Jeanette Kensington shot her a cool glance and said with a smile, "You’ll find out soon enough."

Naomi Kenway saw right through the trap Jeanette Kensington was setting. "Since you’re so certain I’m going to win, why don’t you just skip the equestrian event? What’s the point of wasting your ti for nothing?"

"That may be so, but I’m definitely still competing. I don’t want to have any regrets. Win or lose, I’m just here to enjoy the process. Nothing else matters."

"Fine," Naomi Kenway said with a nod. "Then you’d better keep your eyes peeled during the race. Watch closely and see exactly how I beat you."

Seeing Naomi Kenway’s confident expression, as if victory was already in her grasp, Jeanette Kensington felt a sudden unease. She blurted out, "What, you know how to ride?"

"That’s a funny question, Miss Kensington. You’ve already declared the champion, yet you don’t even know if I can ride a horse?"

Naomi Kenway’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Jeanette Kensington knew she had misspoken. "It was just a slip of the tongue. I ant that I was surprised by your sudden confidence. It just caught off guard, that’s all."

"A pack of lies." With that, Naomi Kenway turned and walked away.

The equestrian competition began with the Moms’ Group.

Naomi Kenway waved off the staff mber offering to help her. She placed her foot in the stirrup and swung herself onto the horse with a single, clean, and stylish movent.

This wasn’t Naomi Kenway trying to show off; proper form was required when filming riding scenes on set.

Cheers erupted from the crowd, and Naomi Kenway waved to them.

With the sharp blast of a whistle,

Naomi Kenway shot forward on her horse like an arrow loosed from a bow, quickly leaving all the other contestants behind.

Jeanette Kensington watched Naomi Kenway’s retreating figure in disbelief, then tightened her grip on the reins and spurred her horse in pursuit.

The course was a two-hundred-ter track, and the winner would be the first to complete two laps.

Jeanette Kensington was an excellent rider herself. She gradually closed the distance on Naomi Kenway, leaving the other riders far behind them.

As they neared the end of the final lap with the finish line in sight, Jeanette Kensington, unwilling to accept defeat, fiercely cracked her whip to urge her horse on faster.

Suddenly, the horse let out a pained whinny and reared up, nearly throwing Jeanette Kensington off. Fortunately, she managed to keep a death grip on the reins.

"Why have you stopped? Go! Run!"

Jeanette Kensington cracked the whip viciously twice more, but this only seed to drive the horse into a frenzy. It spun around and started galloping back toward the starting line.

At the sa ti, a bell rang, announcing the winner.

Jeanette Kensington’s horse grew even more frantic, breaking into a wild gallop. In the end, it was Almur who managed to rescue her.

After calming the horse, Almur turned to her. "Are you all right?"

Jeanette Kensington clutched her chest, her heart still pounding with fear. She saw that many of the caran, who had been left behind by the race, were now running toward her.

"I could have won, but this horse of yours is insane." She frowned at the now-calming animal. "You’d better get it checked out. I think there’s sothing seriously wrong with it."

"There’s nothing wrong with him," Almur said, looking sympathetically at the whimpering brown horse. "You were too rough. Our horses here are very intelligent; such brutal treatnt will only agitate them. Next ti, perhaps you could try a gentler approach."

Jeanette Kensington was utterly incredulous.

After the race, Jeanette Kensington walked back to where the main group was gathered.

Caleb Bishop ca over. "Are you all right?"

Jeanette Kensington put on a smile for Caleb Bishop. "I’m fine. That crazy horse is under control now. It all just happened so suddenly... I’m afraid I’ll be in last place now..."

Her head drooped dejectedly as she spoke.

"It’s not your fault," Caleb Bishop said.

Chelsea Raines, who had co in second, was furious about not winning. She directed her ire at Jeanette Kensington. "Your prediction was spot on. Naomi Kenway really did win."

At this, Jeanette Kensington’s expression turned cold, and she could no longer force a smile.

The Dads’ Group equestrian competition went smoothly, with Ethan Shaw taking an early lead and winning first place.

Naomi Kenway only snapped out of her daze when Ethan Shaw walked up to her. Her mind couldn’t help but replay the image of his dashing, gallant figure as he rode.

Whether it was wrestling or riding, this side of Ethan Shaw was so different from what she was used to that she was montarily stunned.

Jeanette Kensington didn’t stay discouraged for long. The next competition was painting. She herself had studied traditional painting for several years and was quite skilled. Moreover, painting was Caleb Bishop’s greatest strength. The only problem was that the competition required the entire family to paint together...

Jeanette Kensington looked at Penny Morgan. "Penny, do you know how to draw?"

Penny Morgan shook her head, then nodded. "I can draw a little bunny..."

’A little bunny? What good is that?’

Jeanette Kensington scrutinized Penny Morgan, growing more and more convinced that a child her age couldn’t possibly be any good at painting. ’She’ll probably drag and Caleb Bishop down...’

With that thought, a hint of disdain crept into her eyes.

"Penny, listen to Mommy. How about this... while Mommy and Daddy are painting, you can just stand to the side and cheer for us, okay?"

She phrased it like a suggestion, but her tone left no room for argunt.

Caleb Bishop frowned slightly.

Penny Morgan fidgeted with her hands. "But... I want to paint, too. Can’t I paint with you? Didn’t they say we’re supposed to paint together? Why are you leaving out?"

As Penny Morgan spoke, big tears started to fall. She choked back sobs, her delicate, doll-like face turning red.

"No, don’t cry. Listen to . We’re only doing this for the competition. Penny wants the big house, right? Mommy rembers you wanted Room Number Four, don’t you?"

It took a great deal of effort for Jeanette Kensington to steel herself to take Penny Morgan’s arm. Looking at the little girl’s face, which bore a slight resemblance to Naomi Kenway’s, all she felt was disgust.

"No..." Penny Morgan shook her head, insisting, "I want to paint, too... Penny wants to paint..."

"But..."

"That’s enough," Caleb Bishop couldn’t help but cut her off. He looked at Penny Morgan, his eyes full of sympathy. "If she wants to paint, let her paint. I’ll just sit out if I have to."

"What?" Jeanette Kensington’s eyes widened. "You know that’s not what I ant..."

Caleb Bishop had already picked up Penny Morgan, patting her back soothingly. "It’s okay, don’t cry, don’t cry..."

A sour feeling welled up inside Jeanette Kensington at the sight. Every ti she saw Caleb Bishop being kind to Penny Morgan, it felt like a needle piercing her heart.

’Of all the people to look like, why did it have to be Naomi Kenway? How could she not be an eyesore?’

Jeanette Kensington walked over and took Caleb Bishop’s arm, asking casually, "You two get along so well. I can’t believe you’re already like a real father and daughter after less than a day."

"I rember you don’t like children. I’ve told you many tis that I want to get married and have kids, but you always said they were noisy and annoying and would turn the house upside down. So... why are you so fond of Penny?"
