Fenric had folded the pelts nearly in the corner, right underneath the stick I used to hang my clothes.
I’d say he’d make a good house husband, huhu.
He also brought the rocks from the square and set them just as I did before, right in front of the hut, since we would be using fire, and lighting a fire in a cave we were going to sleep in was not ideal.
Not only that, he even gathered the sticks underneath and spread dried leaves, so we could set the fire easily.
Where on Earth would I find such a hardworking husband, who isn’t just hardworking but handso and adores his wife?
He makes blush.
"I also brought water," Fenric said. "Here, drink so."
I drank the water, feeling refreshed.
I definitely need one for myself.
And so, I began to prepare the barbecue. The scent alone made salivate. Ah, I wish I could eat it morning, afternoon, and night, but I can’t always have what I want.
Setting the fire like this just for barbecue was stressful. It would be a different story if I planned to cook a al.
Hm, I’m suddenly craving rice.
No, no. I quickly shook my head, shaking the thought out. If I start having these cravings, I might go crazy because I won’t be able to satisfy my taste buds.
For now, I should be content with barbecue.
"Mm," I heard Damar mumble from inside, and I looked inside the cave to find he was awake.
His eyes peering at from the dark cave gave goosebumps. Not frightening goosebumps but an electrifying feeling.
"Ah, you’re awake," I said. "Are you hungry? I’m making barbecue."
Fenric looked inside the cave and we watched as Damar slowly slid out until he was out, under the moonlight.
His hair and his scales glistened, as they always do under the shade of the beautiful moon, making it seem like he belonged more to the night than day.
"What’s that?" Damar asked, pointing at the at on the hot stone, which I will now refer to as a grill.
"Ah, I’m grilling at. You probably don’t know what it is but it’s delicious. Trust ." I said and he nodded, slowly coming to my side.
"It slls so," he said and I smiled happily.
I’m sure he will definitely love it.
"You slept a lot." Fenric suddenly said, "While I was doing all the hard work."
It wasn’t that he was complaining, he was just poking at Damar to see his reaction. Like a dog trying to test the limit of a cat but Damar did not give him any reaction.
He stared blankly at him, telling him his provocations weren’t going to work.
I saw the taunt and saw where it was going, so I cleared my throat to break it up before either side began to take it seriously.
"Ahem, it’s almost done," I said, using a stick to flip the at.
I was going to use the sticks like chopsticks— luckily I learned to use chopsticks cause I loved going to Chinese restaurants — but that would be too difficult for them to imitate, so I was using two hands to hold the sticks.
Fenric was already salivating, anticipating the grilled at, and Damar too.
Though he didn’t say it, his eyes were stuck on the at sizzling on the grill and letting out a very pleasing aroma. He gulped loudly, which I’m sure he didn’t realize.
I giggled.
I feel proud of making a treat that they both look forward to.
"Alright, this is done, but it’s a bit hot, so I’m going to place it over here first," I said, picking the at with two sticks and placing them on another rock.
"I’ll help," Fenric said, picking sticks from the fire to do as I was doing, and Damar did the sa.
"I will also,"
But it felt foreign to him. He looked at the sticks and then at how I was doing it.
He decided it couldn’t be that hard, but the mont he thought he had gotten a hold of the at, it slipped from the stick and fell back on the grill.
"No need to rush it, okay?" I said, even though I knew the at would only get burnt if it stayed on the grill any longer.
I just didn’t want to ruin the fun and make it seem like he didn’t know what he was doing.
Sure, he didn’t know what he was doing but that was the fun of it. Discovering new things.
I watched him as he focused on that particular at, not wanting to be bested, and the mont he got a firm grip on it, his face lit up.
Fenric and I had been watching, partially because that was the last at on the grill and partially because we wanted to see how he would do.
The mont we saw his face brighten up, it set aside a proud feeling in our hearts, and yes, I am speaking for Fenric as well, since he also felt it.
He was quite witty and a quick learner so it didn’t take him long to realize how to do it when I did it the first ti during the feast.
I thought he would make fun of Damar for it but he didn’t. Instead, he anticipated his progress.
"I did it, Ari," Damar said and I smiled.
"Yes, you did. Now, bring it over here." I said, pointing at the rock the other at we’re gathered.
I saw Fenric trying to steal a quick bite and smacked his hand.
"No touching until it’s done," I said and he pouted.
"I can’t help it. It just slls so good."
"Well, just hold on a little. It’s almost done." I said and looked at Damar who still hadn’t brought the at over.
Ah, that’s right. It was one thing to get a firm grip of the at, and it was another to move it without losing that grip.
Damar had a scowl on his face, his brows knitted and his eyes fixed on the at, as if it would disappear the mont he blinked.
"Co on, Damar, you can do it," I said, but just as he moved his hand, trying to pass the at from the grill to the rock, it slipped and fell on the floor.
Silence followed as we stared at the at on the floor, and then the situation beca awkward.
