Feng Jingyao and his wife had just left when Feng Yun imdiately sent soone to follow them.
They stayed at an inn arranged by the Jin Court, and during their days in Xijing, they were quite active, openly and secretly hosting nurous officials from Dajin, both from the New Party and the Old Party, with interactions all around.
The next day, using the excuse of visiting Luo Yue’s young son Da Bao, Feng Yun made a trip to the Wei Residence.
Wei Zheng was at ho taking a day off today.
He did not hide anything about Feng Jingyao’s matters.
"Minister Feng invited to Yu Xiang Fang for drinks, talked about poetry and beauty, didn’t ntion anything else..."
Both were serving their respective masters, thus they would not rashly discuss other matters.
Feng Yun slightly smiled, "Given the character of my uncle, since he’s hosting, surely he wouldn’t co empty-handed, right?"
Wei Zheng glanced at Luo Yue, with a slightly embarrassed expression.
"He brought a young lady about seventeen or eighteen years old, but I declined."
Luo Yue smiled unfalteringly.
Feng Yun also smiled.
This, they still believed.
Although Wei Zheng is lustful, he wouldn’t dare to carelessly accept a beauty sent by the Qi Envoy.
He’s not that foolish.
At noon, Feng Yun had lunch in the courtyard of Luo Yue, accompanied by Wei Zheng.
After three rounds of drinks, Wei Zheng told Feng Yun that the Imperial Cavalry Division had discovered, three years ago, Feng Jingyao had bought lands and a house in Xijing under his son, Feng Xun’s na, and even took over a brothel—Yu Xiang Fang where Wei Zheng was entertained.
As the two countries are allies and Yu Xiang Fang was doing legitimate business, the Imperial Cavalry Division couldn’t find faults, yet Feng Yun didn’t believe Feng Jingyao was just trying to make money.
"Yu Xiang Fang is rely a cover for his activities in Xijing."
Feng Yun said to Wei Zheng, "If there’s any other news, I hope Chief Wei could notify ."
"Of course," replied Wei Zheng politely to Feng Yun, taking Luo Yue’s hand and telling her, "I have always stood on your side."
Luo Yue felt relieved.
These days, she had been afraid that Wei Zheng might despair and do sothing that frightened her, affecting her and Da Bao.
That statent was a disguised declaration of loyalty towards the Prince of Yonghuai.
Feng Yun was deeply touched and kept thanking him, but intuitively, even through flatteries and familiarity, she knew well in her heart...
So words are better just heard.
The people at the Imperial Court only see benefits.
-
Returning ho from the Wei Residence, Feng Yun had already planned.
However...
To deal with Feng Jingyao in Xijing, she still needed Pei Jue’s cooperation.
He hadn’t co back yet.
Just the day before yesterday, because of the matter involving Li Sangruo, they had a brief argunt, and Feng Yun wasn’t willing to concede easily.
After dinner, she read for a while, bathed, changed into clean clothes, and then lay down on the bed.
Xiaoman had scented her nightgown, which slled fresh and comfortable, making her a bit drowsy.
Forcing herself to stay awake, she drifted between sleep and wakefulness until the middle of the night when the door creaked softly.
A gentle breeze brushed the curtains, causing a slight sway.
Aozai sat up, glaring with widened eyes.
Feng Yun lay with her back turned, utterly still.
Pei Jue slowly approached, bent down, and stroked Aozai’s head, "Go to sleep."
Normally Aozai, terrified of him, would give way even before he approached, but today it sat by the bed, head slightly lowered, glaring with his eyes looking fierce yet sowhat cute, the "smart hairs" on the ears twitching fiercely.
Pei Jue grunted.
Not forcing it further, he stepped past Aozai and sat on the edge of the bed, gazing at the "sleeping" Feng Yun.
Silently.
Gazed for a long ti.
Feng Yun’s back gradually stiffened.
About to break character, suddenly a hand landed on her shoulder, pulling the quilt higher, voice low,
"You seem to be sleeping well."
The breath wafted onto her, warm, tornting.
Feng Yun slowly lifted her eyelids, looking sideways.
"Why wouldn’t I sleep well if I haven’t done any guilty deeds?"
Saying this when awake felt different.
Pei Jue’s lips twitched slightly, turning her face towards him, eye to eye.
"Do you dislike serving so much?"
This question ca sowhat out of nowhere.
Feng Yun frowned as she listened.
"Are you not satisfied?"
"..."
One statent about dissatisfaction and he suffered for it.
Pei Jue sighed deeply, "Shall I take back that statent then?"
Feng Yun: "It’s too late to take back now."
Pei Jue: "Such disposition..."
He shook his head, his gaze deepened, "Is this the reason you want to take a concubine for ?"
To take a concubine for him?
Feng Yun blinked in surprise, realizing sothing, and let out a cold snort from her nose.
"Really? When was I ever so generous? How am I unaware?"
Pei Jue’s voice was faint: "Lady Yun has always been generous."
Feng Yun t his gaze, speechless.
She had indeed said that before.
Not to bear children, not to enter the inner quarters, letting him take concubines...
"But I won’t share a husband with soone else," Feng Yun stated calmly, her eyes then shifting, becoming chilly and distant, "Has Feng Jingyao approached you?"
