"Hua Ling's family should have quite a bit of money." A little while after they walked, Xiao Feng suddenly said, looking at the bell in his hand.
The little girl asked in confusion, "Why do you say that, Brother Xiao Feng?"
"It's because of this bell, of course." Xiao Feng stopped walking, opened his hand, and asked, "Have you ever seen a bell like this?"
"Oh, right!" The little girl took the bell and looked at it closely, saying, "From the shape, it's no different from the bell around Doraemon's neck, but the appearance and feel seem like they're made of jade?
But that's not right either, a jade one shouldn't make such a crisp sound.
But Brother Xiao Feng, you said Hua Ling's family is rich; I don't think so. What if she embezzled public funds to buy it for herself?"
Xiao Feng shook his head, "She was wearing two bells on her feet when she was left outside the Anping Temple."
"Hmm?" The little girl's eyes suddenly sharpened, "How do you know that?"
"Hua Ling told herself," Xiao Feng replied.
The little girl persistently asked, "Why did she tell you that?"
"I asked her."
"Why did you ask about her background?"
Xiao Feng found it amusing, and with his fingers crossed, gave a light flick on the little girl's forehead, "Why so many questions today? Let's find your pet first."
The little girl rubbed her forehead, but in her heart, she thought that she must keep a close watch on Brother Xiao Feng in the future, lest he be bewitched by that little vixen Hua Ling!
They continued walking, stopping every thirty ters or so to shake the bell, and then moved on if nothing happened.
As for whether they could find it, that depended on luck.
...
On the other side, the duo of Lone Wolf and Lv Ziming was also diligently searching.
As they walked, they kept asking questions, smiling and offering cigarettes, but still had not made any headway.
Under the glaring sun, Lone Wolf looked at the ti and said, frustrated, "It's almost alti."
"Finding an animal is easier than finding a person, let's keep looking," Lv Ziming said, handing over a cigarette.
Lone Wolf took it and had just lit it when he saw seven or eight spirited young n walking toward them, each wagging their arms, with bags tucked under their arms, looking quite young.
The spirited young n noticed Lone Wolf and Lv Ziming as well.
The leader swaggered over and held out a pack of cigarettes to them, "Want to trade for so huazi, buddies?"
Lv Ziming chuckled, "Our smokes are more expensive than your whole pack of huazi."
"Are you bluffing?"
"Of course we're bluffing. You don't get taxed for bluffing."
"Co on, let's see what brand you're smoking?"
The spirited young n started coaxing.
In fact, what really drew them was Lone Wolf's scarred face.
To people their age, a man with a scar on his face was a seasoned big brother of the underworld, not that they'd get anything done, but just to have a word or two, they'd have bragging rights when drinking later.
However, they didn't expect these two to seem a bit dismissive.
The leader of the spirited young n beca a bit embarrassed, his tone changing as he asked, "So, who do you guys roll with?"
"Who do you roll with?" Lone Wolf retorted.
"Lv Ziming, ever heard of Lv Ye?" A young man with a tuft of dyed yellow hair said as he raised his chin, "Back in the day, hundreds of people cornered our leader in a dead-end alley, but our leader fought his way out seven tis."
He finished with a proud tilt of the eyebrow, full of self-satisfaction.
"Ha!" Lone Wolf burst out laughing.
Lv Ziming's expression was equally entertaining; hearing the early part, he thought maybe soone shared his na.
But upon hearing about hundreds of people, a dead-end alley, and fighting through seven tis, he knew they were talking about him.
Though it was a complint, it felt oddly strange.
"With all due respect, I know Lv Ziming myself, and even if he weren't already retired, he wouldn't have people like you under him," Lv Ziming said with a forced smile.
Honestly, the tone wasn't harsh; after all, they were flattering him, and it wouldn't do to lose face and start cursing.
Yet, upon hearing this, the spirited young n got agitated.
"How dare you insult us?"
"Damn it, do you have a death wish?"
"Get him!"
Within just a few exchanges, the spirited young n were ready to throw punches.
Lone Wolf stepped back and pushed Lv Ziming forward.
The implication was clear, they were after you, you deal with it.
"Sigh..."
Lv Ziming sighed, knowing reasoning with them was useless, that fists would be more convincing.
Once upon a ti, he had been their age too.
"Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!"
In less than half a minute, the spirited young n fell like dumplings to the ground.
This was because Lv Ziming had intentionally held back, or they would have fallen faster and suffered more injuries.
Unexpectedly, after being knocked down, the spirited young n were not afraid, but looked at Lv Ziming with enthusiasm.
"Whoa! A master, a true master!"
"Finally t a real master!"
"Uncle, we want to follow you!"
Hearing this, Lone Wolf blushed, his shoulders shaking as he struggled to hold in his laughter.
Lv Ziming ignored him, and solemnly asked, "Do you know who has the best info around here?"
"We know, we can take you there," the leader eagerly said.
"No need, just point the way, we can go ourselves," Lv Ziming declined.
He knew how troubleso these spirited young n could be, give them a little encouragent and they'd run wild.
If they stuck to him like glue, it would be quite troubleso.
After getting directions, Lv Ziming and Lone Wolf strode away.
The spirited young n watched their departing figures with reverence.
After a long while, the leader waved, "Let's go! Let's find Er Lai and the guys for a drink, and tell them what a real master is!"
With shoulders linked, they set off in the opposite direction, each with an excited expression.
Such youthful absurdity seems ridiculously amusing to older or more seasoned eyes.
But it's a phase everyone must go through, and once past, it never cos again.
At this mont, they feel invincible, their confidence bursting!
Yet, once they truly enter society and face obstacles, their confidence will be crushed.
The confidence rebuilt afterward will be true confidence!
