Now reading: The Necromancer's Bargain from The Shadow of Draconia, a Action novel by Ash.

The village of Greymire lay in ruin. Smoke clawed at the sky as twisted trees bore witness to carnage. Corpses, both fresh and ancient, littered the streets, and a sickly green aura hovered over the land.

Here, amidst despair and decay, Kaelen Duskbane thrived. A man of pale skin, black robes stitched with faintly glowing runes, and eyes that burned a ghostly green, Kaelen commanded the dead. Skeletons of warriors long forgotten rose to his call, their empty eyes staring into nothing yet obeying every motion of his staff.

The Guide System whispered:

[Potential Executioner Detected: Kaelen Duskbane – Title: “The Soul Reaper.”]

[Evaluation: Loyalty Achieved Through Temptation.]

Veyra, Korrak, Nyssara, and Draven flanked Sonar as they approached the ruined village. The dead stirred at their presence, skeletal soldiers groaning and rattling their bones in defense of their master.

Kaelen’s voice echoed across the battlefield, cold and commanding: “Who dares step into my domain? Mortals, or fools?”

Sonar’s black eyes scanned the necromancer. “Neither. I am Sonar Von Draconia, and I have a proposition. You seek power and freedom, yet the world hunts you. Follow , Kaelen Duskbane, and I will give you armies without end, worlds to conquer, and vengeance upon every kingdom that shuns you.”

Kaelen laughed, a sound like dry bones grinding. “Many have offered the sa. Freedom? Power? Words an nothing. Show why I should kneel to a mortal.”

The necromancer lifted his staff, and the dead surged forward. Hundreds of skeletons, withered corpses, and even a few revenants, charged the intruders.

Korrak smashed through a wall of skeletons, hamr and fists crushing bones. Veyra and Nyssara struck from the shadows, slicing through the reanimated warriors before they could reach Sonar. Draven roared, wings unfurling, and breathed fire upon the battlefield, turning undead flesh to ash.

Kaelen observed, intrigued rather than afraid. His green eyes glowed brighter.

Sonar stepped into the center of the chaos, black flas swirling around him. “Your army is impressive, mage. But alone, you are a child playing with corpses. With … you will command entire nations of the dead. Kingdoms will kneel to your sorcery, and no army will stand in your way.”

Kaelen tilted his head, assessing the boy. “You speak boldly, mortal. But what of my freedom? I bow to no man… not even to you.”

Sonar’s voice was calm, precise, and irresistible. “You will bow only to opportunity. To vision. To a purpose that surpasses vengeance. I do not demand submission, Kaelen. I offer dominion — and a na that will live beyond death.”

For the first ti, the necromancer’s lips curved in sothing resembling interest. He lowered his staff slightly, the dead halting mid-motion.

“I will test you,” Kaelen said, green flas flickering from his eyes. “If your promise is empty, I will reduce you and your companions to bones.”

“Do what you will,” Sonar said. “And if you fail… you will join the ranks of your own dead.”

The dead surged again — but this ti, under Sonar’s influence, so faltered, their allegiance shaken. Kaelen noticed imdiately, and a flicker of respect passed across his gaunt face. He studied Sonar’s command of magic, strategy, and ruthlessness.

Finally, after a tense silence, Kaelen lowered his staff completely. “Very well,” he said. “I am Kaelen Duskbane. My sorcery, my legions, my vengeance… are yours to command. But betray , and I will raise an army to destroy even your empire.”

Sonar smiled coldly, extending a hand. Kaelen placed his pale, skeletal fingers against it, and the Guide System confird:

[Recruitnt Complete: Kaelen Duskbane – The Soul Reaper.]

[Fifth Executioner Acquired.]

Six shadows now stood behind Sonar: Veyra, Korrak, Seraphis, Nyssara, Draven, and Kaelen.

The Draconic Executioners were no longer whispers in the dark. They were a rising storm, poised to devour kingdoms.

And soon, every crown would burn.
