Chapter 109
The Right Person in the Right Place (5)
I thought the operation using the Earth Dragon was fairly creative, but I heard the Alliance Army had already used it before.
Even when they said it would be difficult because there were many traps prepared for it, I still intended to push forward. It wasn’t like we would die; we just had to accept getting hurt a little.
“Move.”
Thus, hiding inside the Earth Dragon’s mouth, we infiltrated the enemy headquarters in one go. At the sa ti I pulled out the Lightning Spike and prepared for battle, Winter opened the Gate of Valhalla.
Led by Soloven, allied troops poured out through the portal, shouting loudly as they drew their weapons.
―Kiiiing.
I imdiately threw the Lightning Spike toward where the Fiendbeast was located. The massive lightning greedily devoured the surroundings without distinguishing friend from foe.
Anything struck directly was charred black or lted away, and even those caught in the aftermath were left in terrible shape. A path leading straight to the Fiendbeast was created.
“Protect Winter.”
Winter, who had to continuously maintain the Gate of Valhalla, could not move separately. So I entrusted her protection to the assassin who served as Rama’s hands and feet.
The assassin rely wore an indifferent expression. I shook my head and headed toward the Fiendbeast together with Aro.
“We could get surrounded.”
“It’s fine.”
Aro, who was following behind , spoke briefly. In a normal situation, an infiltration like this would actually have been dangerous.
But we had the powerful force called Soloven, and above all, the situation outside was no joke either.
―Boom! Boom! Boom!
The giant crystal endlessly battering the barrier was already producing trendous results.
It was serving to tie down the Magus mage who was clearly responsible for creating the barrier. Before long, they would break through it no matter what.
“Shouldn’t we have brought Whitey too?”
“I may not look it, but I’m still a priest. The more people there are, the more useful I beco.”
The blessing Winter used only slightly enhanced physical abilities. But if more than a hundred people received that effect, it could no longer be ignored.
After that, Aro did not say anything else. She floated several talismans around herself while preparing for the upcoming battle.
“There should be soldiers guarding it.”
“We force our way through?”
“No. I’ll deal with all of them.”
We could ignore them and head straight for the Fiendbeast, but the soldiers guarding it were unlikely to be easy opponents.
If it ca to that, we would have to fight the Fiendbeast in front of us and soldiers behind us. Without Worden, who excelled in battles of attrition, that would be sowhat difficult.
―Chzzzt.
I struck my chest twice and activated the Lightning Armor. Feeling the current for the first ti in a while, the corners of my mouth curled upward.
“Enemy! Stop them!”
As expected, there were nurous troops guarding the Fiendbeast. They had clearly either been struck by the Lightning Spike or caught in its aftermath, yet there were still many soldiers left.
One soldier wearing a peculiar hat discovered us and shouted out an order.
“Manpasik.”
After confirming the soldiers had ford ranks, Aro recited the Activation Word. Following her graceful hand movents, a massive wave burst outward around her.
Manpasik, the Sorcery Aro used most frequently, was a technique that reduced the accuracy of targets struck by the wave infused with her magic power.
“Hm.”
Naturally, I too was struck by Manpasik since I was within its range. The wave that shook my vision made stagger briefly, but I quickly recovered.
The principle behind Manpasik was to disrupt the biological magic power within the body and induce confusion. But thanks to my Adaptive Body, I possessed no biological magic power.
“Kraaaagh!”
I swung my club toward a soldier who had been hit by Manpasik and failed to regain his senses.
The weapon, resembling a goblin club, turned the enemy soldier into a bloody ss along with his armor in a single strike.
“One more ti!”
We swept through the soldiers blocking our path like a raging tide. Beating down the visibly slowed soldiers was effortless.
The more skilled soldiers were beginning to regain control of themselves. Noticing this, Aro gathered magic power and used Manpasik once again.
‘The compatibility is good.’
Those caught in Aro’s Manpasik staggered greatly once more, and I, who recovered faster than anyone else, plunged deeply into their ranks.
Originally, Manpasik had not been considered a very good skill in the ga. The primary enemies, the Magus, consisted mostly of mages.
And against mages capable of controlling their own magic power to so extent, Manpasik’s effect was minimal.
“We’re almost there!”
Aro, who was observing the fight from behind, shouted loudly. Hearing that, I activated rcury.
rcury embedded in the Astral Gauntlet emitted light and released a vicious chill.
