Now, not only was Hua Dingzong frightened, but even Hua Manman was taken aback.
’Isn’t tonight Prince Zhao and Han Ruren’s wedding night?’
’Why would he suddenly show up here?’
Hua Dingzong wanted to have Prince Zhao invited into the main hall to wait.
But Prince Zhao headed straight for the ancestral hall instead.
The mont Hua Manman saw him, she froze.
He was still dressed in a magnificent, wide-sleeved robe of black with red trim. The golden crown on his head glittered in the darkness, and the gold and jade inlaid on his leather belt were even more dazzling.
’Isn’t that his wedding attire?’
’Why did he run out dressed like that?’
While Hua Manman’s mind was reeling with questions, Hua Dingzong had already scrambled outside in a panic.
"Your humble servant greets Your Highness, Prince Zhao. Please forgive my failure to welco you properly."
Li Ji sat in his wheelchair, his eyes as black as ink and veiled with a layer of frost. Yet, he forced the corners of his mouth into a smile, making the expression look sinister and utterly terrifying.
"I heard Elder Zhong’an was putting on quite a show today, so I ca to see for myself."
As he spoke, his gaze fell on the rattan cane in Hua Dingzong’s hand.
Hua Dingzong hastily tossed the cane aside and gave a sheepish laugh.
"Your humble servant was just dealing with a small family matter. I didn’t expect Your Highness to arrive so suddenly. My apologies for this embarrassing display."
At that mont, the old matriarch also ca over and greeted Prince Zhao.
He Family then rushed into the ancestral hall while no one was looking.
She grasped Hua Manman’s hand tightly, saying through her tears,
"It’s my fault. I’m the one who’s hurt you."
Hua Manman comforted her. "Don’t cry. This has nothing to do with you. Let’s go outside."
He Family knew this wasn’t the ti for tears, so she quickly wiped her eyes. "Alright."
Everyone ca out to pay their respects to Prince Zhao.
Li Ji was only here because his trusted aide had reported that Hua Manman was arguing with Elder Zhong’an and was likely to get the worst of it.
That was why he had rushed over.
Just as he entered the Zhong’an Bo Mansion, another trusted aide stationed there reported that Elder Zhong’an had just struck Hua Manman.
Li Ji had been strongly possessive since childhood. He couldn’t stand anyone else laying a finger on what was his.
And now, he considered Hua Manman his possession.
Upon learning that his possession had been struck by another, his mood instantly plumted.
When Li Ji saw Hua Manman erge, he scanned her from head to toe. There were no obvious injuries, but his aide’s report wouldn’t be false. That ant her wounds simply weren’t visible. He would have to examine her properly when they returned ho.
He spoke in a low voice.
"Co here."
Even though Prince Zhao hadn’t said her na, Hua Manman knew he was calling to her.
She gave He Family a reassuring look and then walked toward Prince Zhao.
"Your Highness, why have you co so suddenly?"
Li Ji sneered. "If I hadn’t co, you might have been beaten to death."
Though he spoke to Hua Manman, it was obvious to everyone that he was holding Elder Zhong’an accountable.
Hua Dingzong was panicking, and a cold sweat broke out on his back.
He explained hastily.
"I... I was just overco with anger for a mont, that’s why I struck her. I didn’t hit her hard. She should be fine."
Li Ji retorted coldly, "So being overco with anger gives you the right to strike my nanny?"
Hua Dingzong was speechless.
Li Ji raised his right hand. "Bring the horsewhip."
Chen Wangbei imdiately stepped forward, presenting a heavy, black horsewhip with both hands.
