"Holy shit, go, go, go! We can’t beat this thing." Qi Suian watched as the Tai Sui God narrowly dodged a tiger-like Desolate Beast the size of a giant elephant.
Its hide was devoid of fur, covered instead by a layer of iridescent scales that reflected the sunlight.
Its speed was incredible, and its strength was even more ferocious.
Qi Suian estimated that a native with 100 degrees of the Power of the Limit would be finished off with a single swipe from this tiger.
The temperature faintly radiating from its body was already high. One could predict the high-temperature thermal energy within it was at least 300 degrees. Due to its body’s insulation, the upper limit couldn’t be asured for now.
This terrifying temperature was still contained. Once it was unleashed, Qi Suian was certain this tiger-like Desolate Beast’s power would rise yet again.
The strongest beings in the Polar Day World were not humans, but these Desolate Beasts.
They could no longer be considered normal life forms.
A Dark Energy Beam suddenly appeared, striking the tiger-like Desolate Beast right in the face.
Because it erged directly from the Subspace Pocket, it caught the Desolate Beast completely off guard and hit its mark instantly.
The aftermath was easy to imagine. The entire Desolate Beast was disintegrated, along with the high temperature within its body.
Qi Suian ignored the power of the dark energy, as it was simply not sothing he could research at his current stage.
After all, the highest-level thing he’d developed himself was his A-rank talent: Virus Control (Abyssal).
Trying to research an SSS-rank module right off the bat was just being overly ambitious.
’I wouldn’t discover anything and would only waste ti. It’s better to be pragmatic.’
Just like with the tissue samples from the Blood Moon, his progress was still diocre at best.
When progress stalled, Qi Suian already understood that he still had a long way to go.
’Either my knowledge base needs to catch up so I can make new connections, or my power needs to increase to make my mind sharper.’
If neither of those two things happened, then progress would naturally be slow.
"Hunting ti is over. Do you wish to return?"
The AI asked Qi Suian.
In reality, there were still about ten minutes left before the hunt ended, but the AI wasn’t that rigid.
Finding a suitable Desolate Beast within ten minutes would not be easy.
Take this tiger-like Desolate Beast, for example. It was clearly unsuitable as fuel.
Its power was too great; the Tai Sui God couldn’t capture it alive and could only kill it.
Therefore, most of the hunting ti was spent searching for suitable prey.
’As for suggesting a change of weapons?’
Neither Qi Suian nor the AI had any such thought.
The dark energy of the Floating Cannons was absolutely top-tier in terms of offense.
After all, aside from the Blood Moon, nothing had ever survived a hit from it.
The special zombie had survived, but it ca back to life; it hadn’t been un-killed.
So, they never even considered replacing it. The purpose of evolving the Tai Sui God was to make it stronger. To remove its most powerful weapon for the sake of evolution would be putting the cart before the horse.
’It might delay progress, sure, but you can’t beat the safety it provides.’
He was ensuring the Tai Sui God’s safety, but who was ensuring his?
If he fell, no matter how well-developed the Tai Sui God beca, he would have just been working for soone else’s benefit.
Therefore, he had to prioritize himself, not the Tai Sui God.
"Let’s return. Today’s harvest was diocre," Qi Suian said, glancing at the armor value progress bar.
If all went well, in another two or three hours, the armor value would reach the required amount for the Tai Sui God to evolve.
The main problem was that without relying on the Floating Cannons, there were very few Desolate Beasts the Tai Sui God could defeat.
However, through combat, Qi Suian had gradually figured out more about the Desolate Beasts. They truly didn’t need to eat, surviving on sunlight alone.
Thus, Qi Suian suspected that the humans’ Power of the Limit and the origin of the Desolate Beasts were more related to so kind of solar radiation... well, ’radiation’ wasn’t quite the right word. ’Contamination’ was more fitting.
Secondly, Desolate Beasts also preyed on each other. It seed that by devouring the high-temperature heat source within another Desolate Beast, they could enhance their own.
Although it wasn’t a lossless enhancent, they could still absorb about twenty to thirty percent.
As for why they ate humans, based on Qi Suian’s observations, he suspected it was because they were tasty.
Yes, simply because they were delicious.
Those Desolate Beasts were all old, tough, and hard. Compared to them, the natives were naturally much more palatable.
Qi Suian could tell the difference just by looking.
Furthermore, humans were weak—especially the majority who lacked the Power of the Limit. The risk of hunting them was far lower than hunting other Desolate Beasts.
However, the Desolate Beasts didn’t slaughter the natives en masse, because their intelligence hadn’t improved; in fact, it had declined.
So, when faced with groups of humans, they would be wary. It was rare for them to charge directly into human settlents for large-scale hunts.
Instead, they continued to live according to their feral instincts.
It was these factors that had kept the natives from being eaten to extinction by the Desolate Beasts.
Actually, Qi Suian had another theory: the Desolate Beasts might have a very low birth rate, preventing their population from growing.
With a smaller population, the chances of encountering one would be even lower.
Moreover, the areas where most Desolate Beasts lived were considered extrely hot and high-temperature zones by the natives.
