"Xiaofan!"
In a daze, Qin Chu and Wei Shuying opened their eyes. Seeing Qin Fan before them, they both spoke at once. "Dad, Mom, are you alright?" Qin Fan asked, stopping the transmission of his True Qi. He forced a smile as he grasped his parents’ hands.
"We’re... we’re alright now!" Wei Shuying said, her face pale with lingering fear.
Seeing the raw panic of a near-death experience deep in his mother’s eyes, Qin Fan felt an inexplicable pain stab at his heart. Looking at their ghastly pale faces, he clenched his jaw. "Dad, Mom, what happened?"
The couple exchanged a glance. After a pause, Wei Shuying spoke, her voice trembling, "We don’t know, either. Your father and I were on our way ho from the company when two n suddenly appeared and blocked our car. One of them punched right through the window and ripped the door open. We started screaming, but then one of them said, ’Kill them, quickly!’ The next thing we knew, fists were slamming into our chests. Then... we woke up here. Xiaofan, who brought us to the hospital? We have to find them and thank them properly! Otherwise, I can’t imagine what would have happened!"
"Alright, you two just focus on resting. I’ll have soone find out who did this," Qin Fan said through gritted teeth, his heart aching as he suppressed a rising surge of murderous intent.
"Xiaofan! Just let the police handle it! Please, don’t do anything extre! Those n... they looked like nothing but trouble. They were so cold, it was like they’d just climbed out of a pile of corpses! We have no idea how we could have provoked such monsters. Xiaofan, you’re our only son, you can’t let anything happen to you! Don’t go anywhere for a while. I’m afraid they might be targeting our whole family!" Hearing the grit in Qin Fan’s voice, Qin Chu grew frantic and pleaded with him.
"Xiaofan, your dad is right! Let the police handle it. You mustn’t do anything foolish! I’m scared they might be targeting you, too!" Wei Shuying chid in, her voice full of panic. As the image of the two attackers flashed through her mind, she couldn’t stop herself from shivering uncontrollably. She was certain she would never forget the suffocating presence of death looming over her for the rest of her life.
"Dad, Mom, don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. I won’t do anything reckless," Qin Fan said, swallowing hard and forcing a smile to reassure them. He patted their hands gently. "I’ll go ask the doctor about your condition, and then I’ll report this to the police."
"Okay. Rember, don’t even think about doing anything else. Just let the police handle it," Wei Shuying said, still fraught with worry.
"I will. I’m going to find the doctor now," Qin Fan said, using it as an excuse to turn and leave the room.
Through his Divine Sense, he knew Ye Jizu was waiting outside.
"Boss Qin, everything has been taken care of," Ye Jizu said hurriedly as Qin Fan pushed the door open.
"Good. Let’s talk sowhere else," Qin Fan said with a faint nod, leading the way into a spacious, empty hospital room.
He didn’t bother with trivial details. Qin Fan got straight to the point. "Elder Ye, I need a favor. Spread your network and find out if any strangers from the Underworld have entered Jiangzhou recently."
"Boss Qin, I’m already on it," Ye Jizu replied. "Also, Boss Qin, do you think Lan Xiaosheng could be behind this? After all, his son-in-law and his own son both died by your hand. This kind of retaliation wouldn’t be out of character for him." As he spoke, Ye Jizu’s voice began to tremble. If Lan Xiaosheng was really the one pulling the strings, then wasn’t he in danger too?
But Qin Fan shook his head. "Perhaps, but it’s unlikely. A dignified Grandmaster of the Transformation Realm wouldn’t stoop to attacking my parents to vent his anger. If he wanted revenge, he would co directly for ."
"Then who could it be? Boss Qin, have you made any other enemies recently?" Ye Jizu pressed.
Enemies? At Ye Jizu’s words, Qin Fan subconsciously furrowed his brow. He had certainly provoked quite a few people since his return. The students from Qi Middle School certainly didn’t have such cunning or ans. He Xinyi, who appeared at Ji Yuchen’s birthday party, couldn’t possibly have the guts for this. Qiao Xiyuan, the elite special forces soldier he had crippled? That was unreasonable. Or could it be Zhou Yihang, whom Ye Jizu had driven to bankruptcy?
As his thoughts tangled together, Qin Fan’s heart suddenly lurched. He subconsciously recalled the incident at the Lingnan Fengshui Association. He rembered the man into whose mind he had planted a strand of his Divine Sense. The man who had fled from him in utter disarray.
Damn it!
In that instant, Qin Fan’s expression turned impossibly dark. There was Lan Xiaosheng, there was Zhou Yihang, and there was the cultivator of the Yin Yang Balance Technique. He was now almost certain it had to be one of the three.
However, that last man was undoubtedly the most likely suspect.
"Boss Qin, have you thought of sothing?" Ye Jizu asked hastily when he saw the change in his expression.
Qin Fan shook his head, ignoring him. He turned and walked out onto the balcony. Closing his eyes, he concentrated, focusing his Divine Sense to connect with the strand he had planted in the other man’s brain.
「Sowhere in a mountain stronghold in the Southwest.」
Bai Li held his phone, his face a mask of rage as he roared, "Useless! A bunch of useless trash! You couldn’t even kill two ordinary people?"
"Third Young Master! They’re not dead? How is that possible?" the astonished voice on the other end replied. "How could that couple have survived our attack? We were sure they were lifeless before we left! It’s impossible!"
"Are you saying I’m ssing with you? Damn it! I’ve already received news they were rescued and taken to the hospital. And do you know what the dical report says? No serious injuries, just temporary unconsciousness! You goddamn wastes of food, a woman is stronger than you! Was your punch only ant to knock them out? Damn it! Get to the Jiangzhou Military District General Hospital right now! I don’t care how you do it, but get inside, find their room, and finish the job! I want them dead! Completely dead! Understand?! AH!!!" Bai Li scread, his voice raw with madness.
Ever since Qin Fan had exposed the Bai Clan’s secrets, he had been determined to kill him. But after half a month without a single trace of Qin Fan, his impatience had driven him to use the ploy of luring the snake out of its hole. Fueled by his imnse dread and hatred for Qin Fan, this malicious plan included killing his parents. That family of three had to die. They had to!
"Yes, Third Young Master! We’ll go now!" The two n, who had been waiting at the airport, imdiately tore up their tickets and hurried away.
The call ended.
Bai Li furiously smashed his phone on the ground. "Qin Fan," he muttered, his voice dripping with sinister venom, "I refuse to believe you won’t show yourself after I kill your parents. Soon. Very soon, your family of three will be reunited in the Underworld."
"Heh."
Withdrawing his Divine Thought from a thousand miles away, Qin Fan opened his eyes and let out a cold laugh. An endless, raging inferno flared within his sharply gleaming golden eyes. A boundless, frenzied killing intent surged across his cold, stern face.
