"Dudu dudu..."
The phone rang seven or eight tis without an answer.
Zayn Fisher pursed his thin lips, his thick eyebrows knotted in frustration, it was obvious from the tight lines of his clenched jaw how unsettled he was feeling at the mont.
"...I’m sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
No answer?
In the past, he might not have cared, if nobody answered, then nobody answered.
Ever since Ghania Quinlan went to Beijing, she had been busy with a heavy academic workload, usually unable to ssage or call him until night.
But this ti, Zayn’s heart felt like it was being tightly bound by an invisible shackle, the more he couldn’t get through to Ghania, the more irritated he beca.
So he didn’t wait for her to return his call as he would have done before.
Almost imdiately, he dialed Ghania’s phone number again.
"Dudu dudu..." This ti, after seven or eight rings, the call connected quickly.
The girl’s voice was tender and charming, filled with reproach and urgency, as she said, "Hello? Zayn? Hold on a second, I’m still in class. I’ll call you back after it’s over."
Her voice was like a gentle breeze passing through.
Zayn’s heated emotions slightly cald, but his expression remained stern. Before she could hang up the phone, he said in a deep voice, "I have sothing important to ask you."
"But..." Ghania looked back at Ivy Wilmar, who was waiting for her to return and continue, her face showing conflict and hesitation. In the end, she still made a choice, "Go ahead, Zayn."
After speaking, she added anxiously, "I still have to go to my aunt’s to practice piano, please try to be quick, I will call you back tonight."
Zayn’s expression of anger eased sowhat as he gripped the glass on the edge of the table, "Do you know about Nathalie being recomnded for Tsinghua University?"
Ghania’s heart skipped a beat, she bit her lower lip so hard she almost broke the skin, "Nathalie... she’s been recomnded for Tsinghua University?"
Had that professor from Tsinghua really taken a liking to Nathalie that day?
But she clearly rembered her uncle ntioning that Nathalie was going to take part in the independent enrolnt exams.
That ant after they left, Professor Wafford from Tsinghua hadn’t taken a liking to Nathalie after all, otherwise, why would Nathalie bother with the independent enrolnt exams if she could just go straight into the clinical program?
In a short ti, Ghania pondered over a lot, but what weighed on her the most was an uncontrollable jealousy surging and clinging to her heart, souring her mood instantly.
"You didn’t know?"
Ghania’s mind was filled with the matter of Nathalie’s recomndation, her response to him was absent-minded, "I, I didn’t know."
Zayn’s heart sank, Freddy Cagwin’s mocking words coming to mind, his face growing embarrassed, his persistence not fading as he asked again, "You really didn’t know?"
Ghania clenched her phone tightly, feeling vaguely that sothing was off, yet she couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was. Biting her lip, she spoke softly, "I didn’t know. I’ve co to Beijing with my aunt and uncle a month ago, I’ve been concentrating on my studies and haven’t been paying attention to the news from McKinney."
Zayn of course knew she had been in Beijing with her family for a month, but what was said did not pertain to what happened after she went to Beijing. Amadeus Yancey made it very clear that when the professor from Tsinghua ca to scout Nathalie, she was there at the scene!
"I thought you knew..." Zayn’s heart continued to sink, his hand gripping the cup turned white at the knuckles, filled with disappointnt.
Ghania failed to detect the disappointnt in his tone and thought he was just casually asking. Without thinking, she denied again, "I didn’t know."
