Liam’s POV

My chest felt like it was being crushed.

Every second that blue dot on the screen remained still, my wolf, Knight, was clawing at my ribs, demanding blood.

"What if she has been captured by the rogues?" Leo whispered. His voice was shaking—a rare sound for him.

We all stared at the phone, watching the tracker. It had stopped moving just a few steps away from the heart of the rogue camp.

"She’s there," Leo said, his eyes filled with panic. "She’s right in the middle of that hellhole."

Leon turned toward the door, his face pale. "I’m going to tell the fathers. They have to open the gate. They won’t let her die out there."

"No!" I barked, grabbing his arm to stop him.

My wolf was howling in absolute agony, a sound so loud in my head I could barely hear my own thoughts. I was terrified for her—more than I had ever been for anything in my life—but I had to hide it. If I let my emotions spill over, if I showed how much I was truly hurting, my brothers would realize the truth. They would know Scarlett was my mate.

"Father won’t allow us to leave," I told them, forced to keep my voice steady. "He made his choice when he sent her away. If we go to him now, he’ll just take the phone and lock us in this room."

I felt so damn helpless. If we had already been officially inaugurated as the Alphas, I would have the authority to override the guards and tear those gates off their hinges. But right now, I was just a son being kept in a gilded cage.

We stood there in a panicked silence until Leo spoke up. "What if we call Godfather Damien?"

"No," I refused imdiately. "Damien is our fathers’ uncle. He’s old school. He’ll take Fathers’ side and tell us to stay put."

"Then what about Brother Ethan?" Lana asked softly.

The room went dead silent.

Alpha Ethan. He was our Godfather’s son, the current Alpha of the Obsidian Pack. We were technically family, and we spoke at formal events, but we weren’t close. Ethan was almost ten years older, cold, and rigid. He ran his pack like a military operation and stayed out of everyone’s business.

"He won’t agree to help," Leon said, shaking his head. "He won’t want to go through any stress, let alone for a... a servant girl."

"He’s the only one nearby with enough power to act without Father’s permission," I said, my fingers tightening around the phone. I didn’t care if he hated . I didn’t care if I owed him a thousand favors for the rest of my life. If there was even a one percent chance he could get to her before the rogues broke her, I had to take it.

"Let’s try," I commanded.

I dialed his private number, my heart hamring against my ribs. It rang three tis before a deep, emotionless voice answered.

"Liam. This is an unusual ti for a call."

"Ethan," I said, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to remain calm. "I need a favor. A massive one. There is a girl... a girl from our pack. She’s been taken by rogues near the Forest Pack border. Father has us locked in. We can’t get to her."

There was a long pause on the other end. Through the speaker, the low, steady hum of car engines filled the room. It was clear Ethan was already on the road, going sowhere.

"So?" Ethan’s voice was as cold as a winter morning. "How is that my business, Liam? I don’t interfere with rogue territory disputes, and I certainly don’t interfere with your father’s decisions."

I looked at the phone, my heart sinking, but Leo leaned in closer to the speaker. His usual arrogance was gone, replaced by a raw, desperate plea. "Please, Ethan. Just help us bring her back. Scarlett is young... she’s innocent. She’s our friend."

I couldn’t believe my ears. Leo, the most aggressive of us, was calling her a friend.

"Scarlett?" Ethan’s voice sharpened slightly. "The daughter of the people who had a hand in your mother’s death? You’re asking to risk my n for her?"

We all swallowed hard, the weight of our family history hanging heavy in the air. "Yes," Leon said quietly.

"You rember her, right?" I added, my voice tight. "You two t three years ago when you ca for our father’s birthday."

The line went silent for a mont. I knew he rembered her. That day, three years ago, I had almost gotten into a fight with him because of how he was looking at her—but that was a story for another ti.

Leon pleaded again. "Please help. Our father sent her away, and through our tracking device, we can see she’s right in the middle of their camp."

"I am too busy for such things," Ethan said flatly. Click. He hung up.

I panicked. My hands were shaking as I redialed imdiately, putting it back on speaker. Ethan grunted when he picked up, his irritation clear even through the phone. Before he could snap at us to stop calling, Lana snatched the phone from my hand.

"Brother Ethan, please!" she sobbed, her voice breaking. "Please help her! She is my best friend. If anything happens to her, I’ll never forgive myself. Please, Ethan... do it for ."

Lana kept talking, her words jumbled with tears as she begged him. On the other end, we heard Ethan let out a long, frustrated groan.

"Lana, stop crying," he muttered, his tone softening just a little. "Fine. I’ll help. Give a mont to reroute. I’ll call you back."

The line went dead again. We waited in an agonizing, terrifying silence. Five minutes felt like five hours. Finally, the phone vibrated. I rushed to pick it up and hit the speaker.

"She is there," Ethan said, sounding deeply annoyed. "And it’s worse than you thought.

My blood turned to ice. My knees nearly gave out.

They are auctioning her off right now."
