Nathalie Quinlan moved the phone away, squinted her eyes to look at the date on the phone.
October 18th.
Not the 19th.
She put the phone back to her ear again, her eyes seed to flicker with light, half of her face hidden in the shadows of the sunlight, making it hard to read her emotions: "Didn’t you say you’d co back on the 19th?"
A soft chuckle ca from the other end of the phone, enchanting and captivating: "I pulled an all-nighter last night, got things done early, so I ca back ahead of schedule."
Nathalie, feeling a bit uneasy from his flirtation, shifted her gaze, knowing that he was just on a phone call, not actually there.
She cald herself down and asked, "Are you at the airport?"
When Audrick Zachmann called her, Nathalie had just finished showering.
She received a call from Audrick telling her that Riandy Heburn had rushed to the hospital, so she hurried over without bringing anything.
She only had her phone with her.
With her phone in one hand, she reached into her pocket with the other hand, her bright eyes looking at the cars on the road, walking towards the roadside.
"Which terminal are you at? I’ll take a cab over imdiately."
Sadam Vinson saw her about to leave, paused, and shouted, "Nathalie, where are you going?"
Nathalie’s footsteps paused montarily, pondering how to explain to him.
The man’s clear and gentle voice ca again from the phone: "I’ve already left the airport, heading to the Yancey Family to handle so matters."
Nathalie had originally spotted a taxi and was about to wave it down, but stopped, raising her eyebrows, not understanding the purpose of his call.
Why call if he’s not asking to be picked up?
She was pondering this.
Amadeus Yancey’s voice was unhurried and calm, "As soon as the airplane landed, I wanted to call you, but I figured I would go to the Yancey Family first and after finishing there, co see you. That was the plan initially, but I suddenly wanted to hear your voice..."
He seed to sigh softly, with a gentle tenderness: "Nathalie, what should I do? I kind of miss you."
Nathalie’s heart suddenly sped up, as if there were small drums beating rapidly in her chest. She didn’t know how to respond.
Fortunately, Amadeus knew when to stop, swiftly easing his tone: "I’m here. Where are you? I’ll co to pick you up once I’m done."
Nathalie glanced back at the hospital, speaking casually: "City Hospital One."
"OK," Amadeus responded with an "Mm," then said, "I’ll co get you later."
Nathalie murmured in agreent, then hung up the phone.
She tucked the phone back into her pocket, turned around, facing Sadam Vinson, with a playful yet rebellious look on her face, lazily saying, "The birthday party you ntioned, I won’t be going. I’ll send Govert Griffin a red envelope and wish him a happy birthday for ."
Sadam Vinson gave her a knowing look: "What about tonight..."
"I’m eting soone," Nathalie had ntioned to Alfred Garland before that she’d treat him to dinner when he returned.
With Amadeus back, Alfred was surely back as well.
She would probably dine outside tonight.
Sadam had earlier wanted to ask who she was eting, but then rembered the phone call he had overheard, recognizing the voice on the line even though it had been a bit unclear – it was clearly Amadeus.
He instantly felt like he had been fed a mouthful of dog food!
A bit hurt inside.
But his ability to self-regulate was good, comforting himself that aside from Amadeus, he seed surrounded by single dogs, so it wasn’t a big deal.
Sadam regained his composure, and facing Nathalie again, he calmly said, "Alright, I’ll pass the ssage along for you."
