Capítulo 2124: Chapter 2099: Toxic Arts

“The most important thing in raising children is to be attentive. There are ways to raise them in poverty and ways in wealth. I think this child was quite lucky in his birth. Slowly raise him, and once he passes the first month, he’ll be fine.” This is Ms. Qian’s insight from years of raising children. She said, “Even the weakest child will have one foot firmly on the ground after a month. Be more careful, raise them through three months, then through three years, and by eight years old, they’re considered half grown. So you have to take it step by step. As parents, they may be anxious, but you, as a doctor, cannot be in a rush.”

Manbao agreed, “Mom, you are really amazing.”

Ms. Qian lightly tapped her nose and laughed, “Little flatterer. No matter how amazing I am, I only know the basics. How could I know more than you, the doctor?”

“Not at all,” she said, “So experiences only you can have. What you learn from books isn’t always entirely correct.”

Ms. Qian smiled and said, “You’ll understand when you beco a mother yourself in the future.”

Speaking of this, Ms. Qian furrowed her brows as she looked at Manbao. After hesitating for a mont, she asked, “Manbao, you’re not that young anymore. We originally planned for you to get married next year, not too early or too late, just right. But now you want to go to that Western Regions. I heard from your fourth brother that it’s very far?”

Manbao, feeling a bit guilty, replied, “Actually, it’s not that far.”

“Will you be back next year?”

Manbao thought for a mont and said, “If everything goes smoothly, I should be. If not, it’s possible I’ll stay an extra year or two.”

Ms. Qian sighed, “Then we’ll have to postpone the wedding.”

Suddenly, she smiled and said, “That’s no problem, since both of you are traveling together, Old Madam Liu should have plans.”

Over the years, as Manbao’s dical skills improved, Ms. Qian occasionally heard her talk about health preservation and knew it was better for girls to marry and have children a little later.

Didn’t the Liu Family keep Liu Sanniang at ho until she was almost twenty before marrying her off?

Thinking this way, Ms. Qian was happy again. Holding Manbao’s hand, she said, “Be careful on your journey. Don’t wander around recklessly. Wherever you go, take soone with you, understand? You’re a girl, even in an official position, you’re no match for n in a fight.”

Manbao nodded repeatedly.

Speaking of this, should she prepare sothing else in case of danger? But she’s not very familiar with poisons.

Who in the Imperial Hospital is familiar with poisons?

It seems she should consult Director Xiao when she enters the palace tomorrow.

Director Xiao almost spit out his tea when Manbao ntioned this. He nervously glanced outside, found no one paying attention, closed the door, and asked in a low voice, “Why are you asking this? If you ask about this in the palace, others might think you have ulterior motives.”

Manbao said, “You’re overthinking it. I’m going to the Western Regions, after all, and it’s dangerous there. I want to make so things for self-defense.”

Director Xiao said, “This isn’t even confird yet, and you’re already preparing?”

“It’s not early. If this experint is successful, my trip to the Western Regions is almost certain. It’s called planning ahead, don’t you know?” Manbao said. “Poisons aren’t easy to learn. It’s best to learn in advance, right?”

Director Xiao was silent for a while and then said, “If you ask who in the Imperial Hospital is best at poison, no, detoxification, that would be .”

Manbao looked at Director Xiao with surprise.

Director Xiao waved his hand at her, “Don’t look at like that. I can’t make poisons, only detoxify them.”

Not true, soone who detoxifies would know how to poison, right?

Director Xiao continued, “I have a book at ho. I can lend it to you for a few days.”

Manbao’s eyes lit up as she bowed repeatedly in thanks, “Thank you, Director Xiao, you’re truly a good person.”

The good Director Xiao felt a brief mont of heartache. But… As Zhou Man said, the journey to the Western Regions is dangerous. He can’t control natural disasters, but there might be bandits along the way, so preparations are necessary.

She’s not just a star of the Imperial Hospital but also a rising star of the entire Great Jin. Director Xiao couldn’t bear for anything to happen to her.

Even if sotis he couldn’t help feeling envious of her.

That evening, after they left the palace, Director Xiao indeed sent soone to deliver a book to Manbao. Manbao was overjoyed when she opened the well-wrapped book.

It indeed detailed detoxification thods, but above each thod, it described the poison clearly, with annotations next to it explaining why a particular antidote was chosen.

As she looked through it, she noticed Director Xiao’s handwriting was rare, it seed to be left by an ancestor.

Manbao imdiately took it back to her room to copy it down, missing Bai Shan as she did so. Tomorrow, she had to attend classes at the Imperial dical Office and then visit the royal estates to see patients. If everything went smoothly, they would start smallpox vaccination the next day, leaving her with even less ti free.

Perhaps tomorrow she should make a trip to the palace, give the book to Bai Shan, and let him help copy it?

Manbao opened the book and planned in her mind.

But the next day, she didn’t have the chance to visit the palace. When she arrived at the Imperial dical Office, Imperial Doctor Liu handed her a warrant, “Director Xiao asked to give this to you. The Marquess has fallen ill, and the Yang Family and Imperial Hospital have requested an imperial doctor. Director Xiao wants you to take a look.”

Manbao took the warrant, puzzled, “What’s her illness? Last ti I visited the Marquis’s ho, it was quite lively, and she was hosting guests.”

Imperial Doctor Liu shook his head, “You’ll know once you see. It’s not an ergency, you can go today.”

Manbao put away the warrant, “I’ll go in the afternoon. After class, we have to vaccinate patients at the royal estate.”

Imperial Doctor Liu’s eyebrow twitched as he smiled and reminded, “When you see patients, don’t say you just ca from there.”

Otherwise, you’ll scare soone into falling ill if they’re not already.

Manbao responded, “I won’t deliberately ntion it.”

After class, Manbao hurried to the royal estate, where Director Xiao and Imperial Doctor Lu were already present. They had examined twelve patients and, when they saw her, said, “You check them as well. If all is well, we’ll vaccinate today.”

Manbao agreed and went to examine the patients.

After nourishing for five days, they looked much healthier, although they had so underlying injuries from past illnesses, but nothing major.

Manbao nodded in agreent to proceed with the vaccination.

The three of them then put on masks and went into the pharmacy to prepare the dicine.

They used scabs collected from patients numbered two and three, prepared them, and inserted them into the patients’ noses, marking them properly.

By the ti they finished, it was already late afternoon. Director Xiao looked at the sky and said, “I’ll stay tonight. You both can leave. Imperial Doctor Zhou, don’t forget you have an outpatient appointnt.”

Manbao agreed and then looked at Imperial Doctor Lu, “Imperial Doctor Lu, let’s leave together.”

Imperial Doctor Lu said sullenly, “I’m on duty at the Imperial Hospital tonight. I need to return now to sleep.”

Manbao almost forgot about this and gave him a sympathetic look before changing into clean clothes and shoes and leaving.
