Now reading: Chapter 139: This time, I have to get rid of her from The Ugly Duckling Of The Tiger Tribe, a Fantasy novel by Authorfredah.

The atmosphere was so tense, that it felt like the air was holding its breath as well.

My heart was racing. Not from excitent, but from sothing else.

As I looked at Kaelor who had stood up for Veyra, despite all she had done, despite all I suffered in her arms, and despite how she went too far in her final act, I felt a pang of pain in my chest.

It wasn’t comical, I assure you. It was painful. But then why did my lips curl up and why did a laugh escape them?

I laughed, mocking my situation and where we had found ourselves.

"Yes, yes, it’s a good thing not to kill her," I said, and struggled to stand, but Damar aided .

He looked at the scratches on my face and my arms with concern. And then, he asked,

"Why shouldn’t we kill her?" His eyes glowed with the sa murderous rage Fenric had in his eyes.

They were both set on getting rid of Veyra. It must be because of . Yeah, they’d hate for the one who made suffer all my life to remain breathing after all was said and done.

"Arinya, I know you have a good heart, but you shouldn’t forgive your enemies," Fenric said, his gaze boring into Veyra’s still body lying behind Kaelor. "Especially one with an unrepentant heart."

"Of course, even I’m not that generous." I said, "But..." I glanced over at my who was silent.

Though it looked like he was just letting us carry out judgnt, I knew he was affected.

He had his fists clenched and could not even look this way. That man may not have been a proper father to but...

"Let’s call it filial petty," I said. "Of course, they also don’t deserve my filial piety. But I’ll consider it a gift to the chief before leaving."

He recently lost his wife whom he had taken care of despite her sickness, his first daughter was going to leave the tribe for good, and then his second daughter whom he had showered with love all this while, the one who resembled his deceased wife was about to die at the hands of his daughter’s mate.

I’m not about to make myself a villain to be hated in this tribe for the rest of my life.

Though I have no plans of coming back, leaving with my na spitting out of people’s mouths like a curse did not sit right with .

"Arinya," Fenric called and I looked at him. He did not look back at and only spoke with his gaze forward.

I watched his back. I watched how the muscles contracted as if he was keeping his emotions locked up between those folds.

"You can practice filial piety in another way." He said. "This ti, I have to get rid of her."

Despite how cold he sounded, I could hear the concern in his voice. His obsession with giving a worry-free life, I’d say.

I smiled and then walked towards him.

I dropped my head on his back and wrapped my arms around his body, my hands landing on his rock abs.

Because he was extra tense, his abs were harder than usual and they felt good. But let’s not dwell on that right now.

I have to show him I’m fine.

"Fenric, you’re honestly not good at hiding your feelings," I said and he looked down at my hand. He saw the blood streaks and the scratches Veyra had left on my precious skin.

He wanted to touch my hand, but his own hands trembled, and he couldn’t bring himself to do so.

Instead, he looked up with more hatred. He needed to do sothing. Sothing to atone for these scars inflicted on .

"Fine, I won’t kill her." He said. "But... I can’t let her go free either. I will take away the thing she values most in her life." His eyes went dark.

I paused, wondering what he was referring to and then he grabbed my arm.

"Please stay here, Arinya. I’ll finish up quick." He said and attempted to free himself but I clung on tightly. "I said I won’t kill her."

"What are you trying to do?" I asked and he finally glanced back, but sothing in his eyes broke as he saw the scratches on my face.

"I’m just going to pay her for what she did to you." He said.

"Ari," Damar called, distracting . He reached his hand out and said, "You should co here for now."

I hesitated, looking at Fenric but then sighed.

Let’s just get this over with, I guess.

So long as he wasn’t planning to kill her, it should be fine.

I freed my hands and then Fenric walked forward. Kaelor did not step aside and this made Fenric frown.

"For the sake of our forr friendship, I haven’t done anything to you," he said and then his voice beca heavy. "But if you try to stop one more ti, I’ll do worse than I already have in mind for her."

Kaelor swallowed hard and then was forced to step aside. He fell to his knees, panting and sweating. He felt like a failure. Unable to stop Fenric this one ti.

They used to be close friends but now... It was as if he didn’t even know him anymore.

This was the price he had to pay for his cri.

Damar held , his eyes fixed on the wounds on my body and this made him hateful. He wished he could be the one to rip Veyra to pieces, but he had to respect my wish not to kill her.

"Why did you ask us not to kill her?" Damar suddenly asked and I turned to look at him.

Though, it seed like I stopped Fenric because I didn’t want to kill my father’s daughter. There was another reason.

I grinned.

"Do you know? There are things in this world that are worse than dying." I said, and what followed was Veyra’s bone-chilling scream, as if they were ripping her flesh out.

But what was going on was Fenric leaving deep claw marks on her face, much deeper than the ones she left on my body, and ones that were bound to leave a scar.

She cried but Fenric covered her mouth, holding her like a worthless mutt. Her screams were muffled from then on.

Her eyes widened in horror and she struggled, but she could not even get him to budge. Tears and snort rolled down her face but that was not enough for Fenric to let go.

Veyra watched with her eyes wide open as he made sure to leave just enough scars to ruin the one thing she loved the most.

To Veyra, losing her beauty was definitely worse than dying. Keke.

Yes, this is the best revenge I can give at the mont. I hope you’re watching, Arinya because I finally did it. I finally got your revenge. So, you can rest in peace now.

It’s over.
