"Ah! Haha, how could that be? Your presence here truly brings light to our humble abode. I'm beyond thrilled, how could I not welco you!" Du Jinglan hurriedly replied, secretly wiping away a cold sweat. It seed talking to the police station chief required extra caution!
"Is Lin Chuan still here?" Yu Minen casually walked over to the sofa and plopped down without any ceremony, suddenly looking up to ask.
"Yes, he's inside giving a massage to a custor! If you're looking for him, I can call him out for you right now!" Though Du Jinglan harbored disdain for so officials abusing their power, her own survival was at stake here. Reluctantly, she still had to act submissive in front of Yu Minen. Besides, her impression of Yu Minen wasn't all that bad.
Yu Minen waved his hand, smiling as he shook his head, "No need. I'm here to get a massage myself. Don't be so polite with , it makes uncomfortable. Just treat like any other custor."
"You're... here for a massage?" Du Jinglan was suddenly struck by disbelief. Logically, officials like him wouldn't be interested in a small place like theirs. What was up with the chief today? Was he perhaps feeling guilty about what happened earlier today and decided to get a massage?
Seeing the question in Du Jinglan's eyes, Yu Minen chuckled and said, "Alright, stop overthinking! Even though I'm the police station chief, I'm still human. Workload has increased lately, and I'm often left with back and shoulder aches. So today, I wanted to get a massage for so relief!"
Hearing this, Du Jinglan finally breathed a sigh of relief. She was genuinely worried the station chief had other motives!
After exchanging a few more casual words with Yu Minen, he nonchalantly started asking about her relationship with Lin Chuan.
Despite wanting to establish so connection with Lin Chuan, Du Jinglan knew he seed disinterested in her. She smiled and said, "Chief Yu, Lin Chuan is just helping our boss look after the shop temporarily. I have no relationship with him."
"Oh, I see. So where is Lin Chuan originally from?" Yu Minen asked with a smile.
Without much thought, Du Jinglan replied, "I don't really know, but he's not from East Sea County."
As she finished speaking, Du Jinglan realized: Didn't Director Yu know Lin Chuan? How could he be unaware of his background? Could there be more to this story?
At this thought, Du Jinglan grew calm, attentively observing Yu Minen's every move.
Yu Minen wanted to ask more about Lin Chuan but stopped when Lin Chuan ca out from the massage room.
Finishing the massage for his last custor, Lin Chuan walked out and was visibly surprised to see Yu Minen on the sofa.
"Jinglan, would you give Director Yu a massage?" Lin Chuan turned and asked Du Jinglan.
"No need, I've never had a young girl give a massage before. I'd rather have you do it!" Yu Minen declined with a smile before Du Jinglan could respond.
"Damn, I just said I never wanted to see this old guy again, and now, not even a day later, here he is!" Lin Chuan cursed inwardly, but managed a smile.
Lin Chuan chanically shook hands with Yu Minen without saying much, leading him to the massage room.
During the massage, Lin Chuan worked expressionlessly, while Yu Minen kept critically eyeing him, lost in thought about the strengths and weaknesses of the Lin Chuan he knew!
"Mind if I call you Lin Chuan?" Yu Minen broke the massage room's silence, unable to hold back anymore.
"Sure, call whatever you want!" Lin Chuan didn't pause his work, focused on the massage, yet feeling increasingly anxious, eager to finish and get Yu Minen out of there!
Although Yu Minen claid to be Yu Xiaohui's neighbor, Lin Chuan desperately wanted no connections with her. And with Yu Minen being the station chief, his sudden interest in their modest massage parlor hinted at an ulterior motive!
"Haha, you don't seem happy. Not thrilled about giving an old man like a massage?" Yu Minen joked, seeing Lin Chuan's reluctance to engage in conversation.
"No, I treat all my custors the sa way," Lin Chuan replied unwaveringly, showing no expression.
Yu Minen chuckled lightly, pausing briefly before asking, "I heard you're not a local. Where's your ho?" Realizing this was rude, he quickly added, "Don't misunderstand , I don't an to pry into your privacy!"
Seeing Lin Chuan's lack of response, Yu Minen understood and continued, "Do you plan to work here? Or do you have other aspirations? It's good for young people to take risks."
"Hmm?" Lin Chuan humd softly, suddenly wary. Yu Minen's persistent inquiries about his background had Lin Chuan questioning his intentions. Was he trying to play matchmaker between him and Yu Xiaohui?
As Yu Minen asked a few more questions, Lin Chuan deflected them all, refusing to provide genuine answers.
Feeling slight discomfort from the awkward situation, Yu Minen sighed, then suddenly said with a smile, "Actually, I need to thank you!"
"Thank ? For what?" Lin Chuan was puzzled, wondering if Yu Minen was just making small talk.
Yu Minen spoke sincerely, "If it weren't for you, those pests in our police station wouldn't have been cleared out!" He then recounted the station's overhaul, not forgetting to express his gratitude to Lin Chuan.
Lin Chuan had no clue he had inadvertently done a good deed but maintained modesty, offering only a few polite words as he intensified his massage technique.
"Ow... No... no, my bones are about to break from this! Could you be gentler?" Yu Minen cried out, feeling sharp, searing pain wherever Lin Chuan's hands pressed.
"Don't worry, the initial pain is worth the relief you'll feel afterward!" Lin Chuan boasted, inwardly scoffing, "Let's see you talk through all the nonsense now!"
While initially overwheld by the soreness and burning sensation, Yu Minen gradually felt his entire body relax as the earlier discomfort faded away.
"Alright, we're finished!" Nearly an hour later, Lin Chuan completed the massage, washing his hands and face before returning to find Yu Minen still on the massage table. Raising his voice, he announced, "Director Yu, we're done!"
"Hmm?" Yu Minen replied softly, cracking open sleepy eyes, apologetically saying, "Haha, sorry, I nearly fell asleep!"
"It's fine; most people feel like that afterward. Go ho, get so rest, and see how you feel tomorrow!" Lin Chuan smiled, implying he was eager to see Yu Minen leave, as that ant he could finish work soon.
As Yu Minen stood to leave, it struck him that aside from the massage, he hadn't managed to extract any information of value from Lin Chuan. He sighed, knowing his wife would berate him again tonight!
If it weren't for Yu Xiaohui's persistent mother, who insisted Yu Minen dig into Lin Chuan's affairs, he wouldn't have bothered conversing so much with Lin Chuan!
After Yu Minen's departure, Du Jinglan tried to ask Lin Chuan how he knew Director Yu and what their relationship was.
"Well, haha, it's a bit of a fluke!" Lin Chuan laughed, recounting how he t Yu Xiaohui on the bus, subdued a criminal, then ran into ng Hui at the police station where Director Yu found out about ng Hui's case through him, ultimately purging the police station of its bad apples!
Lin Chuan deliberately portrayed Yu Xiaohui as a pretty middle-aged lady to avoid any misunderstandings with Du Jinglan!
After listening, Du Jinglan rely rolled her eyes, grabbed her bag, and left for ho.
Du Jinglan's rented apartnt was even smaller than Lin Chuan's. Perhaps to save on rent, her living room only fit two tables, and her kitchen barely had space for one person. There was a large bed in the bedroom, but aside from a few pieces of simple furniture, the place felt quite bare.
At that mont, Du Jinglan sat on her bed, her face somber, holding her phone in one hand while scribbling in a notebook with the other, seemingly calculating sothing.
