Chapter 1058: Chapter 80: Broken Thread_4

Arthur frowned upon hearing this and said, “Did they succeed in the end?”

“Of course not, otherwise you wouldn’t think Francois would be locked up in St. Pelagie Prison, would you?”

Victor said triumphantly, “Even though his plan was arranged perfectly, the intervention of a ddling detective caused a small accident. Ever since I discovered who this scoundrel really was, I’ve been striving to take all asures to capture this fellow, which would earn the honor of successfully arresting the ‘elegant gentleman’ and protect Mr. Monette’s property and his daughter’s chastity.

Just like Mr. Monette, I don’t trust won in love, and my level of distrust goes even deeper than his. This helped make the correct judgnt: Francois, this scoundrel, would soon visit the Monette household. As for that letter, in fact, I had already read it before the old lady handed it to Francois and fully obtained my permission.

At ten o’clock that night, I, along with four other detectives, arrived early at the stakeout point. This position allowed to see Francois as he passed by. At about eleven o’clock, Francois and his two companions began climbing the stairs punctually.

Upon arrival, the two accomplices had to wait for a mont because Francois had to find an excuse to open the door and let them in. After half an hour, they were called in, and we quietly followed them, climbing the stairs. I had a carefully prepared key given to by Old Monette, so we crept in as well, standing in the hallway to prevent being seen by them.

A few minutes later, we heard Emma scream loudly, and Old Monette shouted, ‘Murder! Thief!’

So we hurriedly burst into the room, and we noticed poor Emma was lying on the ground with her blouse torn open in several places, one of Francois’ accomplices was trying to stop her from screaming by either gagging or strangling her. Whether gagging or strangling, if we hadn’t arrived in ti, she would soon have no breath.

Old Monette was dragged off the bed, Francois held a knife, stepping on him and threatening him to disclose where the money and treasures were hidden, lest his life co to an end. Upon seeing us, Francois still wanted to make a last-ditch effort, but alas, he didn’t get support from his accomplices and had no choice but to surrender. This guy regretted imnsely that we didn’t arrive half an hour later, but if we had indeed been late, it wouldn’t have been our matter at all.”

Arthur lightly clapped his hands upon hearing this and said, “A very perfect operation, the criminal evidence is conclusive, and there are no doubts in the case trial, even sentencing him to life in hard labor, Francois would have no reason to object. However, I have a question, what happened to Miss Emma and her old father after this case ended?”

Victor said contentedly, “Of course it was a happy ending! Shortly after this incident, Emma married a man of upright character, and Old Monette’s performance this ti was more enlightened than we expected, and he was very satisfied with his son-in-law.”

As Victor’s words ended, the carriage began to sway and move again.

Hearing such a good story, Arthur felt much better, he leaned his head to look out the window and suddenly noticed a simply decorated open-top carriage driving out of the prison.

A large sack was loaded on the carriage, with soone wearing a Great Paris Police Hall uniform sitting by the sack.

In Paris, Arthur knew few police officers, but coincidentally, he recognized the officer sitting on the carriage.

It was the sa guy who had once fought with him outside the Breaux Detective Agency.

Seeing this, Arthur hurriedly tugged on Victor’s sleeve, “Mr. Victor, look, what is that?”
