El rushed inside to get so of his stuff

Suddenly, John’s own phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw Pala’s na flashing on the screen.

He took a steadying breath before answering.

"Hey."

"Where the fuck did you run off to?" Pala’s voice barked through the speaker.

"Just following a lead downtown, Pamy. Trying to get ahead of the noise."

"Well, I need you here. We got so new orders."

John looked at the house. He could see El’s shadow moving frantically past the window. "What kind of orders?"

"The kind that make our lives a living hell if we don’t produce a suspect by shift change," Pala said. "Get your ass back to the station. Now."

She hung up before he could say anything. John shoved the phone back into his pocket and hamred his fist against the side of the truck.

Then he jumped into his cruiser and sped off.

He arrived at the station an hour later. Pala was sitting behind her computer typing sothing. As soon as she saw him, she gave a bright smile.

"We got him," she said. "He was trying to leave town."

John went pale. In the space of one hour, El had been arrested.

"Wow, so fast."

"Well, you know what happens when the case is a top priority," Pala said. "In fact, I’m beginning to think this girl Lyvana must be related to the president or sothing. Every resource we have was aid right at this guy’s head. He didn’t stand a chance."

John gave a dry smile, his heart hamring against his ribs.

"The boys picked him up at the bus station," she continued. "He had a suitcase packed and everything. Talk about looking guilty, right?"

"Um... yea. So, where is he?"

"Oh I don’t know. Perhaps main headquarters. The Commissioner wants a confession before the evening news hits. This guy is toast."

John’s grip tightened on the edge of the desk. "Main headquarters? Already?"

"Yeah," Pala said. She looked satisfied, almost excited. "They didn’t even bring him here for processing. A black SUV picked him up the second the cuffs were on. They aren’t taking any chances with this one, John. With the Commissioner personally involved and all."

John felt a cold sweat break out across his forehead.

"Did they... did they get a confession yet?" he asked.

"Not yet. Or at least, they aren’t sharing it with us lowly officers," Pala shrugged, turning back to her typing.

"I’m going to go... grab so coffee," John muttered, already turning toward the door.

"Make it a double," Pala called out after him.

John walked out of the room, but he didn’t head for the breakroom. He stepped into the stairwell, breathing hard.

"That imbecile," he hissed. "That idiot."

....

Everything was moving so fast that Lyvana’s head was spinning.

She sat at her desk, staring at the muted news reports on her wall-mounted TV.

Just a few hours ago, her life was falling apart. She had been trapped in her office, unable to leave because of the crowd of reporters and caras outside. Now, everything had changed.

First, the police statent had cleared her na in front of the whole world. Then, Ethan called with even bigger news: the man from the video had been arrested.

She couldn’t believe how famous she had beco. A few months ago, she was a nobody. No one even knew her na. Now, she was the biggest story in the city. How had her life changed so much? Of course, Julian.

Suddenly, she thought of Dr. Jasmine.

She picked up her phone and typed the na into the search bar.

Dr. Jasmine Vance.

She scrolled past dical papers and articles the doctor had written. But then, she saw sothing that made her gasp. It was a wedding invitation for a ceremony in two months ti.

Her heart stopped. It was the exact sa wedding card she had used in her past life. The sa design, the sa colors, the sa everything.

"What the hell?" she whispered.

For a mont, she forgot all about her own issues. This was impossible.

There could only be one explanation for this. Her fate must have been transferred to Jasmine.

How was this even possible? She didn’t know Jasmine at all in her past life, except for that day in the hospital.

Lyvana stared at the screen, her fingers trembling slightly.

"She’s living my life," Lyvana whispered to the quiet office.

It was as if the universe had a script, and since Lyvana had walked away from it, the role had been given to soone else. But if Jasmine was living Lyvana’s old fate, did that an she was also walking into the sa trap? Did it an Jasmine was about to marry the type of man who will humiliate her?

A cold chill ran down her spine. If the fate was the sa, then Jasmine wasn’t heading toward a happy wedding. She was heading toward a disaster.

Lyvana looked at the nas on the invitation. Andrew Thorne. She didn’t recognize the na at all.

Was Andrew Thorne a predator wearing a handso mask.

She made a ntal note to find out everything she can about him.

While she was lost in thought, Julian’s private number flashed on the screen.

A smile broke through her shock.

"Hi love."

"Hi baby," he said. His voice was cool and calm, the kind of voice that always drove her crazy.

"Julian," she whispered. "I’ve missed you so much."

"I want you to show just how much you missed ," he responded cooly. "I’m outside the office in my car."

Lyvana felt her heart skip a beat as she grabbed her bag and ran to the private elevator. The stress of the morning, the news, and the strange wedding invitation all faded away.

The lobby was completely quiet except for her security staff.

There were no reporters or paparazzi.

As she stepped outside, a large, shiny black SUV was waiting. The door opened instantly, and she stepped in. Julian put his tablet down and opened his arms.
