Chapter 123: Shaping the Characters

Afterward, Long Tao, Zhuge Jingde, and True Lord Luohong spent so additional ti carefully discussing the various details within the illusion realm.

True Person Mingzhu stood to the side with her two disciples, listening quietly.

The more she listened, the more astonished she beca.

She watched with her own eyes as True Lord Luohong, three thousand years old, and the several-hundred-year-old Sect Master actually engaged in earnest discussion with Long Tao, this young disciple.

Judging from their animated expressions, the two great powers seed deeply invested in it.

“As for that fat lackey’s background,” Long Tao said, stroking his chin thoughtfully, “it would be better to set him up as the son of a nouveau riche family from a small town. That way he would be both inexperienced and well-funded. Later on, when he handles errands like procuring supplies and smoothing relationships for that person, it will make sense and won’t arouse suspicion.”

“Good idea.” Zhuge Jingde imdiately voiced his approval and added, “Let’s say he’s from Hekou Town. That place only prospered in recent years due to river transport—nouveau riche are everywhere. We’ll also give the fat boy the identity of an illegitimate child. That way, even if that person investigates, he won’t find any flaws.”

“Brilliant!” Long Tao sincerely praised.

“As expected of the Sect Master—so thorough in your considerations.”

“Not at all, not at all.” The Sect Master smiled and waved it off, then asked, “And what about this Senior Sister’s image? How do you plan to shape it?”

“First, her appearance must certainly be outstanding, but not the kind of beauty that could topple a nation.” Long Tao analyzed seriously.

“If she’s too stunning, it creates distance for n. Her personality and temperant should be gentle, but she must not dote unconditionally. If soone makes a mistake, she would correct it at the proper ti. Most importantly, her Dao Heart must be firm. She should give the impression of a guide on the Immortal Path, not rely a girl-next-door who only knows how to take care of others.”

“You’ve really thought this through.” True Lord Luohong chuckled.

“Speaking of which, the Senior Sister you described reminds of one I t when I first entered the sect. She was exactly as you described. Although she ultimately failed to form her Golden Core, her appearance remains unforgettable to this day. Why don’t we model this character after that Senior Sister of mine?”

As one of the three predecessors of the Nine-Xia Heavenly Sect, the Qixia Sect had once been the most prosperous of the three factions and was said to trace its lineage back to ancient tis.

The sect’s current Main Peak had originally been the Main Peak of the Qixia Sect, and Qixia Town at the foot of the mountain derived its na from it.

As soon as True Lord Luohong finished speaking, he condensed two lifelike humanoid phantoms on the deck of the Cloud Vessel using spiritual power.

One was a short and plump youth, his honest face tinged with timidity—the very image of a lackey.

The other was a tall and upright female cultivator, her brows gentle, her bearing unique.

She was not the sort of breathtaking beauty like True Person Mingzhu who could dazzle the entire audience at first glance, but she possessed an affable warmth, like a spring breeze brushing the face.

“This is the Senior Sister from my mory…” the True Lord said, gazing at the phantom of the female cultivator with a trace of nostalgia.

He then continued,

“However, this Ye Jingchen has surely already investigated Moon-Washing Peak. At the very least, he should know about Mingzhu’s personally transmitted disciples and important registered disciples. Therefore, the identities of these fabricated figures must withstand scrutiny…”

True Person Mingzhu imdiately understood.

“Rest assured, True Lord. I will arrange reasonable and plausible background identities for these two fabricated ‘Senior Sister’ and ‘Junior Sister’ so that he will not grow suspicious.”

“Very good. Then let’s shape the other two roles as well.”

Seeing the Nascent Soul True Lord so full of enthusiasm, True Person Mingzhu could not help but shake her head lightly.

Three thousand years old, yet at tis still like a child.

As spiritual light flowed at True Lord Luohong’s fingertips, two more phantoms quickly ford on the deck.

The Junior Sister was shaped as the typical young lady of a prestigious clan, around thirteen or fourteen years old.

Her pretty little face carried an innocence untouched by worldly matters.

