Outside, Juan Wilmar adjusted the suit on his body, put on a solemn face, and strode confidently inside. His steps were so large and quick that he even left his assistant behind as he marched in.
Simon Cadwell was still contemplating whether he should go out to greet the Education Bureau’s Mr. Wilmar, but in the blink of an eye, the man was already in front of him.
"Mr. Cadwell, it’s been a long ti," Juan Wilmar spoke with a deep voice. He was of the Wilmar Family’s signature stature, probably in his early thirties, dressed in formal attire, with a face that had deep-set features, making him look quite young.
But people with backgrounds in Beijing, like Juan Wilmar who had family connections, generally rose quickly. In a few years, they would climb another step, and by about fifty, they could reach a fairly high position.
When Simon saw him, he dared not relax. He walked over and shook his hand, greeting him politely, "Mr. Wilmar, it’s been a long ti. You still look as well as ever."
After speaking, he feigned ignorance and laughed, "By the way, Mr. Wilmar, what brings you here so late?"
Juan Wilmar narrowed his eyes, which were quite deep set, and his penetrating gaze landed on Simon. He pursed his lips and didn’t fall for his act, cutting straight to the point, "I had just finished a eting when I heard that Jecksen had been attacked. I ca to see how you are handling it."
Juan Wilmar was, after all, a mber of the Wilmar Family. Although he was not from the direct line of descent, he was still connected by blood. His grandfather and Jecksen’s grandfather were brothers; put simply, Jecksen was his cousin.
He certainly disapproved of his cousin’s spoiled rich kid behavior and felt his aunt had spoiled him too much, and it was about ti he was put in his place.
But family is family, after all. Punishing one’s own child behind closed doors is one thing, but it is entirely different when the child is assaulted by soone else.
So, after receiving Ivy’s phone call, he rushed over; not for anything, but to seek justice for Jecksen.
According to Ivy, this matter should be dealt with severely.
He agreed with that.
No matter what, Jecksen had been walking on the street and was attacked for no reason. If the perpetrators were not punished severely, where would the Wilmar Family’s face go?
"So, have the results co out?" he asked as he walked toward the sofa.
Listening to his question, laden with an undertone of authority, Simon followed with difficulty, signaled for soone to bring over a cup of tea, and with a tight-lipped smile, he softly said, "Mr. Wilmar, this matter is sowhat complex; we still need to conduct a thorough investigation."
"What else is there to investigate?" Juan, who had been drinking tea, put down his teacup with a snap, clearly displeased, "That girl called Nathalie Quinlan assaulted soone in public, and Jecksen is still in City Hospital. For such a socially detrintal incident, serious actions should be taken. She’s of age, isn’t she? I looked at her file before I ca, and she’s just turned 18, a full-fledged adult responsible for her actions. Mr. Cadwell, I don’t need to remind you of the obvious intentional injury charge, do I?"
His tone carried the rebuke of a superior to his subordinates. In the past, soone astute and perspicacious like Simon, who had climbed to his current position through his wits, would have known how to handle this without being told. But the situation was much more complex than it appeared on the surface.
Ms. Quinlan’s background was not shallower than that of Jecksen.
However, within a few short seconds of contemplation, Simon had already decided which side to take.
Facing Juan’s probing, he changed his initial polite attitude, gradually wiped the smile off his face, and looked straight into Juan’s eyes. He spoke slowly, "Mr. Wilmar, I’ve just received the injury assessnt results from City Hospital stating that Mr. Wilmar only suffered minor injuries."
