Rex’s first thought before waking up was that he recognized the place by its light.
"Ah shit... here we go again."
He was back in Lustia’s domain.
"I’m starting to think that the fatigue bullshit was your doing."
There was a certain kind of light in Lustia’s domain that wasn’t sunlight or any other man-made source. It was the kind of light that existed in places that were defined by a divine idea rather than physics.
It was warm without being directed, there without being in the way, and it had been the sa every ti Rex had been here.
Lustia was laughing while perched on her throne, which appeared as goofy and cozy as it always had.
It was not the polite, social kind of laughter that is typically restrained. The genuine laughter, which engaged her entire body, had clearly been ongoing for so ti before Rex noticed it, as it was already fully expressed by the ti he beca aware of it.
"Hahahahaha~! What’s with that look? It seems like you’re tired seeing , huh?"
"More like enough because eting you right now is unnecessary."
"Ouch... that hurts a lot, my dear apostle," she said when the laughter had died down. "Anyway~!"

Rex looked at her from across the domain. "I’m glad you enjoyed it."
"But for ... that was only the beginning of the fun." Rex crossed his arms. "I had a lot in mind."
"Well, I enjoyed it by a lot," she said, which made her laugh again, but she was able to hold it in. "I spent twenty minutes unable to stop making noise when you used Xavier’s face to freeze Apollo in the middle of an engagent."

She leaned forward on the throne.
"And then," she said, "the absolute ceiling."
"Which you did not manufacture, by the way... I want to be clear that I’m aware of that."
"You pushed him toward it; you constructed the conditions that made it possible, but the magnitude of it was Apollo’s."
"You let him be the thing that destroyed almost half of Aethelgard!"
Rex looked at her.
"And then," she said, sounding like soone who had just gotten to the part they liked best, "you stood in front of the crowd and defended him."
"You used the truth to keep him safe from the consequences that would have made him less useful to your plans, and you did it so well that the headmaster thanked you for it."
"I bet your growing reputation has really upset those Nightwings, especially Theo."
She leaned back.
"I’ve been running apostles for a long ti," she said, "and I’ve never had one who was this clear about the difference between destroying soone and controlling the speed and direction of their destruction."
"Okay, okay, is that all you want to yap about," Rex said. "I want to go back as fast as I can now because I really want to kill soone after I say all of that bullshit."
"Aw~! Co on now..." Lustia smiled. "You know that there’s always sothing attached when I call you here."
She moved her head to the side.
"You’ve reached seven maximum bonds," she said. "That’s a level we’ve talked about before, especially the Subordinate Vessels."
Rex then raised his head. "On second thought... it seems like I didn’t need that at all."
"Oh?" Lustia tilted her head. "Why’s that?"
"Considering how effectively the Avatar Creation skill has worked for , I believe I can handle everything on my own without assistance from those won."
"Besides... I don’t want to risk another failure like what Lilith and those useless maids did, so it’s better if I work alone with myself, which is the Avatar."
Lustia rested her cheek on her hand and asked, "Are you certain about that?"
"One hundred percent sure..."
"You really are the best Apostle I could hope for with that way of thinking, my dear apostle." Lustia nodded. "Okay... then I’ll change that to sothing that suits you the most."
Rex waited. "It better be sothing worth it."

Rex thought about this for a while. "Immortality is in the list, but it seems like I don’t need that at all because of avatar creation."

Rex smirked. "You’re giving a way to learn skills that I couldn’t afford otherwise."
"I’m offering you a pathway that requires you to do what you were going to do anyway," she said, "with won who want it, in circumstances that are mutually chosen."

Rex laughed, once, the low, genuine version. "No objection. I was already thinking about it."
"I know," Lustia said. "I’m your patron goddess, so I am aware of most of what you’re thinking."
She leaned forward once more.
"Back to the question of the Subordinate Vessel," she said. "Are you really going to throw that away?"
"Yeah, yeah, fuck that shit," Rex said, shaking his head. "The new offer is more aligned with my interests."
"So... I just need to make them pregnant, huh? But what bothers is..." Rex then looked into her eyes. "Why didn’t all the won I was with get pregnant in the first place?"
