Taking a pulse with the patient either sitting or standing doesn’t really affect the process.
Nathalie Quinlan narrowed her eyes slightly and then cocked her head, adding, "Taking a pulse requires ti. If you’re too tired to stand, you can find a place to sit down."
"Alright, I’ll find a place to sit."
Master Cadmus made no delay, found a seat nearby, sat down, and stretched out his left hand on the table, rolling up his sleeve.
"Little girl, your turn."
"Um."
Nathalie Quinlan walked over, sat opposite him, extended her two slender and beautiful fingers onto his wrist, lowered her eyelashes, and quietly took his pulse.
Outside the laboratory, everyone was very quiet, even their breathing beca tense—no one said you couldn’t talk while taking a pulse, but nobody was in a mood to make a noise at this mont.
Alfred Garland was quite nervous. After waiting several minutes and seeing the girl not speaking, his expression grew more tense, and he couldn’t help but ask, "Miss Quinlan, how is Master Cadmus’s condition?"
Phoebe Hoffman curled her lips downward, looking extrely dismissive.
Brian Bonette and the others from The Ninth Institute were indeed extrely nervous, looking instinctively at the girl with lowered eyelashes, not knowing if she was diagnosing or if she hadn’t started yet.
They didn’t have much faith in Nathalie Quinlan, but now that it had co to this point, they still hoped Nathalie Quinlan could cure Master Cadmus’s stubborn illness.
Nathalie Quinlan shifted her posture, switched to her other hand and placed it again on Master Cadmus’s wrist. After another minute, she lifted her head, her pupils very black and bright as she looked at the old man, "Have you recently experienced headaches accompanied by nausea and vomiting?"
"Huh, you looked for so long just to co up with that? Don’t all migraines include these symptoms?" Phoebe Hoffman couldn’t help retorting.
Nathalie Quinlan ignored her, continuing to look at Master Cadmus who had not yet recovered from his astonishnt, "Your headaches mainly occur in areas including the forehead, temples, crown, occiput and neck. Often the pain is dull, with sensations of pressure and tightness around the head, right?"
Master Cadmus showed a look of surprise and for the first ti, looked at her wide-eyed, "Young girl, how do you know?"
He had also consulted Adelle Wafford, who, as a Western dicine practitioner, didn’t use pulse diagnosis; she started by listening to his own description of symptoms.
After listening, she had a nurse take him for imaging. After his brain CT scan results ca back, she spoke of a lot of academic terms, prescribed so dications, and that was it.
The things Adelle Wafford said that day were not as specific as what Nathalie Quinlan had just ntioned.
Nathalie Quinlan lifted the tips of her eyes, smiled wickedly, "By observing the pulse."
"Your pulse is weak and slippery; liver and gall bladder obstruction, weak spleen and stomach, the pulse presents a waveform, with large and slow fluctuations. In Chinese dicine, this type of pulse suggests chronic poor rest leading to significant internal dampness and insufficient qi and blood."
Master Cadmus listened until he was dizzy and didn’t quite understand.
Nathalie Quinlan just answered his previous question; she hadn’t intended to popularize Chinese dicine pulse diagnosis to everyone comprehensively. After finishing, she raised her eyebrows and continued, "Does the vomiting or dizziness occur when you are under strong light and have been working continuously?"
Brian Bonette saw Master Cadmus reveal a surprised expression again, and beca even more astonished, "How do you know that? Is this also discerned from observing my pulse?"
Nathalie Quinlan withdrew her hand, laughed again—a provocative and captivating laugh that made it hard for people to look away from her.
Her voice was leisurely and sowhat hoarse.
"Not this ti. This has nothing to do with the pulse. I judge that you have tension-type headaches, a kind of migraine that can be worsened by exposure to light and sound."
