No. 1 Middle School Principal’s office was overcrowded.
Nearly every first-tier university had gathered at No. 1 Middle School, with recruitnt officers from dozens of schools cramming the office so tightly there was hardly room to move.
The Director of Instruction and the Principal both were too busy to attend to everyone.
Finding a brief respite amidst the chaos, Mr. Jones hurriedly asked, "Has Nathalie Quinlan not arrived at the school yet?"
The Director of Instruction, exhausted as well, shook his head, "She hasn’t co."
He wiped the sweat from his forehead with a helpless expression and said quietly, "I arranged with the head teacher of Class A, Mr. Sullivan, to contact Student Quinlan. If she arrives, he’ll give a phone call, but since I haven’t received a phone call yet, she must not be here."
He had thought about calling Nathalie Quinlan himself to hurry her along.
But according to what the aggressive university recruiters said, it seed that Nathalie had set up a call block; unknown phone numbers couldn’t get through.
He was willing but powerless!
Mr. Jones fell silent for a mont, evidently thinking of sothing; he looked up towards the packed corridor outside the office and lowered his voice, "Do you know how many schools ca this ti?"
"I didn’t take count, but schools have been arriving since morning. I’ve received at least twenty myself, and there are others you’ve t with. All together, probably at least thirty or forty schools!"
The Director of Instruction had been busy all morning; his back was covered with sweat from the heat, fatigue, and, not to ntion, uncontainable excitent and thrill.
Like the Principal, he looked at the recruiters outside the office, busily making phone calls and checking information, and whispered, "Schools are still arriving one after another, all first-tier universities. Calypso University, Zendria University, Southern University are also among them... Essentially, the top fifty nationally ranked schools have co. The rest... I think it’s not that they didn’t want to co but, fearing a lack of competitiveness, they chose not to."
"This is the first ti in the decades since No. 1 Middle School was established that hundreds of schools vied for a single student. When Zayn Fisher scored as the top student in McKinney, it wasn’t this exaggerated."
That year, Zayn ranked first in McKinney and was just ten points behind the top scoring student in the province; many schools also ca to No. 1 Middle School to recruit him.
But the scene was never as grand as this ti.
There were only seven or eight schools at most.
Tsinghua University, Southern University, Calypso University... none of the institutions well above the first-line tier ca.
Only the local first-tier universities showed up.
And occasionally one or two more prestigious ones.
Even so, at that ti, it caused quite a sensation; other schools in McKinney were green with envy.
This ti, not only did three or four dozen high schools show up, including even the top five nationally ranked institutions, other schools would drool with envy if they knew about it.
Having such an exceptional student from their own school made the Director of Instruction particularly proud. He laughed and said, "Such a spectacle, this is truly the first ti in my life I’ve seen it. It’s like competing for the Top Scholar in College Entrance Examination, isn’t it?"
Mr. Jones was holding a thermos, and after a busy morning, he finally found a chance to twist off the lid for a sip of water. But upon hearing the words, he got an extravagant scald on his mouth— he gasped in pain and moved the thermos away, "I think even the Top Scholar in College Entrance Examination never had such fanfare!"
The Director of Instruction turned his head, eyes sparkling as he looked at him.
Unconsciously straightening his back, he put the thermos to his lips again. This ti he was wiser, blowing on it, waiting for the water to cool down before tentatively taking a sip.
