Boom...
The grenade was trendously powerful, instantly blasting a swath of wolves into the air. The alpha wolf was sent flying by the imnse force and landed not far away, covered in blood, its mouth opening and closing as blood flowed unceasingly, its eyes filled with fear. Not only was the alpha blown away, but many others in the pack were too. The wolves were instantly terrified. Those that had been relentlessly assaulting the treetops began to retreat.
Next, anxiety spread among the pack, the injured wolves howled miserably, to the extent that the uninjured ones started to cower. Soon after, so of the wolves began to pull back, and quickly, the pack retreated like a tide. The scene quickly quieted down, apart from the pitiful howls of the wounded Indian wolves, there was no other movent.
"I'll go down and check," Lin Chuan instructed, "You watch from above and keep inford."
"Okay!" Miss Lan nodded.
Lin Chuan leaped down from the treetop, circled the area, and quickly said, "Co down, we need to go."
Whoosh...
Miss Lan jumped from the treetop, rolling on the ground like a spring to lessen the impact of her fall.
"The sll of blood is too strong," Miss Lan frowned and said, "Other predators will co soon. So, we need to leave."
"Let's go!" Lin Chuan waved.
The two imdiately disappeared into the dark forest. The intense sll of wolf blood completely masked the scent of Lin Chuan's wounded arm. Along the way, they were relatively safe, trekking for over two hours until the sky gradually lightened. From ti to ti, light could be seen creeping through the gaps in the trees.
"It's getting light," Miss Lan spoke.
"Yeah, it's already past six," Lin Chuan wiped the sweat from his forehead.
With the light, their trek beca much faster. Even though Miss Lan was tired, she knew that if they didn't reach the rendezvous point by seven o'clock, they might not be able to return. So, despite her fatigue, she had to press on with clenched teeth.
After a long hike, the two finally reached the rendezvous point at seven o'clock.
The eting place was located in a valley of the Yibu'er Mountain, where a river with rapid currents and a large grassy lawn on both sides could be found. An ideal spot for a helicopter landing. The place was chosen precisely because it was suitable for a helicopter to land.
The two made their way through the dense jungle and, upon erging, indeed saw a Night Hawk Helicopter parked not far away.
"We've finally made it, that's great," Miss Lan was thrilled, excitedly throwing herself into Lin Chuan's arms and saying, "We've finally made it out alive."
Even for a Dark Soldier, it was extrely grueling. Not only did they face the pursuit of hundreds of base branch mbers, but they also had to deal with various predators in the jungle and the threat of poisonous creatures lurking in the dark. In short, Miss Lan felt the journey was extrely difficult.
Although they had escaped, Lin Chuan's expression remained unkind. Squinting, he stared at the helicopter not far away. They could see the helicopter, but no people. This quickly raised Lin Chuan's alertness.
"Lin Chuan, let's hurry," Miss Lan couldn't wait to leave this accursed place.
"Yes," Lin Chuan nodded.
Miss Lan dashed straight towards the helicopter, while Lin Chuan, although feeling sothing was amiss, couldn't quite put his finger on what was wrong.
At that mont, Lin Chuan suddenly glimpsed a man in a black camouflage suit hiding in the jungle. Although the man was well-concealed, Lin Chuan's visual acuity was very sharp. Even the slightest abnormality would trigger his high alert.
"Xiao Lan, stop!" Lin Chuan suddenly shouted.
"Ah?" Xiao Lan was stunned.
"Get down!" Lin Chuan yelled.
Xiao Lan imdiately realized sothing was wrong and rolled away just in ti. As she made her move, the hidden sniper imdiately opened fire.
Bang...
The bullet whizzed by, nearly grazing past Xiao Lan's ear. She broke out in a cold sweat and lay motionless on the ground. Nearby, Lin Chuan swiftly took out his rifle with only two bullets left. If he couldn't take down the enemy within those two shots, then they would be at the rcy of the sniper's bullets.
After firing a shot, the sniper imdiately changed his position and quickly vanished into the jungle.
Lin Chuan lay on the ground, sweat soaking through his clothes. A clump of bushes lay in front of him, so he was not worried about being targeted by the sniper, but it was different for Xiao Lan. She had been too excited and had rushed out, now lying prone on the ground without any cover, which was Lin Chuan's greatest worry. Once she was targeted by the sniper, she would be in danger.
Lin Chuan was extrely nervous, holding the rifle in his right hand, and slowly pushing his body up with his left. His eyes scanned the jungle like radar, ready to take down the sniper the mont he was spotted.