Tilting her head, she adopted a coy pose, curiously sizing up the crowd.

Her delicate and charming deanor caused Long Tao and Nan Yuchen to involuntarily brighten, while Zhu Huaisu could not help but smack her lips, wearing a look of disdain as though she had just seen a fox spirit.

As for the final elderly senior, he was portrayed as an old man at the Foundation Establishnt Stage.

According to True Person Mingzhu’s setting, this old man had no hope of forming a Golden Core and was nearing the end of his lifespan.

Relying on connections accumulated in his early years, he chose to serve as an ordinary steward at Moon-Washing Peak, spending his twilight years in peace.

When the four carefully designed “NPCs” stood in a row on the deck, even Zhu Huaisu—who had hardly participated throughout—felt a faint sense of accomplishnt rise within her, as though she had returned to childhood days of assigning roles to beloved cloth dolls.

“Very well, this will do for now.” True Lord Luohong examined his work with satisfaction before his expression turned solemn.

“Everyone must rember: this Ye Jingchen’s origins are unclear, and his abilities are strange. All information concerning him is classified as the sect’s highest secret. Without my permission, matters regarding the illusion realm must not be disclosed to anyone.”

“We respectfully obey True Lord’s decree!” everyone responded in unison.

Afterward, those present each swore a Dao Heart oath before True Lord Luohong.

As the oath took effect, the matter’s level of confidentiality imdiately rose to a degree even the younger generation dared not inquire about.

“The rest will be left to us adults.” The True Lord waved his hand, excitent like that of soone who had just acquired a new toy flickering across his face.

“You three little ones may simply enjoy watching the Disciple Recruitnt Ceremony.”

As soon as his words fell, True Lord Luohong’s figure vanished from the Cloud Vessel.

Zhuge Jingde and True Person Mingzhu each offered a few additional instructions before departing as well, leaving the three young people staring at one another.

“Honestly!” The mont the elders left, Zhu Huaisu imdiately turned on Long Tao, hands on her hips, glaring at him angrily.

“Every ti I run into you, nothing good happens! I ca happily to watch the Disciple Recruitnt Ceremony today, and sohow ended up making two Dao Heart oaths for no reason!”

Long Tao spread his hands helplessly.

“How can you bla for that? If you’re going to bla soone, shouldn’t you bla that Ye Jingchen instead?”

“Hmph! Of course I bla him, but aren’t you from the Heavenly Pivot Pavilion? Why not just report directly to the Sect Master or True Person Shi? Why did you have to co to the ceremony?”

“I had no choice. My younger sister is participating this ti too. If I, as her elder brother, didn’t co, that would have been inappropriate.”

“Younger sister?”

The other two spoke in unison, puzzled.

“Yes. You both should know that Xiao Ying, the youngest personally transmitted disciple of True Person Zhiying, was originally my maid. After she took Xiao Ying away, she gave our family a recomndation letter.”

“Wait! Your sister also has a spiritual root?”

“Of course. All four mbers of our family have spiritual roots. I was just the only one who wanted to pursue cultivation. If not for that recomndation letter, she would probably still be at ho right now.”

This revelation left the two of them wearing expressions of disbelief.

Although spiritual roots were not as rare as one in ten thousand or one in a thousand as rumors claid, they were still close to one in a hundred.

According to sect statistics, within the territory of the Nine-Xia Heavenly Sect, roughly one in every forty or fifty people possessed a spiritual root.

Even in many long-standing cultivation clans, it was common for an entire generation to produce not a single descendant with spiritual roots.

That was precisely why more and more families chose to attach themselves to the sect.

Although they had to offer considerable resources as annual tribute, it ensured steady protection.

In tis of decline, at the very least the sect would shelter them while they waited for the next generation to be born and try their luck again.

For a small family of four like Long Tao’s—both parents and children all possessing spiritual roots, and even their maid being a genius taken as a personally transmitted disciple by a Golden Core True Person—if such news were to spread, it would likely infuriate those great clans who had painstakingly managed their households only to see their talent pools wither.

Where could they possibly go to reason with fate?
