The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me? Chapter 511: A Queen’s Offer of Freedom (I)
"That way, you can keep your hands exactly where they are."
[W-what? What the hell is happening?] the soldier asked himself. [Why do I suddenly feel scared of her? She even looks so harmless!]
[This is ridiculous! My hands are actually trembling just because I heard her stupid threat.]
Primrose hadn’t even used her mind-control ability when she said that, but it seed that her words alone were already enough to scare them away.
She didn’t even know why.
"U-Understood, Your Majesty," one of the soldiers finally said. He no longer tried to argue with Primrose and imdiately stepped away from the balcony. His colleague and the maids quickly followed after him.
Primrose then turned to Solene and Callen. "You two should go as well," she said calmly. "I’ll shout if sothing bad happens to ."
Callen and Solene looked at each other for a mont before finally nodding. Without another word, they left the balcony, leaving Primrose alone with Bianca.
Bianca frowned in confusion. "Why do they follow your orders so easily?" she asked. "They never listen to if my request goes against my husband’s orders."
Primrose simply shrugged. "They’re afraid of my husband," she said. "He’s scary, and sotis I borrow that scary reputation to frighten other people."
Scary?
Primrose didn’t think her husband looked scary at all, at least not now, especially after she had learned his true self. But other people didn’t know that.
The only thing they knew was that the King of Beasts loved to kill people for fun.
"Now that we’re alone here, do you want to tell the truth?" Primrose asked Bianca once more.
"About what?"
Primrose pulled her coat closer as the cold wind passed through her. "About the question I asked earlier." She deepened her gaze at Bianca and asked, "Aren’t you tired of being a decoration for your husband? I don’t even think he treats you that well."
Unlike before, instead of staying silent, Bianca imdiately burst out laughing. "Oh, Rosie, you must be joking when you ask that, right?"
Primrose remained silent in response, a sign that she was completely serious.
Bianca realized that as well, so she stopped laughing and said, "Doesn’t that question apply to you too? Your husband is only using you for his act so that humans will trust the beasts."
"He isn’t acting," Primrose said honestly. "The way he behaved at the banquet was his real self and the way he acts now is the act."
Bianca furrowed her brows. "Do you think I would believe that?"
[Does she think I’m stupid?] Bianca thought. [Who would pretend to be a bad person? If anything, the Lycan King looks more like soone who would pretend to be kind.]
"Well, I won’t lose anything if you don’t believe ," Primrose said calmly. "But sotis, you need to look at soone with your heart, not with eyes that are already full of prejudice."
"In your opinion, which personality suits my husband more?" Primrose asked. "But rember, you have to look at him with your heart."
Bianca was about to say sothing but closed her mouth again because she realized it was difficult to decide which side of Edmund was real.
[He’s a beast... so normally, his cold and cruel nature would suit him better, but...]
She lowered her gaze as she thought carefully.
[When he treated Primrose gently at the banquet... that side also suited him.]
[Actually... the eyes I saw at the banquet looked brighter and more honest than the ones I saw today.]
Just as Primrose had believed all this ti, the eyes are the windows to a person’s soul.
Edmund might be able to act well, but his true self would never be able to escape from him. At the end of the day, people who look at him with their hearts will also realize that he holds a very deep love for Primrose.
"If that’s the case, then why did you tell this?" Bianca asked. "If he is acting in front of my husband, doesn’t that an you have your own agenda? So why would you tell this?"
"Because whether I tell you this or not, it won’t make any difference," Primrose said. "There’s no one else here except you, and... I can also do sothing to make you forget."
Bianca frowned. "Did you just threaten ?"
"No," Primrose said quickly. "I actually want to offer you sothing."
Bianca didn’t say anything, so Primrose continued, "I know you live like a bird in a cage here, so I want to offer you sothing that might help you feel more alive."
"Listen, I don’t like you that much, Bianca. I admit that." She softened her gaze as she spoke. "But I know your story, and in the na of our old friendship, I can give you a second chance to have a better life."
Bianca stared at her for a long mont.
The wind on the balcony grew colder, making the loose strands of her hair sway gently. For a few seconds, she didn’t say anything, as if she was trying to understand whether Primrose was being serious or simply mocking her.
"A second chance?" Bianca finally repeated. "And what exactly do you an by that?"
Primrose tapped her fingers against the table. "You’re not stupid, Bianca," she said calmly. "You know very well that this palace is nothing more than a golden cage for you."
Bianca’s eyes darkened slightly.
Primrose continued, "You follow every order your husband gives. You don’t question him. You don’t even know what’s inside half the rooms in your own ho."
"For soone who is supposed to be the queen here," Primrose added, "you have very little freedom."
Bianca let out a short, cold laugh. "And you think you understand my life?" she said. "You ca here for a few days, Rosie. Don’t pretend you suddenly know everything."
Primrose didn’t look offended. Instead, she turned to face Bianca again. "You’re right," she admitted. "I don’t know everything."
Then her voice softened. "But I know what it feels like to live in a place where you can’t even breathe freely."
Bianca froze for a brief mont. Primrose looked directly into her eyes. "So I’m giving you a choice," she said quietly.
"A choice?" Bianca repeated.
"Yes."
Primrose folded her arms calmly. "You can continue living like this. Smiling when people are watching. Obeying your husband. Pretending everything is fine."
Her gaze beca sharper. "Or... I can help you leave this place. Of course, I can also provide a huge amount of money for you to start a new life sowhere else, maybe in... Elandria? What do you think?"
The more Bianca listened to Primrose’s words, the more confused she felt. "Your Majesty, I know that nothing can be achieved without sacrificing sothing," Bianca said, her tone becoming more formal. "Tell , what do you want?"
"Your husband," Primrose stated without even blinking.
Bianca held her breath and frowned. [What the hell is wrong with this woman?! She knows that Averon has always treated badly in this palace, yet she wants to steal him away from ?!]
"Oh, don’t get wrong." Primrose waved her hand casually. "I don’t like your husband. What I an is... I want to see your husband fall."
"What?"
""I know your husband never lets you know about all of his business," Primrose said. "But co on, Bianca. I also know you’re the type of person who likes to poke your nose into other people’s affairs."
She tilted her head slightly. "You’re the queen of gossip, and everyone in your circle knows it. So that’s why... I believe you must have noticed sothing strange around those secret rooms. Maybe by accident or maybe on purpose."
"My husband has never allowed to enter those rooms," Bianca said.
Primrose let out a harsh sigh. "I know that," she said. "But I also know those rooms are opened from ti to ti by other people. I an... even the doorknobs don’t have any dust on them."
She looked straight at Bianca. "So tell , Bianca. What did you see around those rooms? If you decide to tell everything, I will help you escape from this cage."
Primrose didn’t like Bianca at all—especially after hearing all the ugly thoughts Bianca once had about her and Rowena.
However, she also understood that Bianca had beco this way because of the people around her.
People who grow up in a cruel environnt and never feel unconditional love often don’t know how to love properly and they don’t know how to trust kindness either.
Soone who has never experienced that kind of love can never behave the sa way as soone who has, even if that love only lasted for a short mont.
At the very least, Bianca only thought badly about people in her mind, but she had never hurt anyone in real life. If anything, she was the one who had been abused in real life, especially by her father, or most likely by her own husband.
"I know you an well, Rosie," Bianca said. "But unfortunately, I cannot be saved anymore."
