Capítulo 2163: Chapter 2138: Giving Up

The tribal leader was very enthusiastic. When he learned that Zhou Man and his companions would be staying for a few days to teach them the dical skills for diagnosing smallpox before leaving, he beca even more hospitable and imdiately decided they should camp here temporarily.

He also ordered several tents to be set up for them to live in.

When Yin Huo and the others couldn’t stop looking at their cattle and horses, he even had the herdsn take them to see them.

Bai Shan nodded slightly at Yin Huo, and only after they left did he turn and ask the tribal leader, “I wonder about the antelopes we wanted…”

The tribal leader imdiately said, “They found the herd of wild goats yesterday and have been watching them. Today they will surely go to the waterhole to drink, and then we can catch them.”

Bai Shan nodded in satisfaction.

Manbao, on the other hand, was teaching Gu Lu, essentially having soone observe and asking him what pulses he could feel.

Gu Lu was extrely nervous, even more so than when he was taught by the previous shaman as a child.

He… naturally didn’t make much progress.

Zhou Liru, who was beside him, couldn’t help but look at Gu Lu. His face was sallow, indicating a possible gastrointestinal illness or a liver problem. By asking about his regular diet and feeling the pulse for confirmation, the illness should be identifiable, right?

Gu Lu had given up and withdrew his hands, saying, “Miss Zhou, perhaps I should choose four people to learn from you instead?”

Manbao asked, “Do they understand pharmacology?”

Gu Lu nodded, “They have all studied with .”

Although he only had two disciples, before officially finalizing the two of them, there were many children studying with him. The two were chosen from a group of children.

Moreover, he also taught the tribe mbers how to gather herbs. These children had learned the herb identification from him, so… they should know pharmacology, right?

Anyway, Gu Lu was certain they knew, so he called his two disciples over, but seeing that two were missing, he asked, “Where are Aynara and Agu?”

“Aynara went to herd the sheep, and Agu went to find her.”

Upon hearing this, Manbao decided to wait for them. Coincidentally, she had returned last night and prepared dicine for the patients she saw.

Especially the children with worms in their stomachs.

Manbao looked at Zhou Liru.

Zhou Liru took out a bundle from the dicine basket, containing four packs of dicine, one of which was particularly large. She handed it to one of the people, saying, “This is deworming dicine. How many children are there in your tribe? Boil it in a large pot with water for an hour, and let all children under sixteen drink a bowl.”

Manbao almost spat out the tea she had just sipped upon hearing this. She glared at Zhou Liru, “This dosage is for eight people.”

She added, “Even if there are many children here needing deworming, you can’t just boil it all once in a big pot. Boil a dosage for eight, then add water to boil the second and third doses, mix them and give it to them. If there’s not enough, we can prepare more doses.”

Zhou Liru scratched her head. During the ti of urgent smallpox treatnt, they prepared dicine in this way. Although it’s not urgent now, Zhou Liru agreed.

Seeing the person accepting the dicine muttering and seemingly unable to rember, she simply went with him to boil the dicine. She watched them add water and firewood, instructed them to simr for half an hour, then turned back to find her little aunt.

Aynara and Agu had arrived, both around thirteen or fourteen years old, noticeably older than Gu Lu’s two disciples. Upon arrival, they knelt to greet Gu Lu and then respectfully kowtowed towards Zhou Man.

Manbao couldn’t help but glance at Gu Lu. Seeing him indifferent, she raised her hand for them to rise.

Looking down, she could see their feet. Their shoes were quite worn, with Agu’s toes peeking out.

Manbao lowered her eyes, then monts later looked up with a smile, glancing over their fingernails.

“Do you know dical theory?”

Agu couldn’t help but glance at Gu Lu, then said, “We’ve learned herb identification with the shaman, so we know a bit.”

Manbao didn’t tell them that was pharmacology, not dical theory. Instead, she pointed to a nearby mat and said, “Sit down. I’ll tell you about the pulse of smallpox.”

She paused and then asked, “Have you seen patients with smallpox?”

The four nodded. Several months ago, many in their tribe contracted smallpox.

“What were the smallpox patients you saw like?” Manbao pointed to Aynara, “You first.”

Aynara thought for a mont and said, “They develop many pimples on their bodies, have fever, so vomit, feel weak all over, and so die.”

Manbao nodded and began to explain in detail how smallpox manifests…

All four listened carefully. Although her language in the local dialect wasn’t excellent, they could still communicate well, especially with Zhou Liru beside, who could quickly fill in any words Manbao couldn’t recall.

So, with one teaching and four learning, it soon beca two teaching and four learning.

The shaman sat for a while, realizing they hadn’t learned anything new as he already knew this content. He got up and left.

Outside the tent, Bai Shan was talking to the tribal leader. When he saw him co out, they exchanged glances and began a conversation. The tribal leader found an excuse to depart first.

Mr. Zhuang and the others were slower, but not by much. Before long, they arrived, and the outside beca lively as everyone welcod the arriving guests.

The tribal leader and the shaman hadn’t anticipated so many people in their caravan, and so had an air of severity, visibly not typical caravan guards.

The tribal leader arranged them on another side, separating them a bit from their tents, though the gap wasn’t significant, just slightly smaller in the middle.

Manbao lifted the tent flap and stepped out. Just as she felt the tent was a bit dimly lit, she turned to the four and said, “Let’s go outside, and I’ll show you how to check pulses.”

The four agreed.

Thus, Manbao led them around the camp, examining people’s complexions, selecting a few casually and teaching them to identify pulses little by little.

She already realized these who claid to know dical theory actually just knew so herbs, not much dical theory.

So, teaching had to start from scratch.

However, pulse-taking isn’t sothing one can learn overnight. Although she found it not very difficult, she was prepared for them potentially not learning it even after a few days. So, as Manbao taught them, she also wrote down the pulses they should rember to give them later.

Aynara watched for a while and then said, “Miss Zhou, we don’t know how to read.”

Manbao paused, a bit troubled, “You don’t know Chinese characters, do you know the Turkic script?”

Aynara hesitated and looked at Agu.

Agu said, “I know so.”

Manbao said, “Then later I’ll speak, and you write it down, so if you don’t rember, you can refer to the notes.”

Agu agreed.

Unbeknownst to her, Bai Shan had wandered over and said to Manbao in Chinese, “I just found out this little girl was to be the next shaman, but she made a mistake last year.”
