"Damn it! I even kept his gift hanging in my office this whole ti!"

Primrose hissed softly when she realized that the phoenix painting that had always hung in her father’s office was actually a gift from the Duke of Obsidia, from the Kingdom of Nerathis.

She had praised that painting so many tis, and now that she rembered all this, Primrose wanted nothing more than to throw up.

"Father, you need to calm down," Edmund said gently, speaking to him like he was a child. "If you keep getting angry like this, you might get a heart attack. I heard that’s a serious illness for humans."

Instead of calming down, Lazarus beca even more upset. "What?! Why are you suddenly bragging about your perfect health?! Yes, humans are weak!"

Primrose pinched the bridge of her nose. Her father must be so angry that he even thought Edmund was making fun of him.

"Father, don’t yell at my husband," Primrose reminded him. "He didn’t insult you at all. Calm down now, or I’ll ban you from eating delicious food for a week!"

"Don’t you dar—" Lazarus started to shout and even lifted his hand as if he wanted to point at her, but he stopped himself right away. He straightened his back and lowered his hand. "No, I won’t yell again. I’m sorry."

That was just how her father was. Lazarus and Primrose argued almost every day. Sotis they raised their voices or teased each other. But when he was truly angry—not joking, not acting playful, but really upset—he would never yell at his daughter. He didn’t even dare raise his voice.

So of his friends thought it was ridiculous, since they would never hesitate to yell at their children when they were angry.

But Lazarus would always say, "My wife gave her life to bring our daughter into this world. I won’t ruin sothing as precious as the part of my wife that remains."

Of course, sotis he still lost control and raised his voice. But afterward, he would always apologize, or like now, he would desperately try to calm himself.

"Oh, Father..." Primrose’s gaze softened. "You didn’t know anything about the Duke of Obsidia, so it wasn’t your fault for liking the painting so much. Besides, I have to admit the painting really is magnificent."

Lazarus took several deep breaths before finally speaking again. "You’re right. This is just a mistake."

"Yes. You didn’t do anything wrong," Primrose said gently. "You simply didn’t know. But... if you still feel guilty, you can make it up to us by letting us use your dungeon."

This ti, Lazarus struggled even harder to hold back the anger boiling inside him. But when he could no longer contain it, he turned his whole body toward Edmund instead of his daughter.

"How could you only ask for permission now, when you’ve already brought that abominable man into my dungeon!"

"I’ve never even used it to torture people!!" Lazarus shouted again at Edmund, almost as if he wanted to throw him out of the room with just his voice. "I don’t want my dungeon stained with blood!"

The truth was, Lazarus almost never used the dungeon under the manor. Maybe only twice or three tis, and only as a temporary prison when soone committed embezzlent or serious violence.

"Father, Father, there won’t be any blood," Primrose said quickly, stepping between Edmund and Lazarus so her father would stop yelling. "We only brought him there because we need a secret place to talk to him. We won’t kill him... probably."

"And please, for heaven’s sake, stop yelling before the entire manor hears us!" she warned.

A mont later, Edmund spoke into her mind. [Don’t worry, wife. I’ve already covered the door and walls with magic.]

Primrose let out a quiet sigh, feeling a little more at ease now that, at the very least, they could keep this secret for a bit longer.

"Alright, alright, I won’t yell anymore." But then Lazarus clicked his tongue in annoyance. "But he’s a noble, and not just any noble, a duke! Garrick Obsidia is a Duke!"

[These kids! They’ve brought disaster right to my doorstep! Now the King of Azria and the King of Nerathis will do everything they can to find that abominable man!]

[Argh, my heart! I’m going to have a heart attack at this rate!] Lazarus groaned dramatically in his mind. [And what if they co after Rosie because of this? I won’t allow it! I’ll protect my daughter and my grandchild with everything I have!]

And what about his son-in-law? He didn’t even ntion Edmund in his thoughts.

"Father, no one will find him here," Primrose said. "My husband is a ticulous man, and he made sure that capturing the Duke of Obsidia looked completely natural."

Last night, while the banquet was still going on, the Duke of Obsidia—already completely drunk—decided to go out to the back garden to get so fresh air. But instead, he was quietly taken away in the dark.

He didn’t even have ti to scream before one of Edmund’s soldiers knocked him unconscious with almost no sound. After that, they left a note in his guest room saying he had urgent business and needed to return to the Kingdom of Nerathis right away.

"The trip from the Kingdom of Azria to the Kingdom of Nerathis takes at least three days by carriage, so we have three days before anyone realizes he’s missing," Primrose said.

Lazarus frowned. "Yes, that may be true, but what about his guards and servants who traveled here with him?"

Primrose pressed her lips together, then glanced at Edmund from the corner of her eye.

A mont later, Edmund replied, "We kidnapped them as well."

At that mont, Lazarus nearly had a heart attack, but thankfully, his brain forced his heart to keep pumping long enough for him to scream, "YOU WHAT?!!"

Lazarus clutched his chest, his eyes wide with disbelief. "You kidnapped all of them?! Guards, servants, everyone?!"

Edmund nodded calmly, as if he were talking about sothing completely ordinary. "Of course. If only the duke disappeared, people would get suspicious. But if all of them are gone, everyone will simply think they returned ho together."

Primrose gave her father a reassuring smile. "See? My husband already thought everything through."