“Hoo.”
I shifted the club into my left hand and activated Blood Magic in my right hand, the one wearing the gauntlet.
The mont a sword ford from blood took shape, it froze solid from rcury’s power. Wielding the blade whose sharpness and durability had greatly increased, I steadily reduced the number of soldiers.
‘The damage is better than I expected.’
I occasionally glanced at Aro. In the ga, she had only been used as a debuffer character, but her offensive power was not bad either.
The freely flying talismans shot in from various directions and attached themselves to the soldiers. They stuck to faces, eyes, and ears before causing small explosions.
“We’ll head there imdiately!”
With the talismans’ assistance accelerating our speed, we swept through the soldiers and headed toward where the Fiendbeast was located.
“……That thing is even uglier than I expected.”
We confronted the Fiendbeast in a massive open area. Looking at the Fiendbeast with its tentacles embedded into the desert’s scorching sand, Aro frowned.
“It looks pretty strong.”
“It’s nothing special.”
A gigantic hexagonal pillar and six spider-like legs attached near the base of the pillar. Only then did the Fiendbeast notice the abnormality and open its eye.
Looking at the massive single eye in the center, I spat out the saliva gathered in my mouth. Just looking at its hideous skin naturally made nausea rise within .
“What about Manpasik?”
“It’s fine. It won’t work on that thing anyway.”
“Hm. Got it.”
Aro recklessly pulled out the talismans she had been saving. Countless red talismans floating through the air created a spectacular sight.
“My firepower isn’t very good.”
“I know.”
I had already heard about Aro’s abilities beforehand. The offensive power of Aro’s Sorcery could not inflict aningful damage on the Fiendbeast.
“Show .”
But unlike the Aro from the ga, the current Aro was different. A Sorcery only Aro could use. A technique of soone who possessed Divine Power despite wielding magic power.
At my words, Aro quietly closed her eyes. At that mont, the Fiendbeast also began to move.
“It’s disgustingly revolting.”
Two of the legs supporting its massive body moved. Watching them aim toward us, I narrowed my eyes.
Setting aside its repulsive appearance, those tough and sturdy spike-like legs were clearly threatening.
‘The speed…’
I charged in first. I intended to fight ahead while Aro prepared the ti-consuming technique.
The Fiendbeast detected my movent and thrust out its leg. Its speed was fast and its size enormous, giving it a wide attack range, but it was not impossible to dodge.
“What is that stench?!”
Quickly diving beneath its body, I discarded the sword and gripped the club with both hands instead. The powerful stench that suddenly struck my nose nearly made stagger.
Gritting my teeth, I swung the club toward one of the legs supporting its body. The club imbued with cold and lightning smashed into the leg.
―Kieeek!
Even though the Fiendbeast possessed extrely high elental resistance by default, it could not completely ignore the damage caused by lightning.
The Fiendbeast scread after feeling intense pain from the current surging through its leg.
The force contained in the club was trendous as well, causing one of the supporting legs to bounce away. The Fiendbeast staggered greatly in response.
“It really is tough.”
It was far weaker than the Fiendbeast at the Academy. But it was tougher than that one. The leg I struck did not even show a small wound.
Imdiately climbing onto the Fiendbeast’s body, I headed toward what I assud was its head. If I rembered correctly, the organ storing the essence was there.
Realizing that, the Fiendbeast began thrashing violently.
“Nice.”
Before I could be thrown off by the stronger-than-expected struggle, Aro’s talismans flew in. Nurous talismans attached themselves to the Fiendbeast’s legs.
Perhaps because of Anaye’s Divine Power, fierce electric currents crackled from the talismans. Taking advantage of its significantly weakened movent, I quickly climbed toward its head.
“I don’t know if this is really its head though.”
Its appearance was so far beyond common sense that I could not identify its exact body parts, but it did not matter. Blunt weapons could not inflict much damage against sothing with such tough skin.
If it had at least been solid tal, it would have been much easier. I activated the newly obtained Chill of Paillet.
‘It’s not invincible.’
Just because it had resistance did not an it was completely invincible. As I activated the skill, white frost ford over the gauntlet and even the fingertips of my right hand began to lose sensation.
The sa applied to the Fiendbeast. Clenching my fist, I slamd it directly into the Fiendbeast’s head.
―Kkiiiiiiaaaaah!
