"He’s washing off the blood. You really did a number on his back, Little Tiger."

"He did a number on my everything!" I hissed, though I reached out and took my daughter, pulling her into the crook of my arm. She imdiately began to root for milk, her tiny paws kneading my sore chest. I winced. "Where are the rest?"

"With Damar," Noah said. "He wouldn’t let them out of his sight. He’s... intense today. Protective. But his fever is gone."

I looked at the bright ray of light flooding the entrance of the cave. The struggle of the winter, the fear of the delivery, the suffocating darkness of the hibernation—it was all behind us now, wasn’t it?

"Help up," I said, reaching a hand out to Noah. "I want to see it. I want to see the sun."

Noah and Fenric each took an arm, hoisting up with a gentleness that felt like a silent apology for the chaos of the night before. My legs were shaky, and I walked like a newborn cub myself, but as we reached the mouth of the cave, I gasped.

The valley was a tapestry of vibrant, shocking green, just as I had rembered. The white of the snow had been replaced by the dark, rich brown earth, and the sound of the birds was so loud it was almost deafening.

They were celebrating the end of winter and the eve of spring.

Standing by the edge of the clearing was Damar. He was in his human form, wearing only a cloth tied at his waist, his back turned to . I could see the deep, red scratches I’d left. He held Fenric’s son in his right arm, and Noah’s daughter in his left arm, his long, silver hair caught in the first warm breeze of the year.

He turned around, and when his eyes t mine, he paused, like he had looked peace in the eye.

"Ari," he called, his voice clear and resonant as a soft smile spread on his lips.

I blushed.

My husband is so handso in the sun.

I leaned against Noah, watching Damar and the cubs squirm in his arms.

It was a cute and loving sight that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

"Okay," I whispered, a genuine smile finally breaking across my face and I closed my eyes. "I guess we can talk about those nas now."

Later, after taking the bath I desperately needed, I sat on the warm stone floor just at the cave’s entrance, the morning light spilling over my shoulders and filling with a warmth my body desperately needed.

My body was still screaming from Damar’s ’exuberant’ rut, and my waist felt like it was held together by prayer and stubbornness, but I ignored the ache.

This was more important.

I reached for the basket and, one by one, I set the cubs down on the furs in front of their fathers. I felt like a dealer laying out the most precious cards in the world.

"Alright," I said, leaning back as much as my sore muscles would allow. "Look at them. Really look at them. No more calling them ’Junior’ or ’Zebra’ or ’The Cutest One.’ They’ve walked, they’ve seen the sun and they have souls of their own now. So, it’s ti to give them an identity."

I looked from Noah to Fenric, and finally to Damar, whose erald eyes were now clear and profoundly present.

"I want you to give them nas," I whispered, my voice softening. "Not just nas that sound pretty, but nas that fit who they are. What do you feel when you look into their eyes right now?"

Silence fell on us, save for the soft thump-thump of tiny paws against the furs.

First, my eyes landed on the boy. He was currently trying to climb over Fenric’s massive knee, his ruby eyes bright with a stubborn, restless energy. He didn’t want to be held; he wanted to conquer the cave floor, starting from his father’s knee.

I chuckled.

Fenric reached down, his large hand hovering over the boy’s striped back. He watched the cub’s tireless struggle for a long mont.

"He doesn’t stop," Fenric murmured, a prideful smile tugging at his lips. "He has the fire of the mountain and the soul of a warrior who doesn’t know how to retreat."

He looked at , then back at his son. "Raiden," he said firmly. "It ans ’spirit of thunder.’ Because even when he was just a week old, his voice and his will shook this cave."

I smiled, watching little Raiden let out a tiny, triumphant growl as he finally made it over Fenric’s leg. "Raiden. It fits his temper."

And his stubbornness too.

Next was the first girl—Noah’s daughter. She was sitting perfectly still, her black fur sleek, watching the birds outside the entrance with a regal, calculating gaze. She wasn’t playing; she was observing.

Noah reached out, tracing the tiny black stripes hidden in her dark coat. "She isn’t like Raiden, though she’s still sowhat a troublemaker," he said softly, and I laughed. He got that right. "She has a quiet power and sees everything before she moves."

He looked into her black eyes, and for a second, it was like they were sharing a secret.

"Seraphina," he decided. "It’s the na for a fla that burns pure and steady. She’s my ’fire in the dark’."

His words made my heart lt. He was such a romantic, as much as he was a caring father.

Seraphina blinked, tilted her head, and then let out a soft, satisfied chuff.

Finally, we all turned to the last cub—the ’prettiest’ one, carrying pride and arrogance on her shoulder.

She was currently sitting between Damar’s new legs, her white fur with a few black stripes looking like spun silk. She wasn’t looking at the birds or trying to climb. She was looking at us—at the whole family—with an erald gaze so deep it felt like she was reading our thoughts.

Damar didn’t speak right away. He ran a long, pale finger over her scaled-fur back. He looked at her as if he were looking into a mirror of his own soul.

I wasn’t there to see how their first official eting was, but I was sure they had a staring contest. They were just that kind of characters.

"She is the calm after the storm," Damar whispered, his voice silken and lodic. "It seems like she carries the wisdom of the earth and the silence of the forest."

He picked her up, holding her close to his face.

"Lyra," he said, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. "Like the constellation that guides travelers ho. Because she was the star I followed while I was lost in the cold."

Now, this was enough to lt my heart completely.

So, it was decided. My children are Raiden, Seraphina, and Lyra.

I looked at my three little miracles, then at the three n who loved them—and —so fiercely that they could fight the world for our sakes.

The weight of winter was gone, replaced by the weight of these nas and the futures they carried.

"Raiden, Seraphina, Lyra," I repeated, my heart finally feeling full. "Welco to the world once again, little ones. And try not to break your mother too much more, okay?"

Noah laughed, and Damar reached over to pull into his side, while Fenric and Noah leaned in, creating a circle of warmth that finally felt permanent.

That’s why they say... There’s no place like ho.

And where my family is, is where my ho is.

I will treasure this mont and this family for as long as I live. And anyone who tires to threaten this peace... I opened my eyes, staring deadly into nothingness... I will make sure they et my claws.
