Song Yanqing’s heart stirred slightly.

Without saying another word, he strode away.

After Xie Ruotong threw out that sentence, she directly closed the door.

Standing at the entrance, Gong Jingyi looked down at the vibrant red roses and couldn’t help but sigh.

Always felt that the General was deliberately excluding the son-in-law.

Why not give the son-in-law a chance? The son-in-law is actually very good to the General.

After today’s events were explained by the son-in-law, she believed in his innocence, but she felt that the General was more sensible than she was. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to lead so many soldiers to war; the soldiers admired her wholeheartedly. But only towards the son-in-law, why is the General so harsh?

Gong Jingyi couldn’t figure it out, knowing for sure that there must have been grudges between the son-in-law and the General in the past. But the General never told her, she didn’t dare to ask, and could only do things as the General arranged them. Picking up the roses that looked so pretty, she felt it was a waste to throw them away.

It was dusk.

Xie Ruotong was studying military strategy when Gong Jingyi knocked on the door, "General."

Xie Ruotong put down the military book and looked at the setting sun outside, realizing it was ti for dinner.

She stretched and walked towards the door.

"General, co with ." Gong Jingyi suddenly grabbed Xie Ruotong’s hand, sowhat excited.

Xie Ruotong frowned.

What happened?!

Her expression beca sowhat solemn, following Gong Jingyi to the backyard of the General Mansion.

Upon reaching the backyard, she was noticeably stunned.

She looked at the roses before her, planted across most of the yard.

At this mont, the roses, under the setting sun, appeared even more dazzlingly red, stirring her emotions.

Xie Ruotong glanced at Song Yanqing squatting on the ground, still planting.

No other servants were helping him.

So, Song Yanqing spent the entire afternoon doing this?!

"I was just passing by and saw the son-in-law planting roses; they’re really beautiful, so I wanted you to take a look." Gong Jingyi said excitedly, "Always thought the son-in-law was a little clumsy and frail, but didn’t expect him to be so efficient and even surprising when he actually does sothing."

Xie Ruotong’s eyes seed to flicker slightly, but her face still showed no emotion.

She turned around, intending to leave.

"Ruotong." Song Yanqing had already strode up to her.

Xie Ruotong looked at him coldly.

Seeing the mud stains on his clothes, even so on his face.

Song Yanqing had always liked cleanliness and rarely looked like this.

Yet now, he seed unaware, and he said, "Today’s incident was my fault, I promise not to let my mother sche against again. These roses were planted for you; the owner said they’re called roses because they bloom every quarter, four tis a year, each ti just as beautiful."

Xie Ruotong listened indifferently, without responding.

Her eyes seed to barely notice the dirt on his face.

"I hope you’ll forgive my unintentional mistake, and I hope you’ll like them." Song Yanqing smiled brightly.

Under the setting sun, the hideous scar on his face seed to soften with affection.

Xie Ruotong turned away, leaving.

Leaving behind a sentence, "I don’t like it."

Still as cold as ever.

Song Yanqing watched her back.

A beautiful smile once again erged at the corner of his mouth; she only said she didn’t like it, didn’t say she wouldn’t forgive.

That was enough.

Anyway, they had a lifeti between them, he wasn’t in a hurry at all.

...

The Imperial Palace under the setting sun was enveloped in a warm halo.

Xiaoxiang Palace was bustling.

It was rare for the three children to gather together, and with An Youyou chiming in, the dining table was filled with chatter.

"Luming, don’t you like the food?" An Ning noticed An Luming’s distraction.

An Luming snapped back to attention and said quickly, "No, it’s been a while since I’ve had mom’s cooking, it’s delicious."

Today, because all the children were ho, and after dealing with the sterile surgery room for Song Yanqing, An Ning had a sudden urge to make dinner herself. An Youyou and Anqi ate heartily, but An Luming seed to have sothing on his mind.

"Eat more, you’re still growing." An Ning put a piece of chicken in An Luming’s bowl, "Moreover, Xiao Jinxing has you learning martial arts and governance every day now. It’s both physically and ntally exhausting; don’t wear out your little body as mom would be worried."

"Thank you, mom." An Luming replied obediently.

But it was still evident that he had lost his appetite.

An Ning frowned.

An Luming had matured early; she had long deliberately avoided deep topics with him. Now, upon returning, Xiao Jinxing had no idea what he’d been teaching An Luming; a four-year-old acting like forty.

"Tell mom, what exactly are you thinking?" An Ning decided to diagnose the issue.

She should have brought An Luming ho earlier, couldn’t let Xiao Jinxing keep him by his side indefinitely.

An Luming, seeing his mother’s anger, dared not hide his thoughts and said, "I was just suddenly thinking of father."

"Eat properly, why think of him?" An Ning frowned.

Her mood worsened.

Had Xiao Jinxing brainwashed An Luming?!

She didn’t believe it!

"Usually it’s who accompanies father for als."

"Before you ca, he could eat just fine."

"Presiding Attendant said that father used to dine alone but would have another set of tableware prepared opposite him." An Luming said.

An Ning frowned, surprised by this revelation.

Had Xiao Jinxing really acted like this in front of An Luming!

Anqi, listening to their conversation, quickly added, "Mother, it’s true. Anqi dined with father before; he would have extra tableware set opposite him, as if soone was dining with him."

An Luming glanced at Anqi, then turned to his mother and said, "Actually, father feels lonely in the Imperial Palace; no one is there for him, no one understands him."

"Historically, Emperors have always been like this.’’ An Ning said coolly, "Enjoying supre power cos with the solitude of high position; the so-called ’coldness at the height’ speaks to this reality. In fact, the world has always been fair, each person’s fairness is different. Being an Emperor is a great favor from the heavens, and any grievances he has don’t warrant sympathy."

An Luming listened silently to his mother.

Anqi also remained quiet.

Feeling that their mother was too rational towards their father, perhaps even cold.

After dinner,

An Luming took the initiative to leave Xiaoxiang Palace.

An Ning intended to keep him overnight, but An Luming refused.

An Luming said one should keep their word; having promised to stay at Qiankun Hall with father, he couldn’t break it.

Sotis An Ning had to marvel at how well she’d raised An Luming—so principled and upright.