The Fiendbeast let out a scream close to a shriek from the agony of freezing solid in an instant. Startled, Aro hurriedly covered her ears.
It was a ghostly wail severe enough to give goosebumps. But it did not last long. The dreadful chill pouring out from the gauntlet beca a pillar of white and swallowed the Fiendbeast whole.
“Wow.”
The sight resembled a pure white pillar of lightning falling from the sky, causing Aro to tightly shut her eyes.
When the white pillar disappeared, all that remained was the Fiendbeast frozen completely white. Aro looked at it in admiration. Tiny sparks crackled around it.
“Hup!”
I shook my body once to brush off the frost and brought the club down with all my strength. Because of the hardened skin, the recoil was even greater, but it also inflicted aningful damage.
After confirming cracks forming where I struck, I enthusiastically continued smashing the club down.
―Boom! Boom! Boom!
With every strike, the height of the creature began to lower. The assault that resembled shattering ice only stopped after half of its head had been crushed apart.
“Done?”
“Yes.”
Only after finishing did I leap down from the Fiendbeast’s body and head toward Aro. The Fiendbeast had beco a complete wreck without even being able to properly resist.
“It was less impressive than I expected.”
“That’s because it’s not a combat type.”
Aro spoke as though it had been sowhat anticlimactic. I shook my head. It may have felt easy, but it was not weak enough to be dismissed outright.
It had only been manageable because Aro and I specialized in crowd control. Ordinary soldiers without such abilities would have struggled greatly.
“How’s your body?”
“It’s creaking. I don’t think this is sothing I can spam.”
At Aro’s concern, I answered honestly. A chilling cold powerful enough to freeze a Fiendbeast possessing every elental resistance in a single blow.
Since it did not distinguish friend from foe, even I was affected by the freezing cold, making click my tongue. There was no actual damage, but I could feel my physical abilities being reduced.
My recovery speed was fast, but it still bothered a little.
“Well, would you look at that?”
“Wow. That thing survived after taking all that?”
At the sudden vibration, all of us let out hollow laughs. The Fiendbeast, frozen and electrocuted, sohow rose again in the end.
At its tenacious vitality, Aro shook her head.
“Looks like it’s angry?”
“Well, we did crush its head.”
The Fiendbeast, having finally regained its senses, began rampaging in fury. It even started retracting the tentacles that had been consuming the essence.
The legs that had remained still until now finally moved and began approaching us.
“It’s ridiculously slow.”
“That’s because it isn’t a combat type. Let’s finish this already.”
“Shall we?”
Watching its movent speed beco even slower due to the freezing, Aro let out a dumbfounded laugh. At my suggestion to finish it, Aro nodded and clapped her hands.
Countless talismans attached themselves to the Fiendbeast. Soon, the writing on the talismans began glowing brightly. Then they exploded all at once.
“Can you use lightning attributes?”
“No. I use wind. The lightning just naturally forms when I combine it with Divine Power.”
The explosions erupted together with countless bolts of lightning. It was an explosion reminiscent of Candela. However, its firepower was much weaker than Candela’s.
Aro calmly answered my question. Then she ford a mischievous smile.
“Now then, this is a Sorcery I developed myself!”
As she said that, Aro perford a bizarre hand motion. The massive lightning explosion that had been spreading suddenly began taking shape.
Seeing a phenonon similar to the Lightning Spike, I widened my eyes and watched closely.
“……A fox?”
The lightning explosion gradually ford into the shape of foxes. The countless foxes howled toward the sky before exploding.
“Haha! It’s art!”
Aro suddenly burst into hearty laughter. The fox bombs moved all over the place, sotis exploding in unexpected locations.
I could tell it would be quite useful, but the disappointing part was still the firepower. Even amidst all those explosions, the Fiendbeast did not fall.
“How is it so durable?”
“I told you already.”
Instead of the displeased-looking Aro staring at the still-standing Fiendbeast, I stepped forward. I snapped my fingers.
The Candela I had embedded while crushing the Fiendbeast’s head began exploding in response to my signal.
“…….”
“…….”
An intense heat incomparable to Aro’s fox bombs burst forth.
The inside of the Fiendbeast, which had been slowly approaching us, swelled up before its massive body finally collapsed. I turned toward Aro with an irritating grin.
“This… is ‘art,’ Senior.”
At my words, Aro’s eyes flipped with rage and she bared her teeth as she lunged at . Of course, she never managed to touch .
