The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me? Chapter 453: Attending The King of Azmeria’s Banquet
"But why is their queen walking beside the king like that? Doesn’t she know any manners?"
Primrose slightly narrowed her eyes when she heard that voice and saw a group of nobles whispering among themselves. She chose to ignore them, knowing there was no use dealing with a bunch of fussy nobles.
But even as they stepped into the grand palace of Azria, those kinds of words kept reaching Primrose’s ears, this ti through their thoughts.
Fortunately, she had asked Salem to increase the dose of her dicine, or her head would surely be throbbing right now from hearing so many people at once.
[So shaless! How can a queen walk right next to the king like that?!]
[So Duke Lazarus failed to raise his daughter properly after all!]
[Why is she dressed so beautifully? She already has a husband. She shouldn’t dress like that!]
Alright, Primrose could ignore most of those comnts, but that last one almost made her lose her patience.
It wasn’t her fault that she was born with a beautiful face!
Besides, her makeup was no different from what queens usually wore when attending a formal banquet like this. She only looked more radiant because she was simply that beautiful.
Still, the biggest problem for them wasn’t her face or her dress. It was the fact that she was walking beside Edmund, the King of Noctvaris.
Sadly, they weren’t talking about this without reason.
In the Vellmoria Empire, there was a written rule: noblewon must always walk behind their husbands at formal events. It was ant to show their obedience to the man of the family.
For ordinary nobles, that rule wasn’t very strict. But when it ca to the Emperor and the Kings, it was treated like an absolute law. In fact, it was the very first rule taught to a woman the mont she married into royalty.
Primrose had even heard that a queen from one of the kingdoms within Vellmoria was once punished because she walked beside her husband when attending the Emperor’s banquet.
Her husband then punished her by giving her twenty lashes.
Every ti Primrose and her friends rembered that, they would imdiately shudder.
It was such a ridiculous rule! And even if it truly had to be enforced, at the very least they didn’t need to give such a harsh punishnt to a woman who broke it unintentionally!
These n truly made Primrose feel sick to her stomach. Rather than being a symbol of obedience to one’s husband, it was more like a dirty trick to control their wives, which was completely stupid.
Just as her anger began to rise, a cheerful voice suddenly broke through her thoughts.
"Oh, Primrose! I’m so glad you’re here!" Bianca, the Queen of Azria, greeted her warmly the mont Primrose stepped into the ballroom.
Primrose was smiling, but deep inside, she felt a little confused. She didn’t understand why Bianca didn’t use her formal title at such a formal event like this.
Sure, Bianca was the host, but Primrose was still the honorary guest of this kingdom right now, so she shouldn’t be addressed so casually in front of the nobles.
However, since Primrose wasn’t the type of person who thought too much about such things, she simply shrugged it off.
"Bianca! It’s good to see you too!" Primrose replied cheerfully, calling her na the sa way Bianca had called hers earlier.
But to her surprise, the Queen of Azria imdiately changed her expression into one of displeasure.
[Why is she calling without my title? Where are her manners?!] Bianca thought.
[Is this because I called her na earlier? But that was normal, wasn’t it? I’m the Queen of Azria now. My title is higher than hers.]
Primrose quietly tightened her jaw when she heard Bianca’s thoughts. It seed her old friend had forgotten that Primrose’s status was just as honorable as hers.
Was it because Primrose wasn’t the queen of a human kingdom? But what difference did that make? The beastlands were even greater than most human territories.
"Oh, please, you need to use my formal title here," Bianca leaned closer and whispered. Her voice was soft, but her sharp eyes were fixed on Primrose. "You’ll make look ridiculous if you call my na like that."
"Of course, Your Majesty." Primrose smiled until her eyes curved into crescents. "But shouldn’t you do the sa? Don’t call my na unless we’re talking in private."
Primrose wouldn’t have made a fuss over sothing like this if Bianca hadn’t been the one to throw wood into the fire.
If soone burned her first, why should Primrose reply with cold water?
"Is that really the King of Beasts?" Primrose faintly heard whispers again from the nobles inside the ballroom.
"He doesn’t look scary at all."
"Don’t be fooled! He probably beats his wife behind closed doors."
"But he lets her walk beside him, doesn’t he?"
"Maybe Lady Primrose is walking like that to rebel. You know her. She always causes trouble around n."
Who the hell was making trouble around n?! She only treated n like trash if they disturbed her first or tried to look down on her!
"Oh, she’ll probably be punished after this."
If she was going to be punished by that cold, handso lycan king, she would probably enjoy it.
"It is an honor to see you, Your Majesty."
The King of Azria—Averon—stepped out from the group of nobles and walked toward Edmund. He flashed a charming smile and even offered his hand to Edmund. "I honestly didn’t expect you to co to my humble banquet."
After months of practicing how to smile, Edmund finally managed to form a small one. It wasn’t as bright as Averon’s, but it was far better than his old, creepy smile.
"There was no reason for to refuse your invitation, Your Majesty," Edmund said as he returned the handshake. "Besides, our queens are good friends. So it is my honor to visit my wife’s friend’s ho."
[This beast is really sothing else...] Averon thought.
[Why does he look so gentle? I worked hard to send Lady Primrose to the beastlands so she would suffer. Then what is this? Why does she look so happy now?]
