It's really strange that a plain-looking woman beca best friends with the school beauty. Ruan Qing would occasionally glance at Luo Chao, growing more curious about the relationship between this Luo Chao guy and Lanya, and how Lanya managed to bring him along.
"Zhan Fei, are we there yet?" Ruan Qing's face was a bit pale, seemingly unable to handle the bumpy mountain road, feeling a bit carsick, he said to the guy driving.
The guy with glasses nad Ye Bing checked his phone's navigation and said, "We should be there soon. Just hold on and don't puke in the car."
"Who says I'm going to puke," Ruan Qing said fiercely, "If I puke, I'll puke all over you!"
Ye Bing adjusted his glasses, then rolled his eyes, "If you can puke that far, go ahead, I'll catch it."
"Alright, stop ssing around," Lanya said irritably, "Since we're almost there, let's get ready. Who knows if there are any Yeren lurking in this Shennongjia nature reserve."
Yeren? Luo Chao was dumbfounded, saying in astonishnt, "Comrade Lanya, aren't you into archaeology? Why are you here to dig up so wild man?"
Everyone's gaze turned to Luo Chao, who had been silent all this ti. This gentleman seed out of place, and after gathering together for a while, he'd only said one sentence, which was quite discomforting to hear.
"What's wrong with this guy? He acts like such an idiot," Ye Bing whispered to Zhan Fei.
Zhan Fei nodded, "He's definitely an idiot."
"I say, who says archaeologists can't study wild n? Who knows, these wild n might have a history of hundreds of years," Ruan Qing gave Luo Chao an eye roll.
Lanya said he was really impressive, but Ruan Qing couldn't find anything impressive about him—just a good-looking guy with a possibly dull brain.
Luo Chao felt a bit helpless. He realized he had fallen into a big trap. He thought they were going to uncover so ancient tomb or site, but never expected to be researching wild n.
Lanya, fuming, said, "Luo Chao, you haven't been following the news recently, have you? Loads of trekkers coming to Shennongjia have claid to see Yeren footprints, and a few trekkers have disappeared supposedly eaten by wild n!"
Because of this news, the Shennongjia reserve was temporarily closed to trekkers, and yet, Lanya and the others decided to take a dangerous mountain road to get in.
"Let's hope it's not just so crazy streaker in the woods," Luo Chao said speechlessly. However, the thought of Lanya's words about disappearing trekkers stirred a bit of unease in him—could there really be wild n?
Luo Chao had been to the ends of the earth for years, and had encountered all kinds of dangers—like the Amazon Forest in Africa, where there really are cannibal tribes, and they're quite formidable. But wild n in Huaxia Country? That sounds a bit far-fetched.
Recent news reports are really misleading. They find barefoot footprints and imdiately think they're from wild n. Perhaps it's just so trekker who doesn't like wearing shoes? But I guess there's no trekker that weird.
Whether there really are wild n in the Shennongjia mountains, Luo Chao couldn't be a hundred percent sure. After all, Huaxia Country is vast, and this nature reserve spans several million square ters.
"Oops," everyone burst into laughter, and Lanya playfully hit him, "Luo Chao, if you don't say anything, will you die? If there's a lunatic in these woods, they'd have been eaten by the wild beasts long ago."
Luo Chao smacked his lips, "Let's hope so, otherwise it'd really blind my eyes."
This archaeological activity was organized by the handso Zhan Fei, and it seed Ruan Qing had quite a liking for him. She brought Lanya into the fold, possibly because Zhan Fei had a crush on the school beauty.
Luo Chao's snide remarks made the archaeology students a bit unhappy. The exploration hadn't even started, and Luo Chao was already throwing cold water on it. If it weren't for Lanya, Zhan Fei would have already kicked Luo Chao off the car.
"Look, there's a village ahead," Ye Bing pointed, and as they looked in his direction, there was indeed a dozen or so houses forming a small village on the mountainside. The village with its red bricks and broken tiles seed to have aged.
This isolated village was evidently backward, and now it was nearing sunset, a perfect ti to find a household to stay the night and have a good, restful sleep before they really entered the mountains to camp nervously.
The car drove slowly, and after another ten minutes, they arrived at the small village. At the village entrance, a few elderly won and n sat on small stools, curiously watching the car slowly approach.
A nearly 60-year-old woman wobbled toward the car, and the people in the car thought she wanted to ask sothing. However, as she ca in front, she showed no intention of stopping. Zhan Fei quickly braked and smoothly halted the car, but the old woman let out a loud scream, "Ow!" and slowly fell to the ground.
Now under the front of the car, Lanya and the others couldn't see her, but they clearly saw the car hadn't even touched her!
Scam! Everyone had the sa thought and inwardly gave a bitter smile. In this remote and impoverished place, encountering a scam like this was unbelievable.
Moreover, the old woman's performance was so clumsy and crude. Ye Fei blew a puff of air and leaned out to say, "Auntie, if you're going to act, at least make it believable!"
"Ow, ow," the old woman kept screaming, "You hit , you have to compensate, compensate!"
Such professional terms and shaless attitude—it's sothing you'd only see on TV. Luo Chao felt dizzy. This mountain village surely didn't have any television sets. Could it be that this woman was self-taught? That's impressive.
Not far away, the elderly won and n, with toothless grins, laughed in a creepy manner. Luo Chao felt this wasn't sothing easily resolved.
Everyone in the car got out, and Ye Bing stepped beside the lady, rolling his eyes, "Auntie, we have a dashcam, you know! So stop pretending!"
"What's a dashcam? I don't understand!" The auntie lay on the ground, still groaning in pain, "You hit , you must pay!"
Ruan Qing, with a hint of curiosity, said, "How much do you want?"
"Compensate ten thousand bucks, and that'll do," the old woman, eyes filled with greed, exclaid loudly.
Lanya and the group were stunned. They thought a few hundred bucks would be enough to settle this, considering how poor the people here were and how hard their lives seed. But the demand for ten thousand bucks angered Lanya, and with reddened cheeks, she said, "You might as well rob a bank; that would be quicker."
