Having received Prince Kang’s letter of invitation yesterday, Lady Wu was quite puzzled.
She had no dealings with Prince Kang, so his sudden decision to visit her left her sowhat bewildered.
Nevertheless, as she wielded no power worth coveting, Prince Kang had no reason to seek anything from her. Thus, she accepted the invitation, intending to see what Prince Kang’s visit was about.
Lady Wu invited the two into the main hall to sit down, and a maid ca to serve tea.
Lady Wu couldn’t help but direct her gaze at Jiang Youzhi, not because he was handso, but because this young man sohow looked incredibly familiar and kind, as if she couldn’t look at him enough.
Seeing that Lady Wu had a nanny by her side, Prince Kang smiled and said, "I have important business to discuss with the lady."
Lady Wu imdiately understood and waved her hand, dismissing the nanny.
Then Prince Kang had his guards wait outside the door before handing Lady Wu a bundle.
Lady Wu accepted the bundle, utterly confused, "What is this?"
Prince Kang replied, "Open it, and you will see."
Lady Wu placed the bundle on her lap and opened it in puzzlent.
First, she saw a piece of baby clothing made of subtle-colored fine silk. She unfolded it, and apart from confusion, her expression showed nothing else. Then she spotted the sapphire blue baby quilt, and her expression gradually changed.
As she held the quilt, her hands began to tremble.
Then a tear fell from the corner of her eye.
She abruptly turned to Prince Kang, "Where did Your Highness get these things?"
She rembered clearly selecting the fine cotton cloth, washing and sun-drying it, and then finding a piece of blue brocade satin to make the surface of the quilt, sewing it into a small quilt stitch by stitch.
Prince Kang smiled but did not answer.
Lady Wu seed to suddenly understand sothing and stared blankly at Jiang Youzhi.
Seeing the tears glistening in her eyes, Jiang Youzhi, for so reason, felt a bit of reluctance and spoke softly, "These clothes were worn by when my adoptive father found eighteen years ago, and I was wrapped in this quilt."
Lady Wu was stunned to hear this.
Her hands tightly clutched the small quilt, "How could this be—"
Then she stared at Jiang Youzhi, and large tears began to fall, choking as she said, "No wonder, as soon as I saw you, I felt a kindred connection."
"You, you resemble your father so much."
She seed to want to rise and embrace Jiang Youzhi but suddenly hugged her own head instead, "Oh, Heaven, what have I done?"
"How could I have abandoned my own son like this?"
"What kind of mother am I, to behave this way? I deserve death, I truly deserve death······"
Seeing her in such imnse pain and her voice becoming so piercing, Jiang Youzhi felt increasingly unable to bear it. He slowly rose and walked over, speaking softly, "You— don’t need to bla yourself. Over these years, my life— has been quite fortunate."
