants and stones are used. I find it very interesting, so I took it out to read when I’m free. If you’re interested, you can look at it; there are a lot of stories that are particularly intriguing.”

Yin Huo opened it from the middle and happened to see a story where a doctor passed by a small village. There was a woman there whose belly was as big as a lon, making it seem like she was pregnant. Her in-laws believed she was pregnant, so they took great care of her. However, a year passed, and she didn’t give birth. Rumors started in the village, so since he was a wandering doctor, the woman asked him to diagnose her.

Her face was sallow, her cheeks slightly blue, and her pulse weak…

Bai Shan leaned over to glance at the section he was reading and, for so reason, suddenly shuddered, looking like he wanted to say sothing but stopped.

Yin Huo also found the story very captivating. Although much of it described the woman’s complexion, the condition of her limbs, even her body’s sll and pulse, he still wanted to know what illness she had. So, he turned the page to continue reading.

Bai Shan put down his pen, glanced at Yin Huo, and then turned to look at Manbao, a bit accusingly, “So of the stories in there aren’t suitable for him to read, right?”

Manbao looked up, puzzled, “Not suitable? I think the stories are written quite well?”

Bai Shan turned back to Yin Huo and, seeing his face suddenly turn pale, asked with concern, “Do you need a basin?”

Yin Huo closed the book and shook his head tightly, “No, I’m fine.”

Bai Erlang, restless and already not wanting to copy the materials, leaned over and looked at him too, asking, “What’s wrong? What story are you reading?”

Bai Shan said, “A small village by a river in the south, a woman’s belly as big as a lon…”

Bai Erlang shivered and quickly reached out to stop him, “Stop, stop, stop, don’t say any more, I don’t want to hear it. Let’s get on with the work; it’s almost dark. Soon the Chongwen Pavilion will close, and we can’t return to our room to write, can we?”

Yin Huo took a mont, suppressing the feeling of nausea and fear, before asking, “Have you all read this story?”

Manbao nodded.

Bai Shan and Bai Erlang both had an expression of unspeakable complexity.

Bai Erlang pointed at Bai Shan with an accusatory face, “He read it and told it as a story to when going to bed. It disgusted so much.”

Bai Shan pointed at Manbao, “She said she found a very interesting story and got it specifically for to read.”

Manbao mumbled quietly, “It is interesting! I’m doing this for your own good. Didn’t you used to like copying my Fourth and Fifth Brothers by scooping up a ladle of water and drinking it straight? Now you know, right? There’s worms in the water; if you drink untreated water, the worms might not be killed by the body, and they can reproduce inside human bodies…”

“Ah—” Bai Shan and Bai Erlang couldn’t help but shout together, stopping her, “Stop saying it! Do you still want us to help you look up information and copy things?”

Yin Huo’s face was just starting to look better, but at this point, for so unknown reason, he got scared again, turning pale.

The aftermath of this incident was that for a long ti, Yin Huo was reluctant to drink water. When he did, it had to be boiled twice, and seeing the steam rise, confirming no invisible worms survived, would he drink it.

However, he was curious, “Why did you all like drinking untreated water when you were young?”

Bai Shan and Bai Erlang opened their mouths but after a while turned to look at Manbao.

Manbao sheepishly admitted, “Untreated water is surprisingly sweet and refreshing; I tried drinking it once when I was young.”

However, it was only once because Keke stopped her, and it was from then on she learned that untreated water harbored so many things, so visible, others invisible, and it was terrifying.

Bai Shan continued, “And don’t you think drinking with a big ladle feels like those heroes in stories drinking wine?”

Yin Huo, who grew up in a dicated environnt, found it hard to understand this.

Bai Erlang took the opportunity to recomnd his storybooks, “I have lots of books under my bed. Want to borrow so?”

Yin Huo asked, “How do they compare to the biography you wrote of Brother Xiang?”

Bai Erlang proudly said, “Naturally, they can’t compare, but they’re worth reading. I used to find them very interesting.”

And so the four couldn’t help but start exchanging the storybooks they read. As they chatted, they finished copying the materials in their hands, and three of the four finally managed to clear the inappropriate images from their minds.

As for the other, she never felt the image needed to be cleared. When Director Xiao gave her the book, he said that students dispatched to the Southern dical Academy in the future would need to learn how to deal with these diseases, so the two studied so cases in detail.
