"Alright... it’s that fucking easy with the help of my new abilities."
"So... about my terms," Rex said, "the arrangent between the Nightwing and Starlight households regarding Diana Von Starlight and Theo Morr Nightwing."
"I want it formally withdrawn. I want the arrangent formally withdrawn in writing before the end of the week."
Everyone was shocked hearing that, and of course, it was also deserved. So of them saw Rex was always with Diana and Lily, so the rumors were already spread wide that he’s probably dating one of them, and it’s Diana.
However, there are also rumors that so people are aware Rex dated both of the Starlights, which is not a common practice in this world.
Therion nodded once, fully committed to the outco and the engagent that had led to it. "What you did today... I believe you deserve it."
"After everything my grandson has done to you... he should understand that every action has consequences he cannot change."
Theo’s expression at the end of the right seating wall resembled that of soone who had just witnessed a loss that felt profoundly significant.
"No... this can’t be... this is impossible..." Theo thought, his mind racing as he struggled to comprehend the reality before him.
The weight of the situation pressed heavily on his chest, each breath a reminder of the choices that had led them here. As he stared into the distance, doubt clouded his thoughts, and he couldn’t shake the feeling that everything he believed was about to crumble.
Elaris, observing the situation, let out a brief laugh before resting her cheek on her hand. "I can’t believe Rex Rexilion is not only a strong mage but also achieves all of this just through his studies."
[ELARIS MORR NIGHTWING — DESIRE LEVEL: 15 → 44/100]
Rex noticed the notification and realized that he was close to his first Nightwing to steal. And then his eyes were drawn to Theo’s pained expression, leaving him feeling helpless and reliant only on himself or his mother.
’What a fucking loser...’
’Maybe reconsider who you decided to punch next ti.’
...
The dinner that followed was reminiscent of a formal Nightwing household al, characterized by its careful preparation and a lack of unnecessary fuss, allowing everyone present to take their ti with their conversations.
At the dining room table, which had eight seats, only five people were present: Rex, Diana, Therion, Elaris, and Theo. Therion’s calm, clear voice, typically reserved for instructions that left no room for debate, had directed Rex to take a seat there.
"Where are the others?" Rex asked when the first course arrived.
"Aurelia is on assignnt outside the city," Elaris said. "She should be back within the week."
"Morwenna as well," Therion said. "The household head’s business runs longer than anticipated. She will return in approximately ten days."
"And Iris is also with Aurelia," Elaris added.
Rex absorbed all the information, updated his ntal map, and continued to eat.
As the conversation flowed through the first two courses, it mirrored the dynamics of formal family dinners, where the day’s events had already spoken volus, and the diners were left to ponder what else to discuss.
Therion and Rex discussed the engagent, focusing on the fact that two people had found each other to be better than they had thought and were processing that discovery with the interest it deserved.
Therion asked about the ice functioning at the dual-axis system’s integration node, expressing genuine curiosity as soone who wanted to understand the process, not to replicate it, but to accurately categorize it within his knowledge of what was possible.
Rex explained it without going into too much detail, which was the right amount of detail for people who were able to understand it without needing things to be easier.
Elaris watched this conversation with the sa look on her face that she had had all day. She made comnts that were accurate and sotis amusing, showing that she had been paying close attention to everything and had ford opinions about it all.
Diana sat next to Rex, embodying the determination of soone who had made a choice earlier in the day and was committed to it. When she noticed a small piece of food on his cheek, she began to wipe it off for him with a napkin.
Theo sat at the end of the table, wearing the expression of soone who would rather not be there. He observed the others, feeling conflicted about their pleasant conversation.
He also noticed when Diana wiped Rex’s cheek with the napkin, and it only made his heart feel even worse.
At the third course, Rex turned to look at Diana.
Diana noticed him starting, and she looked back at Rex.
He gave her the small nod that ant, ’Now, if you’re going to confess everything.’
She glanced at the table for a mont, adopting an accounting expression, and then turned to Theo with the look she used when she had made the decision to speak clearly.
"I want to say sothing," she announced, addressing the table with a tone that clearly indicated her intent was directed at Theo, while still being polite enough to include everyone present.
Theo looked at her as if he had anticipated this mont but still hadn’t figured out how to prepare for it.
"I’ve spent a long ti being careful about this," Diana said. "And, of course... by being fair."
"I am trying to account for all the history between our families, as well as the expectations and the ti involved."
She looked Theo in the eye.
"I’m done being careful about it," she said. "Because being careful about it has ant not being honest about it, and I think you deserve honesty more than you deserve care."
The table fell silent in the way that it does when soone utters words that cannot be retracted.
Rex struggled to suppress his laughter, eagerly anticipating this mont. It was music to his ears.
"You knew how I felt," Diana said. "For years..."
"And you chose not to act on it, which was your right, and I don’t hold the choice against you, but you also chose not to confess it, which was not your right, and I think you know that."
Theo’s fist was clenched tightly.
"You kept the possibility of ," she said, "without wanting the reality of ."
"And when soone ca along who wanted the reality, you decided the problem was him."
She shook her head.
"It wasn’t his fault at all," she said. "The problem was that you had spent years making sure I never stopped waiting, and you hadn’t thought about what would happen when I did."
Now, the silence had a certain feel to it, as if sothing had been said completely and had nowhere else to go.
Diana gave Rex a look.
"I love him," she said simply, and her tone lacked the performative quality that declarations usually have; instead, it conveyed the flat accuracy of a truth worth sharing with those who needed to hear it. "And I’m going to be with him."
"That’s my choice... I’ve officially made it, and I’m standing in it."
"I am also agreeing to his terms in the matter against Mr. Therion."
Therion turned to look at his wife.
Elaris looked at Rex with an expression that had been developing throughout the day, now intensified by the significant new information she had just received.
Theo’s face was the one Rex had been trying to get for weeks, with careful patience. It was the face of soone who had just heard their own story told directly by the person ant to live it, only to discover that this person had been living a completely different story all along.
The silence lasted exactly as long as it took Theo to push his chair back from the table.
The sound echoed off the floor. It wasn’t violent, but it was deliberate—a sound that signaled the arrival of sothing significant.
"Diana."
His voice ca out lower than usual, which was worse than if it had co out loud.
"I need you to explain that to ," he said. "Because I don’t think I understood it correctly."
Diana turned to look at him with the calm expression of soone who had prepared for this mont and was not going to be rushed out of it.
"I think you understood it fine," she said.
"Diana." The second call had more pressure in it. "For how long?"
"How long what?"
"How long has this been going on?" He gestured toward Rex with a stiff motion, as if he were trying to prevent his hand from moving in another direction. "With him."
"That’s not the conversation I was trying to have," Diana said.
"Well, it’s the conversation we’re having now," Theo said. "So answer ."
Rex picked up his cup and drank from it without comnt. He was watching the exchange with the expression of soone who had expected this and had no intention of intervening.
"A while," Diana said.
