The head wolf closed its eyes, feeling it was about to die.
Its body was covered in countless wounds of varying sizes, especially the punctured wound on its front leg. Even if it sohow healed, it wouldn’t be able to hunt afterward.
Rather than being bullied by the pack and starving to death when the ti cos, it’s better off like this now; at least its wolfish pride is intact!
Fortunately, Hua Hua and the cubs’ vengeance was fulfilled, but what’s unfortunate is...
It doesn’t have the chance to see its cubs grow up.
The head wolf opened its eyes one last ti, glancing at Wen Ran, and thought sorrowfully, hoping this two-legged creature would be reliable enough to raise its cubs well after taking its belongings.
It was going to die...
Wen Ran looked at the fallen head wolf sowhat bewildered, and soon realized it was likely due to excessive blood loss.
However, whether or not it was her imagination, Wen Ran felt the wolf before her was being overly dramatic.
A faint sense of sadness surrounded its body.
Tsk~
Wen Ran’s current request was simple: to keep this wolf from dying easily.
After all, it could be considered her link with the wolves on this mountain.
Wen Ran pried open the wolf’s dying mouth on the ground and poured a mouthful of spring water from her space into it without hesitation.
Seeing the wolf still unresponsive, Wen Ran continued to pour in more water.
Until she watched its belly visibly swell.
Wen Ran: "?"
Was it dead or not?
She pondered getting a bit closer to listen to the wolf’s breathing, but unexpectedly, the head wolf suddenly gasped violently.
The sll...
Oh my gosh!
Absolutely atrocious.
If a cesspool exploded, this would probably be the sll.
Wen Ran threw the head wolf aside and turned around, retching.
The head wolf: "..."
Its pride was hurt.
But it couldn’t deny that it felt life’s vigor returning inside its body.
Wen Ran staggered to her feet, collected all the wild boar on the ground into her space, and then stuffed the head wolf into her basket, "Well, if I leave you here now, it seems like a certain death fate.
So, how about I take you back to heal?"
A weak whimper ca from the basket.
Wen Ran adjusted her emotions and quickly left the scene of the incident.
Avoiding the crowd, Wen Ran brought the head wolf ho to nurse it back to health, though en route, setting three conditions: no random howling and no harming people...
Along the way, she encountered small groups heading up the mountain to gather goods.
"Oh, Xiao Wen, you’re coming down from the mountain? It’s still early; why not gather more?"
"No need," Wen Ran replied with a smile, her basket full of pigweed behind her, "I just ca back for so pigweed, that’s all."
"Only pigweed?"
Soone, disbelieving, reached to touch Wen Ran’s basket. Wen Ran dodged and slapped the person’s outstretched hand, "What are you doing?"
The person sheepishly said, "Oh, nothing, just having a look."
"What’s there to see?" Wen Ran rolled her eyes, "Let see your basket!"
"Why look at mine?"
"Reach out so far, beware, next ti I’ll chop it off!"
She gave a nonchalant threat and didn’t linger since she was carrying a wolf behind her, and any fuss would expose her.
She swiftly descended the mountain and had just placed the head wolf in the storage room to heal when she heard a knock on the door.
"Knock knock knock~"
Wen Ran instinctively frowned, "Who is it?"
"It’s ."
The voice sounded like Chenyue Xiao.
Wen Ran raised her eyebrow, closed the storage room door, and called out, "Coming."
"Creak~"
The door opened to reveal the thin form of Chenyue Xiao outside, though she was a bit more plump than when they first t.
However...
eting her eyes, Wen Ran felt an unfamiliarity.
"Second Sister, co in and sit."
"Oh! Sure."
Chenyue Xiao looked around Wen Ran’s small ho and marveled, "Your house has been built for quite so ti; this is my first visit!"
"Hahahaha," Wen Ran laughed, "You can co by more often if you’d like, Second Sister."
"Not often anymore," Chenyue Xiao smiled serenely as she held Wen Ran’s hand, "I know that in regards to Li Chenggang and all related matters, you’ve helped a lot."
Wen Ran was taken aback, "Second Sister, you already know?"
"Yes, I know," Chenyue Xiao sighed, "I just didn’t expect that after sleeping beside soone for so many years, I wouldn’t know if the person lying next to was human or a ghost."
Wen Ran lowered her eyes, her tone bitter, "Second Sister, no one wants this; it’s not your fault, you’re also a victim."
"I know, I won’t bla myself or Minmin, but the situation remains, and no matter how hard we try to live, we’ll always be affected by the environnt."
Chenyue Xiao spoke with calm terror, "I’m indifferent, but Minmin is so young, too young to bear these burdens, it’s truly pitiful."
Looking at Chenyue Xiao, Wen Ran had a foggy guess, hesitantly asking, "Second Sister, do you want to leave here?"
Chenyue Xiao smiled, "See, won understand each other; I didn’t even say it, but you know."
"So, where do you want to go?"
"To a place where no one knows us," Chenyue Xiao reassured, "Don’t worry, it’s not a rash decision, it was Chenguang’s idea.
The environnt there is good, the education is excellent, and I’ll have soone to rely on."
Wen Ran’s eyes brightened, "That’s the best!"
"Yes."
Chenyue Xiao gazed at Wen Ran, feeling imnse gratitude that words couldn’t express. Besides, she knew that words of thanks often felt insincere.
She took a very neatly folded handkerchief from her pocket, "Inside is a gold bracelet that Li Chenggang gave when we were still on good terms.
Now, I no longer need it, so take it as a token of my gratitude."
"I can’t accept this."
It’s gold!
"Do you find it unlucky? Rest assured, it’s a family heirloom, perfectly legitimate. Keeping it only adds to my troubles, better to give it to you."
Unable to refuse any longer, Wen Ran finally accepted it, "Second Sister, then I’ll keep it."
"Keep it," Chenyue Xiao smiled, "maybe in a few more years, when tis improve, you can lt it down and make a small trinket."
Afterward, Chenyue Xiao ntioned seamlessly, "By the way, did you graduate from high school?"
"Yes."
Chenyue Xiao looked at Wen Ran, "Don’t give up studying; you might return to the classroom to learn again in the near future.
Then, returning to the city won’t be just an unreachable dream."
Her words pointed too strongly.
Wen Ran’s eyelashes fluttered as she feigned heartbrokenness, "Could I really return to the city in this lifeti?"
She chuckled, "I thought I’d spend the rest of my life here."
"Wen Ran," Chenyue Xiao said finally, "Trust , you’ll have a wonderful life."
A voice called out from the door, "Miss Xiao, it’s ti; we should be leaving."
"I’m leaving now."
The car drove out of sight, taking Chenyue Xiao and her daughter toward an entirely unknown path.
