Madam Song respectfully saw Song Ci off onto the carriage and watched it disappear into the distance before turning back to the main courtyard.
Sitting inside, she sat blankly on the Arhat bed, suddenly sweeping the teacup onto the floor.
Seeing this, Nanny Fang instructed soone to clean it up, replaced it with a new cup of tea, dismissed the servant girls, and stood in front of Madam Song herself.
"Nanny, she just scolded , saying I’ve lost my mind. Nanny, was I wrong?" Madam Song looked at Nanny Fang, sowhat dissatisfied. "In the past, I tolerated it. Now, despite being an Imperial Decree rank, do I still have to endure? Until when must I endure? I planned for my daughter to gain prestige, hoping she could marry a good family. Was I wrong? She doesn’t have a daughter, how could she understand a mother’s heart?"
Madam Song was sowhat unconvinced.
Nanny Fang said, "My dear Madam, you are planning for the Second Miss, naturally you are not wrong."
"Yes, I was just thinking of Qi’er. I rely wanted her to take Qi’er into the palace to et the Empress Dowager, and she gave a whole lecture. I had no idea my mother-in-law knew so much reasoning." Madam Song vented her grievances, spitting out the words that Song Ci had reprimanded her with.
Nanny Fang knew that she couldn’t stop her at this mont, otherwise, with the grievance bottled up, it would be even harder to pass.
After a cup of tea, Madam Song finally stopped her complaints, taking two more sips of tea.
"Everything I do is for Qi’er, not for anything else. Since her relationship with the Empress Dowager is good, can’t she just lift up her granddaughter a little? Qi’er is her legitimate granddaughter, her own. I know, she’s actually indifferent towards Qi’er, blaming for having two daughters consecutively back then, venting her grievances on Qi’er." As Madam Song recalled the past, she felt a little aggrieved.
Nanny Fang said, "Madam, those words are sowhat blaming the wrong person. It’s true that the Lady prefers grandsons, but as for the Second Miss, though not as doting as she is with the Eldest Miss, she has never been short of any rewards. Madam, all ten fingers are of different lengths, and this preference for one grandchild over another must exist. They say the eldest and youngest are most cherished, while the one in the middle is likened to grass."
Madam Song retorted, "So what’s wrong with planning more for Qi’er?"
"I believe that the Lady’s words are not unfounded. She is the matriarch, naturally concerned about the entire Song Family. Madam, if the Song Family is stable, everyone in this house can be stable. The Pri Minister has just been promoted, and it’s been less than two months. I’m not very knowledgeable, but I do know that with the Pri Minister’s age, there are naturally many who are unconvinced."
Madam Song fell silent.

Madam Song pouted: "Would she?"
On the carriage heading to the Imperial Palace, Song Ci sneezed and said, "I know for sure, the Guo clan will talk behind my back, she’s just not convinced I reprimanded her. But Palace Nanny, was I wrong to scold? The heights are perilous, why doesn’t she consider how strong the wind is at the mountain peak, standing there flaunting, when a gust cos, it’s over!"
Keeping a low profile and remaining in a calm state is the way to stay steady; temporary triumphs bring fleeting joy, but constant triumphs bring continuous joy!
