The way down the secret entrance was illuminated by lights that were attached on either side of the passage.
Sasha sohow managed to stay calm, despite the eeriness of her surroundings.
But her worries were soon resolved, as she had reached the end of the passage.
Stepping onto the hard floor below, a single tallic door greeted her.
As she raised her hand to knock on the door, it automatically opened before she could do anything on her side.
Sasha’s eyes widened for a mont, as the chanism took her by surprise.
But she quickly composed herself, as the room behind the door greeted her with its bright yet warm light.
"Co in, little one."
A slightly aged voice called out to Sasha as she entered the room.
The first one to catch her eye was the chief in his usual formal attire.
Sasha bowed her head slightly while greeting the man who was in charge of the base here.
The chief motioned for her to sit on the sofa to his right, as another man sat comfortably just opposite him, on a sofa that was noticeably larger than the rest.
"You wanted to et , Miss Sasha?"
Sasha had just made herself comfortable on the sofa when a voice questioned her from the left.
Sasha turned to look at the man who appeared to be in his twenties or maybe thirties... as his face looked young, but he gave the vibes of soone who was already past his pri.
"Yes, um..."
"You may call Remzi."
Standing up from his seat, Remzi extended his hand forward.
Sasha shook his hand, as her mind processed the na. Though Sasha wasn’t the most knowledgeable person out there, she had still heard the na sowhere.
"He is the sa Remzi whose na is famous among the authorities."
"Ah... Yes, I had heard it in the news, though I couldn’t rember your face."
Sasha bowed slightly in apology, to which Remzi just smiled.
"I don’t make many public appearances, so it’s easy to forget my face. Still, I am honoured that a beauty like you rembers my humble na."
Remzi made a polite bow of his own, though the extent of truth behind his words could be debated.
"Let’s get to the point, shall we?"
The chief interrupted the theatrics before him, making Remzi give an amused smile in return.
"So, Miss Sasha, please do tell , how can I be of help to you?"
Remzi’s voice was far softer than before, making Sasha feel like listening to it again.
But she had her priorities set, so without wasting any ti, she coughed slightly to quickly compose herself.
"That... I heard that you were here to help with the investigations, so I wanted to know if there had been any leads, and what the upper managent of the authorities has decided to do, since no visible progress has been made on the case."
Sasha spoke as her eyes involuntarily shifted to the chief, who didn’t react in any way.
After all, it was the truth.
Even after having so much manpower under them, the Authorities were unable to find anything about the criminals.
"Hmm... I get that you are anxious about the case, but you don’t have to worry much. The best people in this field are currently behind those criminals, and soon they will be caught—I can surely assure you of that."
Remzi smiled warmly at Sasha, which made her feel like every problem had been solved on its own.
"So, Sir—"
"Just call Remzi. I don’t care for such formalities."
At Remzi’s assurance, Sasha slightly nodded her head.
"Um... So R-Remzi, are you personally going to investigate too?"
"Who, ? Well... I was planning to. Just reading the reports on the attack and whatever had happened to individuals like you has filled my heart with imnse pain. I can’t even imagine the suffering that you might have gone through."
Sasha’s expression fell as Remzi ntioned her, though she managed to hide it.
"Actually, I had arrived in the city just monts after the criminals had run away. If only I had arrived monts earlier, I could have prevented everything. For that, I really must apologize to you."
Remzi bowed his head slowly, letting every person in the room witness his act.
"No, no! Please, don’t apologize. Your words are enough for ."
Sasha raised her voice.
"If you say so."
After pausing for a mont with his head bowed, Remzi quickly got back into his previous position.
"And there’s another request that I wanted to make."
Sasha spoke awkwardly, as it was becoming difficult for her to express her thoughts.
"Yes?"
"Could I... maybe... join you in the investigation?"
"..."
"..."
"I won’t speak to anyone else about it, I promise! And also, I won’t interfere with your work in any way. Just, please allow !"
This ti, it was Sasha who bowed her head before Remzi.
The chief and Remzi just watched the girl before them.
Involving soone other than those from the Authorities in official investigations was against the rules, as it could lead to many problems, including the leakage of confidential information.
But...
Sasha, being one of the surviving victims, indeed had a little right over knowing what was going on in the investigation.
The chief looked at Remzi, as despite being the head of the base here, Remzi was ranked much higher than him.
Remzi didn’t reply imdiately, as he debated the choices in his mind.
Sasha didn’t interrupt him, as her only hope was to get at least a little involvent in catching those vile scums.
She wanted to witness everything with her own eyes.
"I can permit you to tag along with during the investigation, but there are so conditions that you may have to fulfil."
"Tell ?"
Sasha’s eyes brightened in delight.
"Hmm... As you know, there are several allegations and rumours that Arnold Levaith, the brother of the current Duke Levaith, was present at the scene but chose not to interfere, resulting in the mass slaughter at the auction house. Would you be able to testify to any of those rumours?"
Sasha thought for a mont, processing the words.
