In the blink of an eye, it was the end of the year, and Gu Yuheng was getting married.
The wedding date was specially set at the end of the year, so the family could have a lively celebration for the New Year after the wedding.
Gu Yuheng and Miss Shi discussed it and decided not to hold a big ceremony since neither of them was young, and Gu Yuheng didn’t have the courage to, at his age, dress in red and ride a horse to fetch the bride.
Gu Yuheng had only sent word in advance back to Dayangshu Village, and his two younger brothers, their wives, and nieces and nephews all ca over.
Last ti, his nephew Gu Tang ca along with Gu Yuheng from the countryside. Now, with Gu Yuheng’s help, he had rented a storefront and opened a small grocery store, and the business was doing okay.
The couple didn’t even open the store today and ca early to Renxin Hall to help out.
Gu Lian’s family also arrived early in the morning.
Renxin Hall was not open for business today, and a red paper note saying "The proprietor is celebrating" was pasted at the door.
Red lanterns were hung at the side entrance, and people were going in and out from there.
In the afternoon, a big red bridal sedan was carried to the Gu Family’s door, Gu Tang set off firecrackers, and Gu Yuheng helped Miss Shi out of the sedan.
The Hua Family brought many people to escort the bride, and many of them were seeing Gu Yuheng for the first ti today.
Seeing his gentle and elegant deanor and how carefully he helped Miss Shi, many of her family mbers began to tear up.
Miss Shi had suffered for so many years, who would have thought that at this age, she would still have such good fortune, marrying into such a family and finding such a good man.
The two of them worshipped the heavens and earth, then Miss Shi openly ca out with Gu Yuheng to toast to everyone.
A festive canopy was set up in the courtyard, with several large basins of charcoal burning. The guests were just the Gu Family, the Hua Family, and the staff from Renxin Hall, with no outsiders.
Yun Jiao had asked Yulou East to handle the feast, with the chefs and waiters all provided by them, so even Guihua didn’t have to worry about anything.
Several children also ca back from the military camp. Yun Jiao didn’t let them co to the front, as there were stoves and it was dangerous, so the maids watched over them playing in the backyard.
Gu Chuan hadn’t seen the children for a while, so he played with them for a bit and told them about so of the things he had encountered over the past two years.
At this ti, the banquet hadn’t started yet, when Yingzi suddenly ca in holding a tray. Without saying a word, she placed a cup of tea beside Gu Chuan and left.
Gu Chuan was just feeling thirsty, so he picked up the tea and took a sip.
The temperature of the tea was just right, neither cold nor hot, so Gu Chuan drank another big gulp.
In no ti, it was ti for the banquet.
Gu Chuan brought the children out.
The Gu Family took up two tables, the Hua Family one table, and the remaining table was for Ah Tie and the other staff.
Yun Jiao chose the top-tier nu for the banquet and even added a few extra dishes.
Since it was all family, it didn’t matter how expensive it was.
Abalone, sea cucumber, shark fin, and fish maw were all served, as well as flying fish and rabbit.
They also bought all the vegetables and fruits available in Xiang City during the winter.
Most people here had never attended such a lavish banquet.
Gu Chuan had never eaten such good food before, although his family ate at at every al, it was all just regular ho-cooked dishes.
After eating for a while, Gu Chuan felt very hot.
He looked at the basin of burning charcoal not too far from him and continued eating.
The more he ate, the hotter he felt. Gu Chuan sensed that not only his body but even his heart seed to be heating up. He felt he had to leave the table to take off his thick fur robe.
He put down his chopsticks and quickly walked towards the backyard.
No one noticed Gu Chuan leaving, not even Gu Tang who sat next to him, because all of Gu Tang’s attention was on the dishes on the table.
