The prescriptions that were modified several tis through observation of the patients began to be disseminated across various regions by the Xiazhou City governnt office. Imperial Doctor Lu watched the official take away the five prescriptions written by Zhou Man, tucked into official docunts, and couldn’t help but sigh.

A while back, Zhou Man modified a few prescriptions, which were then carefully administered to so patients. Based on their feedback, adjustnts were made, and combined with his earlier prescription, they could generally treat all smallpox patients.

Adults, won, children, the elderly, those with weak constitutions, and those who are strong — each type of person requires a different prescription. But with the modification of these few prescriptions, they generally suited the patients of the various pulse cases they were observing.

Among these, one prescription was his own, three were Zhou Man’s, and another was devised previously by the doctors in Xiazhou City.

He initially thought that afterward they would each keep their own, but unexpectedly Zhou Man directly announced them widely.

Imperial Doctor Lu glanced at Zhou Man, recalling her generosity when it ca to dical techniques, he said nothing more.

With his hands behind his back, he turned around and said: "Let’s go, everyone should go and check on the new patients admitted today."

Up until now, the dical tents have seen more people cured and discharged daily than those who have died and been carried out.

Of course, the number of patients admitted daily is not small either.

But watching the patients cured and leave daily, the doctors’ passion is reignited, and they continue to bury themselves in patient care.

It has been half a month already, and Manbao hasn’t slept more than three hours a day, yet she still feels quite energetic.

Bai Shan is even more taxing both ntally and physically compared to Zhou Man; she works hard, but what she does now is what she excels at — healing.

Bai Shan is different. He is now Yang Heshu’s right-hand man and is handling these administrative affairs for the first ti. Although guided by Yang Heshu, many tasks are being undertaken for the first ti and require considerable effort.

But the advantages are obvious too. With the joint efforts of provincial and county officials, the grievances among the city’s citizens have lessened significantly. Now, the city gates open three tis a day, each ti for about half an hour, and no one tries to rush out or sneak into the capital anymore.

Since the arrival of the Imperial Hospital’s doctors in Xiazhou City, those families who were eager to leave the city have also quieted down, instead turning to pressure the County Governntal Office and the doctors, wanting to request consults.

But now, Xiazhou City’s two main figures — one is Yang Heshu, whose own wife is residing in the other courtyard for treatnt; the other is General Gong, whose younger brother, cousin, three nephews, and two sisters-in-law are also receiving treatnt there. Why should others receive special exceptions from the doctors?

Not to ntion Manbao and Imperial Doctor Lu, even those busy in the other courtyard like Imperial Doctor Zheng weren’t requested for individual consultations; ultimately, patients were obediently sent to the other courtyard for unified treatnt.

Families with female relatives being admitted still wanted to request Manbao particularly.

Initially, people bypassed Yang Heshu and directly found the manager of the dical tents who approached Manbao; Manbao didn’t refuse, only saying, "I’ll go after I finish seeing the patients I’m currently attending to."

But... how could she finish with the patients in her care?

The manager who ca to invite her covered his nose and followed Zhou Man as she rotated through several dical tents, from morning till afternoon, seeing there were still so many patients she hadn’t seen, he couldn’t help but urge her a few tis, but Manbao didn’t pay any attention to him. Instead, she instructed him to help with tasks like fetching hot water, or looking for a stove.

By the ti the manager left, the sun was almost setting, yet Zhou Man hadn’t taken any more breaks; except for als and water, she almost didn’t stop.

The manager silently left one household, only to find another. For those few days, Manbao’s surroundings were quite lively.

When people stopped coming, Manbao felt a bit regretful. While holding a bowl and squatting with Assistant Doctor Luo to eat in the cold wind, she remarked, "Actually, it was quite good when they ca. They never ca empty-handed and there were always people to lend a hand."

Assistant Doctor Qin and Assistant Doctor Luo also reminisced, "Last ti Madam Chen had people send roast chicken, it was really good. Such a pity."

Manbao nodded in agreent, "Indeed, such a pity."

Sadly, it was only for one al, and now no one cos looking for her.

The three sighed then continued scooping cabbage in their bowls, swallowing it with rice; Assistant Doctor Qin told them so news he gathered, "I heard tomorrow morning we’ll have vegetable buns."

Manbao felt a bit happier, "Vegetable buns are sowhat better than just cabbage and rice."

The two assistant doctors agreed with this sentint.

"Manbao—"

Manbao turned her head to look, only to see Bai Shan carrying two lunchboxes over, giving one to Assistant Doctor Qin, smiling, "These are dumplings made at ho, both of you try them."

Assistant Doctor Qin and Assistant Doctor Luo’s eyes lit up; they imdiately took the lunchbox and went to another corner to eat, leaving this spot for them.

Manbao also stared intently at... the lunchbox!

Bai Shan opened the lunchbox saying, "This was sent by Lijun, made with beef and there’s beef bone soup."

Manbao first drank the soup, feeling revived after a sip of the steaming hot broth; she asked, "Over at Imperial Doctor Lu’s..."

I had soone send it over."

Manbao nodded, sighing, "Now it seems just my fourth brother has enough at to eat; doesn’t everyone else in the city lack at?"

Bai Shan nodded, "Even vegetables are scarce; now dical tents are set up outside the city too. These days, I’ve already contacted soone, planning to go out inspecting the village tomorrow, and I’ll see if there are vegetables and at and eggs. If there are, I’ll buy so back."

He said, "This trip might take seven or eight days to return."

Manbao was shocked, "So long?"

Bai Shan nodded, "Yang Scholarly Senior Brother and I decided to visit every village under Xiazhou City’s jurisdiction, count the number of infected. So villages are blocked off after becoming infected themselves, concerned they might not be aware of the dicines and consultations available outside. We need to count and inform them."

Manbao asked, "Bringing any doctors?"

"Just one military doctor," he paused and laughed, "Because you’ve transferred the military camp patients over, this ti General Gong generously lent us a military doctor. With the five prescriptions you provided, as long as the pulse diagnosis is accurate, we can prescribe dicine to save people."

"Wasn’t there talk of insufficient dicinal herbs, how much are you bringing this ti?"

"Not too much," Bai Shan roughly listed the amount of various dicinal herbs being brought, then said, "News from the capital has arrived. The Ministry of Revenue has sent another batch of dicinal herbs over; accompanying them are students from the Imperial Hospital and doctors recruited from the civilian level. The official docunt stated twenty-eight people in total."

Manbao was astonished, "So many people?"

Bai Shan nodded.

Manbao joyfully said, "Once they arrive, we can free up so hands here. When will they get here?"

"In about three to two days," Bai Shan lowered his voice asking, "Have you talked with your father-in-law about the pills?"

Manbao’s face turned bitter, nodding, "I did, it’s fine."

Bai Shan chuckled seeing this, reached out to pat her head, "This ti on my journey, I’ll be on the lookout, if I find any interesting flora, I’ll bring them back for you."