Conversely, areas suitable for human habitation made the Desolate Beasts uncomfortable.
Take the Gobi Desert and the other deserts from before; the Desolate Beasts there were not only nurous but also powerful.
They were complete no-go zones for humans.
In contrast, in areas with relatively lower temperatures, it was rare to find a powerful tiger-like beast like the one Qi Suian encountered today.
After the hunt was complete, Qi Suian returned to the previous safe house area.
Once back, Qi Suian preoccupied himself with his research.
And he was experinting on himself.
"Another failure." Qi Suian watched as his arm twisted irregularly.
He naturally used his arm for the experints, mainly because it was easier to observe.
Fortunately, the twisted arm soon began to squirm frantically. A large amount of the abyssal virus began the repair process, which was especially effective with the support of ample nutrients.
He was constantly hooked up to an IV drip of nutrient solution to get his stats to 2.5 points.
After all, the enhancent gained from thoroughly burning his cells with the Power of the Limit required sufficient nutrients as fuel for the improvent to take hold.
Unfortunately, the process was incredibly slow.
Qi Suian wasn’t too concerned, however. He wasn’t concerned with the "aftercare"; what mattered was the strengthening process that had directly raised his stats to 2.1 in the first place.
Qi Suian crossed out one of the plans, archived it, and moved on to test the next one.
"Luck, oh luck, be with !" Qi Suian didn’t really have a better thod; it was just a matter of trying one by one.
He would learn his lessons from the vast amount of failure data and then succeed once he had enough experience.
As for succeeding on the first try, it wasn’t impossible. If Qi Suian had killed the protagonist of the Ancient Martial World and taken his protagonist’s halo, there probably wouldn’t be much of a problem.
Even a protagonist’s halo couldn’t conjure data out of thin air for Qi Suian. The fact that it had delivered three top-tier Evil Dao ancient martial arts was already the best it could do.
Only after Qi Suian added the missing elents himself would the protagonist’s halo have a foundation to work from.
Otherwise, without a platform to exert its influence, even a protagonist’s halo couldn’t make bricks without straw.
If that thing were truly omnipotent, his own halo wouldn’t be stuck at a 2 enhancent.
As for already having one-seventh of it, it had to be a complete piece. An incomplete one didn’t even provide an enhancent effect.
Even if it could provide help, it would be the limited kind, not the type that gives you everything.
Another three hours passed. Qi Suian’s arm was either exploding or in the process of twisting. In this regard, it was a real eye-opener for him.
Witnessing so many different types of arm injuries was a testant to how horrifying his experints were.
Most were side effects from rejection responses, cellular conflicts, and the like.
"I need to take a break. After so many failures, my arm doesn’t even feel like it’s mine anymore," Qi Suian said softly.
"This is a perfect ti for you to install the heat dissipation module on the Tai Sui God."
The AI reminded him at the opportune mont.
The heat dissipation module wasn’t a critical component, so the AI had chosen not to interrupt Qi Suian while he was experinting on himself.
’Don’t install it since we don’t need it right now? What if we need it later and don’t have ti to install it then?’
Installation and upgrades also took ti.
Besides, the other modules were even less urgent. As long as they didn’t enter dangerous areas, the greatest threat was still the high temperature.
Qi Suian took a look and saw that the Tai Sui God’s armor value had, at so point, reached 17, completing its sixteenth evolution.
"Next is 18 armor value. Looks like we’ll have to move around a lot in the near future."
Qi Suian installed the heat dissipation module directly and obtained a new module.
SSS·Black Dark Energy Crystal
This module could convert high temperatures into radiation, which was then turned into evolution energy by the Star Core Condenser.
With only the heat dissipation module, it would simply vent the heat. But in conjunction with the Star Core Condenser, the heat could be further utilized.
This ant that the higher the temperature, the more evolution energy would be generated.
Of course, this had one prerequisite: the Tai Sui God had to be able to withstand the heat without being destroyed.
So, for this set of modules that seed incredibly powerful against high temperatures, the weak point was the Tai Sui God itself.
Unfortunately, increasing the Tai Sui God’s evolution count was a real Gold-devouring Beast. Luckily, it could be improved passively; otherwise, Qi Suian would probably have to hunt from dawn till dusk.
As for why they needed to move, it was naturally because the number of Desolate Beasts in the vicinity suitable for fuel was limited.
Areas like this one, which were relatively suitable for human habitation, were not ideal for Desolate Beasts, so their numbers were low to begin with.
There were plenty of Desolate Beasts that t Qi Suian’s conditions, but finding them was difficult.
After all, the land was vast and the beasts were few. If Desolate Beasts were everywhere, there wouldn’t be so many native settlents.
"AI, start planning. We’re not coming back here tomorrow. After the hunt, we’ll move to a new place directly."
Qi Suian gave the AI its instructions, then went back to his own experints.
For him, just the research on ’jin’ was already overwhelming; he didn’t have the spare ti for anything else.
"As you command."
After acknowledging the command, the AI began data planning and map simulations to find a new safe house area for Qi Suian.