Unfortunately, since the first sighting, there had been no further trace of him, as if he had disappeared from this world.
Lin Chuan knew that the sniper must have moved to a second sniping position, choosing to wait quietly for his prey there. Or perhaps he was switching between the second and third positions. A sniper would never stay at one position to aim at their targets; they would switch to several different positions before lying in wait, as only then could they ensure their own survival.
Xiao Lan lay on the lawn, motionless, her heart racing up to her throat. She didn't dare to move, placing all her hopes on Lin Chuan. Without any cover beside her, any slight movent would surely result in the hidden sniper imdiately shooting her down.
Miss Lan was extrely nervous. She turned her head to see Lin Chuan kneeling on one leg behind a clump of bushes, holding a rifle in his right hand, seemingly searching for the sniper's position.
Miss Lan imdiately made a gesture towards Lin Chuan. Lin Chuan firmly waved his hand, refusing.
Miss Lan wanted to use herself as bait to lure the sniper into firing. Once he fired, his position would be imdiately exposed, giving Lin Chuan an opportunity to take him out. However, the odds of this working were slim, which is why Lin Chuan refused. Even if the odds were high, Lin Chuan would never use Xiao Lan's life as bait, it was an unnecessary risk.
In the end, Miss Lan decided to take the risk.
She quickly rolled forward.
Fifty ters away, a loud bang rang out, and from within the dense jungle, a burst of fla shot out.
Lin Chuan seized the opportunity.
Bang, bang...
At a distance of fifty ters, using a rifle to take out a sniper hiding in dense vegetation required determining his effective position based on the flash and sound of gunfire. After firing two shots, Lin Chuan quickly rushed towards the enemy.
Seeing Lin Chuan charge out, Miss Lan also swiftly sprinted, crouching low to the ground.
In the jungle, a body lay in a deep ditch, one bullet had entered through the temple, another shot had hit his calf. Miss Lan exclaid in surprise, "Lin Chuan, when did your marksmanship beco so accurate? It's incredible!"
Lin Chuan imdiately stripped off the man's clothes to reveal the mask on his face.
"One of our own?" Miss Lan was startled, seeing an Eastern face, a typical Northern man.
Rumble...
At that mont, the helicopter rose into the sky and slowly left the lawn behind.
"Oh no, the plane's gone!" Miss Lan shouted urgently.
"It seems this was all just a trap," Lin Chuan spat, frantically going through the man's clothes, only to find no identification on him. The sniper rifle was German-made, the handgun was an Arican style, the bulletproof vest and gloves were Arican equipnt, even the helt was from the United States. Lin Chuan clenched his teeth and said, "Yet, there isn't a single item that's ours; this, precisely, gives the ga away."
"Does this an, it really was done by one of our own?" Miss Lan was shocked.
"Your capture this ti was also due to betrayal," Lin Chuan stripped down the enemy's weapons and carried them on his back.
"I had already guessed," Miss Lan nodded, saying, "Soone wants Dark Soldier to be destroyed."
"This is a political struggle," Lin Chuan spat.
"What should we do?" Miss Lan asked.
"We are professional soldiers, so we must obey orders," Lin Chuan said decisively, "Obeying orders is the duty of a soldier. Even if there is a pit ahead, we must grit our teeth and jump in."
"Just to die in vain?" Miss Lan asked.
"Exactly," Lin Chuan nodded.
"How can that be acceptable?" Miss Lan snorted coldly, saying, "We've fought with our lives to protect them, and now, they want us to die?"
"Right!" Lin Chuan nodded, "That's the mission of a soldier."
"I understand," Miss Lan nodded.
She seed sowhat helpless and also a bit innocent.
"Pack up. It's ti for us to go," Lin Chuan waved his hand.
"To where?" Miss Lan suddenly felt lost; the people she had always protected now wanted to kill her, which inevitably made her uncomfortable.
"We can't just die here," Lin Chuan spoke, "While at the US military base, I studied the map; there's a small town about fifty kiloters from this valley. Once we get to the town, we'll find a way to get a car, head eastward, and make it to Pakistan. That way, we can leave this place."
"And after we get out?" Miss Lan looked up at Lin Chuan, "Go back and willingly walk to our deaths?"
"Fool," Lin Chuan suddenly pulled her into his arms, saying, "So people want us dead, so we'll stubbornly live. We should live well."
Miss Lan held Lin Chuan tightly, saying, "I suddenly feel scared."
