Chapter 35

Granvi had recently begun to distrust the academic affairs office.
The academic affairs office, which handled the administration of Museion Academy, was known for its excellent service. Its policies regarding schedules, scholarships, and campus facility support funds were all student-friendly.
It was part of a truly genuine educational institution that spared no investnt for its students. That was why so many students trusted and followed the decisions of the academic affairs office.
But this ti was an exception.
“……This can’t be happening!”
Two notices had co down from the academic affairs office. One expressed deep regret over the recent attack.
The compensation was certain, and since no one had been seriously injured, that part was fine. The problem was the second one.
“Is this for real?”
“Exactly. Why are the top students getting derit points?”
Rescue and subjugation. The office’s statent said that while rescue was understandable and could even be taken into consideration, subjugation was absolutely unacceptable.
Along with that, it declared that all the top students who had led each year would be given derit points and disciplinary action.
Many students were shaken by this, but they could still understand it to so degree.
But it was what followed that left them with no choice but to be furious.
“They’re lifting Davide’s suspension?”
“What!? Does that even make sense? After what that bastard did!”
Davide. Trash that would go down in Academy history. That bastard was a beast. If sothing didn’t please him, he turned violent and had no regard whatsoever for basic human rights.
Countless commoners had been hurt by his words, and there were not a few students who had suffered direct damage.
Not long ago, he had even committed a major incident by stabbing a classmate with a knife! It was a wonder he hadn’t been expelled.
“Ha! Did he bribe the academic affairs office or sothing?”
“Damn it. I thought he’d been quiet for a reason! Was all of this for that!?”
That was why the students were furious. That infamous Davide was clearly a villain. He wasn’t just so greedy, opportunistic third-rate thug.
When it ca to those who could harm him, he avoided direct confrontation as much as possible and sought out only those he could bully.
There was no difference between that and a beast hunting prey. Hunting for survival would have been one thing. But the actions and words of this wicked beast tore apart weaker prey simply out of boredom.
They felt the irrationality in the academic affairs office so quickly retracting the punishnt handed down to such a villain.
And there was a group burning even hotter than the rest.
“This makes no sense.”
“That piece of trash. I feel stupid for being satisfied with just a suspension.”
A club room in the main building. Among the small group gathered there, the na of their club was the ‘Chivalry Research Club.’ It was shortened to CRC.
Granvi was among them as well. He glanced out the window. The weather was clear. Unpleasantly so.
“Then why is our Lady Soloven getting derit points?”
“Exactly!”
This club, ford around Soloven, had been quite active until recently.
It consisted only of second-year students and below, and quite a large number of first-years who had just enrolled had joined as well.
It was a place where those who admired Soloven gathered, and where those who admired chivalry gathered.
There was not a single person who was not enraged that, not only had soone like Davide—who had ground chivalry to dust—been shown leniency, but their idol Soloven had been given derit points.
“We can’t just sit back like this.”
“Huh?”
Granvi, who had been staring blankly out the window, suddenly rose from his seat. The eyes of those in the club room turned toward him.
“Let’s submit a petition to the academic affairs office. No matter how I think about it, this isn’t right.”
“Yeah! Those who commit cris should be punished!”
“The academic affairs office is being deceived by Davide right now.”
The students agreed with Granvi’s words. Those who committed cris should be punished. They were all swept up in the fair resonance that phrase carried.
“I have a good idea.”
Granvi’s face was set with determination. His expression resembled that of a hero rescuing a heroine from a demon’s lair.

“Hmm? Did you perhaps fall for this beautiful face of mine?”
I wasn’t the least bit shaken by that nonsense. As a matter of fact, I had just been thinking about how to deal with this clingy bastard.
If he wanted to think that way himself, what could I do? Guys like him had such firmly established worlds of their own that they never listened to what others said.
“Where are you going?”
“To buy what I need.”
Canis, who skillfully stuck to my side, cheerfully struck up conversation.
I had woken up in the dormitory, washed up briefly, and headed out without even eating. Then this guy latched onto .
A great stealth ability that made even decent assassins look trivial. Though there had been a barrier involved, the fact that he could escape from Bereninche ant sothing.
If I ever got the chance, I wanted to learn it. With sothing like that, in terms of survival, I would be nearly invincible.
Anyway, Canis had suddenly appeared at the crack of dawn and accompanied as if we had made plans.
“Mmm. I like that gauntlet we saw back then.”
“Then buy it yourself. You’re the one with plenty of money.”
There wasn’t any special reason I was indulging in this pointless conversation. I was considering dragging Canis into Episode 2 a bit. Let’s suffer together, you bastard.
He was an extrely suspicious guy. His actions, the tone underlying his words—there wasn’t a single thing about him that inspired trust.
If that weren’t the case, he would have helped more during the attack incident. For Canis, protecting Winter was enough. He probably hadn’t felt the need to do anything beyond that.
In other words, he was a calculating bastard just like .
“So what is Dabi going to buy?”
“Do you really have to call by that creepy nickna?”
“Mmm. I can give up on everything else, but not this~”
“For soone saying that, you’re still speaking casually to .”
The fact that he was acting like this ant he had a purpose. At first, it had only been suspicion, but now I had a vague idea.
Still, I was conflicted about how to handle him. It was too early to make a move. If he wanted to stick around, then I would make him pay the appropriate price.
