A massive, vertical pillar of light and gore erupted into the sky, a geyser of black ichor and silver sparks that reached the very clouds. The force of the internal explosion sent a shockwave that leveled every remaining ruin in a five-mile radius, leaving the survivors to huddle in the dirt, blinded by the sheer majesty of the slaughter.

As the dust and the spray of blood began to settle, a heavy, ringing silence fell over the wasteland.

The Void Eater was gone. Not just dead, but erased.

There were no scraps of flesh to regenerate, no lingering essence to rebuild. There was only a massive, smoking crater of scorched earth and a fine mist of black rain falling from the sky.

In the center of the devastation stood Rex.

He was a god of the aftermath. A thick, drying layer of gore almost entirely obscured his tan skin, while his muscles rippled and stead in the cool air.

His golden aura pulsed slowly, a rhythmic heartbeat of pure dominance. He stood atop the massive, dissolving husk of what remained of the creature, a pile of cooling, obsidian slag that was all that was left of the EX Class nightmare.

Rex slowly raised both of his gauntlets toward the darkening sky. The tal groaned, still humming with the residual energy of the kill.

He stood there, chest heaving, a triumphant, predatory grin splitting his blood-stained face. He had not just survived the storm; he had broken the storm and made it his footstool.

"Is that all?" he bellowed, his voice echoing across the silent, broken world. "Is that the best the Underlayer can throw at ?!"

He stood as the undisputed king of the ruins, a titan of flesh and fury, looking down at the world he had just conquered.

...

Mordecai had shed every layer of his carefully curated personas. There was no diplomatic mask here, no royal poise, and certainly no trace of the man who had dared to command an army.

He stood in the center of the courtyard, dressed in the plain, utilitarian attire Pavellia had provided a version of himself stripped of title and artifice.

But beneath the clothing, he was shaking.

His breath ca in jagged, desperate hitches, his chest heaving as if he had just run a marathon through a nightmare. The resolution he had found was not one of courage but of pure, primal necessity.

He had been pushed to the edge of his own sanity, and now he faced the man who had just disassembled an EX Class summon with his bare hands. Mordecai’s eyes were wide, glazed with a terror so profound it had beco catatonic; he looked less like a king and more like a trapped animal waiting for the killing blow.

Behind him, Pavellia moved with a chilling, asured pace. She didn’t guide him; she rely trailed after him, her expression unreadable, her presence a cold reminder that the ti for debate had ended.

Rex stood atop the smoldering remains of the Void Eater, his body a map of cooling gore and golden light. He looked down at Mordecai, his expression devoid of rcy.

The silence of the courtyard was absolute, a suffocating pressure that weighed on the hundreds of survivors watching. They weren’t seeing a reconciliation between a king and his champion; they were seeing the mont the predator realized the prey was cornered.

Rex’s gaze was a physical weight. Slowly, almost languidly, he raised his arm and pointed a single, blood-streaked finger directly at Mordecai.

"You," Rex said, his voice a low, guttural, and terrifying rumble that vibrated in the bones of everyone present. "You’re dead."

The words weren’t a shout; they were a sentence.

Rex began to descend from the obsidian slag, his boots crunching into the blood-soaked dirt. He didn’t run; he walked with the steady, inevitable pace of an executioner.

Each step was a rhythmic tolling of a bell, the sound of impending doom.

Mordecai’s heart hamred against his ribs like a bird in a cage. The sight of Rex, covered in the ichor of a god, with eyes burning with a divine, murderous fire, was too much.

The terror that had been simring inside him boiled over.

He turned. With a choked, pathetic sob, Mordecai tried to bolt.

He threw himself into a panicked, desperate sprint, his feet slipping on the slick, gore-covered ground. He didn’t get far.

His own cowardice betrayed him; his legs gave out, and he collapsed forward, face-planting into the muck of his own broken army.

He scrambled to get up, clawing at the dirt, his breath coming in ragged, wheezing gasps. But as he tried to drag himself away, he looked up to see the golden silhouette of Rex looming over him, a shadow that blotted out the sky.

Mordecai froze, paralyzed, his body refusing to obey him as the man who had beco a god closed the distance.

"No... no... no!!!" Mordecai forces his whole body to move. "I don’t wanna die...!"

Mordecai scrambled backward again on his hands and knees, his fingernails tearing as they clawed through the sludge of black ichor and red blood. His breath was a series of high-pitched, pathetic whimpers.

"Pavellia! Pavellia, help ! Do sothing! Command him! Command him!" he shrieked, his voice cracking into a shrill, undignified soprano.

He reached out blindly behind him, his fingers grasping at the hem of her gown, his eyes darting wildly toward her as if she were a life raft in a sea of monsters. "He’s going to kill ! He’s not a man or a demon, but he’s a fucking MONSTER!"

"Pavellia, please!"

But Pavellia remained a statue of cold indifference, her gaze fixed on the spectacle before her.

Rex, anwhile, was completely unbothered by the king’s hysterics. To Rex, Mordecai’s terror was rely the background noise to his own triumph.

He stood just a few feet away, the sheer heat radiating from his body causing the blood on his skin to steam. With a casual, arrogant flick of his wrist, Rex activated his magic.

"Clean this filth off ," he muttered.

A brilliant, golden aura erupted from Rex’s skin. It wasn’t just a glow; it was a violent, scouring force.

The magic acted like a divine solvent, swirling around his muscular fra. The thick, clotted gore, the black sli of the Void Eater, and the dried crimson of his own wounds were stripped away in a sudden, pressurized burst, flying off his body like shrapnel.

As the magic reached his face, the light intensified. The golden mana began to coalesce around his head, forming a shimring, translucent mask of pure, concentrated energy.

The mask pulsed with a rhythmic, blinding intensity, a celestial visor that burned with the light of a thousand suns.

Mordecai, watching from the dirt, saw the light growing. It wasn’t just light; it was a physical weight, a crushing brightness that seed to pierce through his very eyelids.

"It’s too bright... it’s too much! Make it stop!" Mordecai wailed, his voice rising into a frantic, undignified screech.

He began to weep, his tears mixing with the filth on his face as he pressed his forehead against the unyielding, sharp heel of Pavellia’s boot, sobbing like a broken child. "Please, Pavellia! He’s glowing! He’s going to burn the world! HE’S GOING TO BURN !"

Rex took one more step. The golden mask on his face suddenly flared, the mana reaching a critical, unstable peak.

The light didn’t just shine; it scread with visual intensity, a blinding, supernova flash that turned the entire courtyard into a void of pure, white radiance.

"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Mordecai let out a long, piercing, high-pitched scream, a sound so undignified and weak it was less like a king and more like a cornered rat. He squeezed his eyes shut, curling into a fetal position in the muck, shielding his head with his arms as if he could hide from the sheer, overwhelming divinity of the man who had co to claim his life.

"I DON’T WANNA DIEEEEEE!!!"
