Capítulo 2084: Chapter 2059: State of Mind

Manbao said, “Our Imperial Hospital also doesn’t have a specific prescription. The only way to prevent and treat is to isolate the virus. Even if you co in contact, you must cover your mouth and nose, wash your hands frequently, and try to keep things that have been in contact with the sick away from your mouth and nose. Clothes, quilts, and so on should ideally be boiled before use…”

There may be so effect, but it’s actually impossible to isolate completely. Smallpox is probably the most contagious disease Manbao has seen, and it survives for a long ti.

After this, who knows where it will hide, perhaps in a dark corner or a speck of dust, and then, a year or so later, it attaches itself to so unlucky person and spreads again.

So to try to isolate the virus as much as possible, the thod she could think of was boiling, using hot water for disinfection.

This, however, requires a large amount of firewood. Now it’s winter, and warming up is hard enough as it is. When it snows, the available firewood becos even scarcer.

Yet Yang Heshu did not ntion difficulties. He noted Manbao’s precautions and, after nodding, led her into a courtyard.

The courtyard had three main rooms, two on each side, plus the side rooms, making a total of nine rooms, all filled with people.

Each side room only had four beds, while the other rooms had six, although they were still a bit more spacious than the side rooms.

Ms. Cui was in the legitimate wife’s quarters, with only three of the six beds occupied. She heard that more people would be moving in tomorrow.

Because it was won inside, Yang Heshu did not enter imdiately but knocked on the door, signaling to those inside that there was a male visitor.

Since the doctors were all n, the people inside were always properly dressed, and soon soone ca to open the door.

Ying Yue opened the door and, upon seeing Yang Heshu, her eyes reddened, “Master, Madam, the Master is here.”

After saying this, she curiously glanced at the person he brought along. Manbao took off her hood, and Ying Yue’s eyes widened with delight, “Miss Man!”

Excitedly, she turned and ran inside, “Madam, Miss Man is here, Miss Man has co.”

Yang Heshu: …

Manbao and others: …

Bai Shan left Daji waiting outside, and he and Bai Erlang followed Yang Heshu and Manbao inside. As they entered, a wave of heat greeted them, clearly from a burning brazier.

Ying Yue helped Ms. Cui sit up, but Manbao quickly stepped forward to restrain her, “Sister-in-law, don’t move.”

Ms. Cui glanced at Yang Heshu, retreated slightly, and whispered, “Don’t get too close, be careful not to catch it.”

Yang Heshu continued to approach and said softly, “I’ve always been healthy, nothing will happen. Haven’t I been in and out of the epidemic area every day before?”

Manbao had already touched Ms. Cui’s hand, which was very hot. She reached out to feel her forehead and then checked her pulse, “Besides the fever and rash, is there anywhere else you feel uncomfortable?”

Ms. Cui looked at Yang Heshu. Seeing that he had no intention of leaving, she replied to Manbao, “I feel weak all over, and the headache is severe.”

Ying Yue added, “Madam can’t sleep at night, her body itches, and she feels sore all over. In short, she feels uncomfortable everywhere.”

Manbao examined her tongue and eyes, then understood.

She nodded and said, “Your rash hasn’t fully co out yet, so you can’t suppress it. But I can use acupuncture to lower your temperature slightly and wipe your hands and feet with warm water. It will help sowhat. Later, I’ll prescribe so ointnt to make you feel a bit better.”

The breath that Ms. Cui had been holding finally released. Perhaps due to her great trust in Zhou Man, once she released it, she felt even more dizzy and her pain intensified.

Seeing this, Manbao took the dicine box from Bai Shan’s hands, opened it, and took out the needle pouch, “Let’s do this now.”

Yang Heshu then led Bai Shan and Bai Erlang out.

As soon as they left, the two other patients in the sa room asked the maid to move the screen, curiously looking over.

Usually very courteous, Ms. Cui didn’t notice their gazes and lay on the bed with her eyes slightly closed, face flushed.

Manbao primarily inserted needles into her limbs, with two on her chest.

She reached out to feel her breath, noted that the exhaled air was hot, frowned, and pondered for a while before writing a prescription. After writing it, she couldn’t help but change two herbs before handing it to Ying Yue.

“The top part is to drink, the bottom is to rub on. Get both, but first brew the drinkable one, quickly.”

Ying Yue stiffened, imdiately took the prescription, and went out.

Yang Heshu was already quietly discussing the managent of this retreat with Bai Shan and Bai Erlang, saying, “Initially, I wanted to dedicate this entire courtyard to female patients and another to male patients. However, so families have multiple sick individuals, both mothers, and children, fathers, and daughters, husbands, and wives. Separating them too far not only causes an uproar but also makes them worry, which isn’t good for recovery.”

That’s why he divided the retreat into two, families could stay together in the sa retreat as long as their conditions weren’t too different, making visiting and caring for each other much easier.

Bai Shan listened attentively. Yang Heshu had already decided to let them manage this retreat temporarily as practice.

In the middle of speaking, Ying Yue hurried out with the prescription, making Yang Heshu stop talking. He took the slip of paper and handed it to Wantian, whispering, “Go get the dicine quickly.”

Wantian agreed and ran towards the main hall.

There was already dicine purchased by the office over there, and if it wasn’t enough, there were stationed pharmacies with a wide variety of herbs.

Manbao twisted the needles, then checked her temperature, and switched to a different acupuncture technique.

Although Ying Yue didn’t understand dicine, she knew things weren’t good seeing the wife’s face becoming redder and her body warming up.

Manbao removed the needles and asked Ying Yue to pull back the screen, then undressed Ms. Cui to apply needles directly on her body.

The two patients watching curiously were disappointed as they looked at the screen and exchanged confused glances.

Being able to share a room with Ms. Cui ant they weren’t of low status, at least not in Xiazhou. However, their family backgrounds were still far from matching Ms. Cui’s.

Nevertheless, their husbands’ and families’ standings were quite influential in Xiazhou.

Because of this, the two doctors in this retreat were among the best in Xiazhou. Seeing a young female doctor treating Ms. Cui surprised them both.

Manbao’s hands were quick and steady; soon, needles covered Ms. Cui’s back. Ying Yue was a bit afraid just looking at them.

Manbao continuously twirled the needles, sweat beading on her forehead. She checked the ti and said to Ying Yue, “Go see if the dicine is ready, bring it quickly.”

Ying Yue responded and went out, shortly returning with a steaming bowl of dicine.

Manbao awakened Ms. Cui with the needles. Although Ms. Cui was groggy, feeling quite faint, Manbao waited for the dicine to cool a bit and then poured the whole bowl down her throat, telling her, “Sister-in-law, when I ca today, I hugged Brother Qi for a mont. His eyes were swollen from crying, and even giving him candy didn’t cheer him up.”