I decided to make active use of him in the Episode. I wouldn’t do sothing insane like bringing him into the Order. He was a bomb, after all.
More than anything, it was obvious Winter would die early from stress.
“Hmm. Making a young lady carry luggage?”
“Shut up. You’re not even carrying it yourself.”
In the end, I moved around with Canis in tow. As I bought this and that, the weight added up considerably. So I made Canis carry the luggage.
The items floated around her in midair, and we strolled about comfortably. The reason she complied so easily was simple.
It was because of the gauntlet fitted onto her hand. For a mage, it suited her strangely well, even set with a blue gemstone on the back of the hand.
—Click.
Of course, I hadn’t paid for it. I had rely offered so sincere assistance from the side.
What’s this even for? The design is terrible. It’s too heavy. The joints aren’t smooth.
After thirty minutes of nitpicking, she bought it anyway—and seed extrely pleased with it. She even praised the fit as being incredible.
—Clang!
A fist suddenly swung at , and I blocked it. There was no malice, no killing intent—just a casual swing. The strength and speed behind it were so pathetic I almost dismissed it absentmindedly.
Her gauntlet and Astral’s gauntlet collided and bounced off each other. Slightly stronger than a fist bump.
I frowned at her, then relaxed my expression. She was wearing the most innocent smile in the world.
“Dabi and I have the sa gauntlet~”
“Mine is far superior.”
“I’m far superior on the person side~ So together, that makes us equal, right?”
“……Are you picking a fight?”
When soone was that shaless, there was no way to refute it. I simply scowled and kept walking.
“Oh, looks like they’re starting sothing~”
As we entered the campus and headed toward the chapel, I sensed sothing strange in the air. It wasn’t the Academy’s usual atmosphere.
Normally, there was the passionate scholarly zeal and the air of youth training themselves. But now, it had settled into sothing colder.
It felt almost like the tension before a decisive battle. The energy was strong enough to make passersby feel slightly uncomfortable.
“What’s that supposed to be.”
As I drew closer, I saw people moving busily about. Every one of them was passing sothing along.
Docunts? No, flyers. If I looked a little closer, they were appeals. They were dressed in the uniform of the Magic Departnt. A group wearing those uniforms was handing out flyers to various students in the main building.
“Excuse , but could you please take this……. Ah! No, I an……. Ah!”
A small but sturdily built girl hurried over and held out a flyer. The hand that was about to pass it to Canis, who had been about to accept it absentmindedly, suddenly froze.
Her gaze had recognized my face. As she hurriedly tried to pull it back, I snatched it away. For soone supposedly from the Magic Departnt, she hadn’t reacted fast enough.
When I took the flyer from her, a look of dismay crossed her face. I twitched one eye and began reading.
[Declaration Opposing the Academic Affairs Office’s Decision]
The recent attack was an unforeseen accident. Though it was a danger beyond the academic affairs office’s control, it was ultimately resolved well…… (omitted)
……However, the academic affairs office has imposed harsh asures upon the top students of each year. The position of top student is by no ans a light one.…… (omitted)
……We were grieved by such a conclusion. But sothing even worse awaited us. We received a notice from the academic affairs office stating that the suspension of Davide, a second-year student of the Magic Departnt, would be lifted.
“This is sothing that must never happen.”
After that, the contents were predictable. The nurous misdeeds I had committed. Testimonies supporting them. A warning to beware of such a dangerous individual and that expulsion, not suspension, should be considered.
Above all, it raised the suspicion that I, who had been disgraced, might have bribed the academic affairs office.
In short, an ordinary delusional novel written by so fantasy-addled idiot.
“How amusing,”
“This child must have nine lives, huh?”
“…….”
I looked at the student who had handed us the flyer. She was trembling pitifully.
Each ti my indifferent gaze brushed over her, her body quivered. Normally, I would have stepped aside and let her go, but I had just read this.
It seed Episode 2 was about to begin. I had thought there would be at least two more weeks.
It was much faster than expected, but there was no problem. Canis stared at the trembling student with curiosity.
“A beast who knows nothing of chivalry.”
The mont I uttered that single line, she flinched violently. The word that had stood out most was chivalry.
Having grown up thoroughly accustod to the modern world, I knew nothing of chivalry. Nor did I wish to know. From that perspective, calling a beast ignorant of chivalry wasn’t wrong.
—What’s that? Isn’t that Davide?
—Oh my god. Did that girl just give ‘that’ to Davide?
—……Shouldn’t soone stop this?
—Hey, hey. You’ll get dragged in too. It’s the fault of the one who handed it out without knowing who he was.
—But still…….
—Then why don’t you step in yourself?
As the standoff continued, people’s gazes began to gather.
Of course they would. Davide had appeared at the very place where flyers calling for his expulsion were being distributed. And in front of him, a much smaller first-year girl was trembling uncontrollably.
“Well. It’s not wrong.”
The girl was startled out of her wits. Only now did she look sowhat pitiable. Co to think of it, what fault of hers was there?
To begin with, it dealt no real blow to , the actual target. It wasn’t as if a re first-year could have accomplished anything.
I patted her on the shoulder and started walking. Canis followed as well, smiling brightly.
A piercing gaze stabbed into the back of my neck. Soon, the number of those intense stares increased. I tucked the flyer into my coat.
If there was a culprit behind this, it would be that bastard. I’d have to properly teach him a lesson.
