The atmosphere in the Quinlan household was unusually heavy.
Ghania Quinlan had co ho crying until her eyes turned red, and even now, those eyes were still bloodshot as she sat there wiping away her tears.
Cindy Lawrence and Emilia Sullivan did nothing but repeatedly say such things as, "Impossible, it must be hype, a fake video."
Apart from these words, they could scarcely squeeze out anything else.
Jeff Quinlan’s facial hair had been growing wildly since he hadn’t had ti to shave recently, and his eyes were full of bloodshot vessels from days without sleep. Clutching his head, he felt an inexplicable rage.
He shouted at the two won in the house who were still chattering incessantly.
"Enough!"
"Our house is in crisis, and you’re still making a fuss here. What’s the use? Can all this noise solve anything?"
This year he had planned to capitalize on a flourishing career and move up even further, using the relationship with the Fisher family to step into the truly upper echelons.
But now it was all over.
Ever since they insisted on driving away the adopted girl in their family, he hadn’t had a smooth day.
At this mont, Jeff Quinlan’s eyes were bloodshot with fury as he glared at the three won in the house, unable to control his anger any longer as he hysterically accused them, "Do you still have the face to make a fuss here, one by one? What did I say at the beginning? I told you, even if Nathalie Quinlan isn’t our biological child, after raising her for more than a decade, if not blood ties, there’s still affection. Her finding her biological parents is a good thing; we don’t need to make our relationship so tense. We could have parted on good terms, and if she made sothing of herself in the future, we could consider it a good deed done."
"What did you say to then? You said her parents are poor folks from Hillwood, and if we don’t cut ties completely, who knows if they’d bring their whole family here to leech off us soday. And what happened? Are they really poor teachers from Hillwood? Can a Tsinghua University professor be called a poor teacher?!"
"And her cousin, the top star, do you know how much a top star can earn in a year? Do you realize how many important connections behind his fa we can’t normally access?"
"If you had listened to and given Nathalie so money to part on good terms, would we have been the laughingstock at No. 1 Middle School that day? You also said that the Tsinghua University professor ca because of Zayn Fisher, was that so? He is Nathalie’s biological father!"
Ghania’s eyes reddened when she heard this, and, biting her lip unwilling to accept it, she retorted, "Dad, how can you bla Zayn for this? Who knew that Nathalie’s dad was teaching at Tsinghua? Zayn just got a school award; we all thought the professor ca for him. Didn’t you think the sa? You used to praise your son-in-law in front of others."
Jeff Quinlan no longer had the composure that had co from living a life of privilege in recent years, almost spitting out saliva, "You’re an 18-year-old girl, whether you’ll get married or not is not even certain, yet you’re already calling him your son-in-law. Who taught you to be so shaless, not afraid of becoming a laughingstock once it gets out?"
Ghania had never been scolded so harshly by her father before.
She imdiately covered her face, tears of grievance falling steadily.
Emilia Sullivan, feeling sympathetic for her daughter, promptly embraced her and, looking up unhappily at the man who was still in a rage, said, "Why are you taking your temper out on your daughter! Zayn and Ghania have a stable relationship; they are definitely going to get married in the future. She didn’t say anything wrong."
"Ha, keep dreaming," Jeff Quinlan said as his anger surged, his mouth almost blistering. Seeing that both his wife and daughter were still not clear-headed, he couldn’t bear to continue.
Who are the Fisher family, anyway? Even in past years, when their family fared well, the Fishers still looked down on Ghania. Now that their family’s greatest support, the Pinecone Group, had collapsed, the Fishers were even less likely to take Ghania seriously.
In the end, it might turn out to be a lot of effort for nothing, all in vain!
