Jiang Yixin, who was sitting on the bed, was drawn by the little girl's voice and looked up towards the door.
She saw Du Qingyue standing outside the door, with a rare smile on her face.
Behind Du Qingyue, Xiao Feng was holding a gigantic cake that looked like a fairytale castle, dazzling in various colors.
"Did you really think I forgot your birthday today?" Du Qingyue laughed as she stepped inside.
The little girl raised her eyebrows: "See, I told you, Sister Qingyue definitely wouldn't forget your birthday."
Jiang Yixin covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes, but her face was full of smiles, perfectly embodying the phrase "tears of joy."
"Thank you!" Jiang Yixin stood up and gave Du Qingyue a big hug, then waved the little girl over.
Once the little girl got closer, Jiang Yixin freed one hand to bring her into the embrace as well, and the three of them hugged, unwilling to let go for a long while.
Xiao Feng couldn't hold back anymore: "Ahem, could you please consider my feelings?"
Only then did Jiang Yixin let go of the little girl and Du Qingyue, apologetically smiling.
"Do you rember this cake?" Du Qingyue asked.
"Yeah." Jiang Yixin nodded.
Back then, Jiang Yixin and Du Qingyue had just entered college, and that day happened to be Jiang Yixin's birthday.
They were walking down the street when they passed a cake shop. Jiang Yixin looked at the castle-thed cake in the display with envy and said, "If I could have a cake like that on my birthday soday, it would be amazing."
As ti went by, Jiang Yixin forgot about this, never expecting a casual remark to be rembered by Du Qingyue until now. This must be what true friendship is.
"Co on, let's light candles and make a wish." The naturally lively little girl started placing candles on the cake one by one, saying, "This cake shop is really stingy. Sister Jiang is already 80 years old, and these candles aren't nearly enough."
"You're the one who's 80 years old!" Jiang Yixin retorted, amused herself.
After placing the candles, the little girl began lighting them, leaving one unlit on purpose. Then, amidst the puzzled glances of others, she turned off the lights, chuckling: "Later, I'll light this last candle, and we'll make a wish together. No matter who makes the wish first, at least Sister Jiang's wish won't co true."
Xiao Feng found this both ridiculous and endearing as the little girl always managed to do things that seed childish but were heartwarming.
However, the little girl's earlier comnt did leave Xiao Feng with a question.
If age determines the number of candles, could an 80-year-old blow out all of them in one go?
The last candle was lit, and imdiately the little girl and Jiang Yixin rushed to make their wishes, even Du Qingyue surprisingly joined in, intertwining her fingers at her chest, eyes slightly closed, looking sincere.
After making their wishes, the three blew out the candles together. Jiang Yixin then cut the cake for everyone. Xiao Feng took a piece and walked outside because his phone had just vibrated in his pocket.
Checking his phone, he saw it was a call from Su Yuzhuo.
"Hello."
"There's sothing I've been thinking about a lot, and I feel it's better to tell you."
"As long as it's not about not repaying money, just say it."
"..." Su Yuzhuo was silent for a long ti before continuing, explaining that Iwakami Shigehiro had co to Jiangcheng and was already cooperating with Devil's Concentration Camp.
After hearing, Xiao Feng pondered, "Hearing you say this, it seems like you have so sort of special relationship with Iwakami Shigehiro?"
It's not about being curious; it's a simple reason. If Iwakami Shigehiro were irrelevant, Su Yuzhuo would have told him the news right away. The delay likely ant she was considering whether or not to tell him.
Su Yuzhuo frowned, as Iwakami Shigehiro implied a special relationship with Xiao Feng. Now Xiao Feng was saying the sa about her relationship with Shigehiro. She thought, I'm no socialite. How can my relationships be so complicated?
Despite her dissatisfaction, Su Yuzhuo still briefly recounted her childhood story with Iwakami Shigehiro in a plain and unadorned manner, sounding as flavorless as plain water.
Yet, even so, the words "childhood sweethearts" that she least wanted to hear ca out of Xiao Feng's mouth.
Fortunately, Xiao Feng didn't dwell on the topic, instead returning to the main point: "What is Iwakami Shigehiro's capability?"
"He was my father's most talented student. His sword technique is much better than mine, and his body technique is extrely fast." Su Yuzhuo spoke gravely, "As for his companions, I'm not sure about their capabilities, but they shouldn't be much less skilled than him."
"Are you telling this hoping I'll spare him?" Xiao Feng asked.
Su Yuzhuo subconsciously shook her head but rembered she was on the phone, so she said, "If possible, please don't kill him. I suppose this is a personal request."
In fact, Su Yuzhuo intended to deny it, but her words took a turn at the last minute, indicating she had so feelings for Iwakami Shigehiro.
Of course, these feelings weren't romantic but more of a subconscious nostalgia for an old childhood friend, even if Iwakami Shigehiro wasn't the boy who used to protect her and take the bla for her now.
"I understand." Xiao Feng said solemnly, then hung up the phone.
Elsewhere, Su Yuzhuo gripped her phone tightly, unsure if Xiao Feng would honor her request. She felt her plea was weak and even ridiculous.
Thinking hypothetically, if soone wanted to kill her and another person asked her to spare them, it would seem like a joke.
Thinking about it gave Su Yuzhuo a headache. She considered calling Xiao Feng to explain further but couldn't think of the right words, so she gave up.
Inside the room, the little girl had already downed two bottles of beer and was slightly tipsy.
She walked over to Jiang Yixin: "Sister Jiang, there's sothing I need to explain to you."
"What is it?" Jiang Yixin asked, curious yet tense, as she had been scamd by the little girl's endless pranks before, and even though things were fine now, she couldn't shake the shadow.
"Today, I tornted you all afternoon but never told you what was wrong with your attacks. Do you know why?" the little girl said seriously.
"Go ahead," Jiang Yixin replied, her expression turning solemn. Did this girl have a hidden reason?
Both Du Qingyue and Xiao Feng perked up, eager to hear the little girl's explanation.
Amidst the trio's anticipation, the little girl sighed: "Actually, it's not that I didn't tell you—it's that I have no idea what's wrong with your attacks. You hit , and I just retaliate—that's all."
"..." Xiao Feng.
"..." Du Qingyue.
"..." Jiang Yixin.
Was that really your explanation?
