Now reading: Chapter 954 954: Gu Shi Makes a Move from The Magnificent Son-in-law, a Action novel by Rain sounds during the hours of midnight.

The identity of the murderer doesn't require much thinking, but there's another issue Xiao Feng has to consider.

That is, how did Lao Yang get targeted by Gu Shi?

Was it because I had a barbecue here, and Gu Shi just happened to see us, then discovered I had a good rapport with Lao Yang, so he kills to vent anger?

This issue clearly isn't sothing that can be concluded quickly.

Xiao Feng looked at Lao Yang's bloodless face, recalling a few hours ago when Lao Yang said his greatest hope was to live to see his son released from prison.

But that wish ultimately couldn't be fulfilled...

Wait!

Qin Mantong was also with at the barbecue. Could she also be Gu Shi's target?

"Send soone to Zhangliu Hotel imdiately, head out, go to the intersection and turn left, then turn right and walk about one mile!"

Xiao Feng suddenly stood up, his tone incredibly serious.

Everyone around was stunned, the policeman with the cara pushed the glasses on his nose and asked, "Who are you?"

"I'm Xiao Feng. You can call Shi Yong and tell him I said it." Xiao Feng quickly replied.

Outside the door, policen peeking in began speaking in whispers.

"I heard there was a very capable consultant nad Xiao Feng. Looks like it's him."

"So young, how capable can he be?"

anwhile, the policeman with the cara finished the call with Shi Yong, looked at Xiao Feng and said, "The chief says to do as you suggest."

The policen outside whispered in surprise, secretly wondering who Xiao Feng might be.

Inside the room, Xiao Feng nodded, reaching towards the pillow under Lao Yang's head.

"Wait!"

He halted the bespectacled policeman who was about to leave.

"What?"

"Where's the money under the pillow?"

At his words, all the policen present were stunned.

How did he know there was money under the pillow?

The bespectacled policeman scrutinized Xiao Feng again, asking the question everyone else was dying to know: "How did you know there was money under the pillow?"

"Because I put the money there." Xiao Feng replied indifferently.

Inside and outside, the place fell into dead silence.

A wave of disappointnt spread internally; they had hoped for an extraordinary deduction but ended up with just this answer.

Seeing their thoughts, Xiao Feng smiled and expressed a classic opinion: "Many seemingly complex things have simple truths hidden behind them, just like now."

Everyone's faces turned dark.

Such a statent might warrant applause if uttered after an exciting deduction, but saying it now felt awkward and uncomfortable.

Xiao Feng naturally didn't mind, looked again at the now deceased Lao Yang, and intently said, "Regardless of the reason, I will definitely avenge you!"

Upon his words, an older policeman in the room opened his mouth but said nothing.

Having worked as a policeman for most of his life and trained countless apprentices, he always sternly advised them not to speak unnecessarily at murder scenes. Even if speaking, avoid idle talk.

This was his personal taboo, one that Xiao Feng broke, making it impossible to stop him in ti.

...

Outside the police line, Xiao Feng dialed Qin Mantong.

After a few rings, the call connected.

"Xiao Feng, calling this late, what's the matter?" Qin Mantong's tone was as usual.

Xiao Feng got right to the point: "Are you still at the hotel?"

"Yes."

"Leave your room now, go to the front desk or another room to hide, and co out when I get there."

Hearing Xiao Feng's uneasy tone, Qin Mantong suddenly sat up from bed: "Am I in danger now?"

"Not sure, but better be careful." Xiao Feng replied.

"Okay, got it." Qin Mantong hung up, quickly getting dressed.

Exiting her room, Qin Mantong avoided the elevator and headed for the stairs.

Descending to the second floor, she encountered a spirited old man coming up.

If Xiao Feng were present, he'd recognize instantly that the old man coming up... was Gu Shi.

As they passed each other, Qin Mantong frowned slightly and ntally noted, "Such a strong sll of rust..."

The next mont, she paused abruptly, eyes wide.

No, not rust—it's... the sll of blood!

Realizing this, Qin Mantong hastily quickened her pace, but before she reached the next landing, a necktie was pulled tightly around her throat from behind.

"Gah..." Qin Mantong wore a look of pain and promptly stopped struggling, asking, "Who, who are you?

What do... you want?"

Gu Shi grinned, revealing a savage and terrifying smile: "I want to drain your blood."

Qin Mantong's body shivered, catching the nauseating sll of blood from behind her. She sohow felt he wasn't joking or trying to rely scare her.

Repeatedly, she told herself not to panic, not to rush.

These emotions wouldn't solve her predicant.

Yet, managing emotions is easier said than done.

Qin Mantong tried several thods—deep breathing, forced focus shifts—but they had little effect, her body trembled uncontrollably, legs feeling weak.

Various chaotic thoughts began occupying her mind.

Could the person behind her be sent by Xiao Feng to kill her?

But reconsidering, that seed incorrect.

If Xiao Feng sent soone, would he first give her a warning call?

Was the call intended to clear his own suspicion?

But based on her understanding of Xiao Feng, he likely wouldn't resort to such tricks.

Then Gu Shi behind her laughed again: "Don't rush, it's not ti yet. Although I'm impatient to taste your blood.

Before finding you, I just drained that old guy who dined with you. His blood was terribly foul and bitter.

You're tender-skinned, should taste much better."

"Lao Yang... is dead?" Qin Mantong asked in disbelief.

Soon she realized Xiao Feng likely inford her to hide because he'd learned of Lao Yang's murder.

Unluckily, the call ca too late; she ran into Gu Shi while descending.

But draining blood... is the person behind her a Vampire?

"You have a good relationship with Xiao Feng, right?" Gu Shi abruptly asked.

Qin Mantong trembled slightly, ruefully saying: "A few hours ago we did, now, hard to say."

"Don't play mysteries. Go back to your room now and call Xiao Feng, make him co alone to rescue you. If he doesn't..."

Gu Shi didn't finish the sentence, but Qin Mantong could imagine the rest.

Would Xiao Feng co to save her?

Although just on the phone, she knew Xiao Feng was heading her way, but whether he'd co alone to rescue her left her unsure.
