Luo Chao, sweating with embarrassnt, said: "Dad, I already have such a beautiful girlfriend. How could I possibly go ssing around?"
Lu Feng, still imposing, said: "Fine, give a reasonable explanation, or I'll break your legs."
"It's hard to explain over the phone. I'll tell you when I get back," Luo Chao said, hanging up after ensuring his parents knew he was safe.
Having not eaten since last night, Luo Chao felt his stomach churning. He quickly found a small restaurant, ordered a couple of dishes, and ate several bowls of rice.
After eating his fill, Luo Chao called Ning Wanxi: "Ning, are my parents nearby?"
"No!" Ning Wanxi's tone was sowhat cold, clearly upset that he hadn't returned ho last night.
It's understandable; even a fake wife deserves so respect. Leaving her alone, one would expect Ning Wanxi to be angry.
In a quiet voice, Luo Chao said: "Are you free? Could you drive over and pick up?"
"No ti!" Ning Wanxi hung up, leaving Luo Chao irritated. Good thing she's not his real wife, or he'd definitely lose years off his life!
However, Luo Chao knew well that Ning Wanxi was sharp-tongued but soft-hearted. Taxis wouldn't dare venture into the mountains as the roads were too dangerous and if anything happened, it wouldn't be worth the risk. So, without a car, Luo Chao would have to walk back which would take half the day.
Each household in the Lu Family's village owned a vehicle, at the very least a bicycle.
Thus, Luo Chao believed Ning Wanxi would eventually co pick him up; it was just a matter of ti. Wondering when Ning might arrive.
It's been a long ti since returning, so he decided to wander around. Strolling through the streets, he unexpectedly found himself at the entrance of a high school—Nanning Town's No. 1 High School, Luo Chao's alma mater.
He vaguely rembered walking into this high school for the first ti, carrying a backpack, and felt deeply nostalgic. Ti flies; six years had passed in the blink of an eye.
The gate of Nanning No. 1 High School was shut as today was Labor Day, and all the teachers and students were on holiday while Luo Chao wandered aimlessly around town.
"Luo Chao!" A captivating voice called out just then. Luo Chao looked up to see a stunning woman approaching. Her tight-fitting white t-shirt highlighted her slender waist, and her long white skirt added to her graceful figure. Her delicate, beautiful face was captivating, making Luo Chao's heart skip a beat as he smiled and said, "Shen Birong, what a coincidence, what are you doing here?"
Shen Birong looked at her captivating first love and said softly: "I'm back to visit my alma mater. Didn't expect to et you here. Are you here for the sa reason?"
Luo Chao smiled: "Kind of."
At this mont, Luo Chao was unsure how to face Shen Birong, his first love. His most profound mories of high school were the happy tis spent with her.
"Too bad the school gate is closed today. We have to wait for the guard to arrive to get in," Shen Birong said wistfully as she glanced at the closed gate.
Luo Chao had an idea and asked: "Do you want to go in now?"
"You're not planning to climb over the gate are you? There's a cara on top," Shen Birong said, noting the school walls were over two ters high. Luo Chao could climb, but she couldn't in her skirt.
Luo Chao smiled mysteriously: "Follow !" With that, he took her hand. Though a re handholding, Shen Birong's heart thumped wildly, her cheeks flushed.
Even though Luo Chao seed indifferent, he had no idea how much he was troubling Shen Birong.
Holding her hand, Luo Chao led her to a section of the school's eastern wall. Chuckling, he noticed a hole: "Didn't expect this dog hole was still here."
"It's called a dog hole. Do you really want to crawl through?" Shen Birong teased, glancing at him with such charm that Luo Chao was montarily dazzled.
"Ahem," Luo Chao coughed to cover his embarrassnt, but Shen Birong was secretly pleased he still found her attractive.
Luo Chao laughed awkwardly: "It's not like we haven't done this before. Let's go."
In his school-skipping days, Luo Chao often used this dog hole to sneak out. Remarkably, it was still there, stirring nostalgia.
Luo Chao crawled through the hole, yet Shen Birong, a model three-good student, had never skipped school nor crawled through a dog hole. Now grown up, she was a lady and felt embarrassed, but watching Luo Chao already through, she bit her lip and crawled with closed eyes.
Once inside, Shen Birong saw Luo Chao smiling at her, her cheeks burning, causing her to shyly bow her head while thinking: You instigated this and dare laugh at .
In the campus, they first saw a wooded area, perfect for cooling off during breaks. In high school, Luo Chao and Shen Birong loved coming here, surrounded by trees with ample shade. Their first kiss had been stolen by Luo Chao here; it was his first kiss too.
First love is always beautiful. Shen Birong gazed at the grove, imagining the young couple nervously but sweetly kissing behind a large tree. Her heart fluttering, she asked softly: "Luo Chao, do you rember here?"
Luo Chao nodded: "Yes, I rember!"
Shen Birong's face was crimson, whispering: "I'll never forget everything here."
Luo Chao didn't speak, instead moving forward swiftly, stopping suddenly at the biggest tree, carving a heart with their nas. What stirred him was on the outside of the heart were rows of small words.
Luo Chao, did you know? I miss you. I'll wait for you to return, May 1, 2010.
Luo Chao, it's my second ti here. I know you hate , but I want to wait for you, explain everything, do you still love ? May 1, 2011.
Luo Chao, three years passed by, how many three years do people have, but I'll wait for you, May 1, 2012.
Luo Chao, I want to find you, but don't know where to look. I'm afraid to ask at your ho. Hurry back, still loving you, Rongrong, May 1, 2013.
Luo Chao, it's been five years. I found a job downtown and am waiting for you. I believe we will et again, but I'm scared you're in a relationship or married. I love you, May 1, 2014.
Luo Chao read the rows of tiny words carved in the tree, eyes barely seeing. Wouldn't notice if vision wasn't sharp, as the little words were nearly mosquito-sized, maybe no one would ever notice. But with his keen observation, he saw them, staying serene outwardly but shaken inside, fists clenching, eyes glistening slightly.
