Around fifteen minutes had passed, yet there were no signs of the eting being over.
Being the patient person that I was... I waited for the disciplinary committee head to get over with her business.
Though the ti spent wasn’t boring, as the poor senior was there to accompany .
Looking at his narrow eyes, I couldn’t help but comnd him.
This guy... he was quite good, considering the background he had co from.
A commoner being a mber of the disciplinary committee wasn’t a small feat to achieve.
Though that was the extent of his abilities.
"Huh? Y-Yes. Okay."
Hm?
The senior fumbled over his device, though he managed to communicate at the end.
As the communication from the other end was cut off, the senior looked towards while giving a light smile that felt a little awkward at the sa ti.
"The eting is over. I had been asked to—"
"That’s good enough."
Patting his shoulders, I got up from my seat before walking towards the student council room.
This ti, I gently pushed the door open.
Though I was a confident person, that didn’t an that I liked unnecessary attention towards .
Walking in, the majority of the students had dispersed to their respective committee rooms, while so sat in the general room, discussing everything that had happened in the eting and carrying out the orders relayed to them.
Sweeping my gaze once across the mini hall, I began walking towards the direction of the room allocated to the disciplinary committee.
"This way."
Though a girl appeared out of nowhere and pointed to the sa room that I was headed towards.
"What is it?"
Seeing standing at the sa place looking at her, the girl narrowed her eyes before closing them.
"The committee head is waiting for you in this room, so please walk this way."
The girl had surprisingly lowered the tone of her voice, making give an amused smile.
"I wasn’t offended."
At my words, the girl frowned again.
"Then—"
"There’s a signboard attached to the door of the room."
I pointed towards the letters displayed on the door.
The girl, following my direction, looked at the door, and then—
"My bad."
She gave a faint smile that looked like it was her way of containing the embarrassnt that any sane person should have been suffering at the mont.
"You should always be aware of your surroundings... Miss Ana."
"Huh?"
Not expecting to call her by na, Ana was startled at first, though she quickly managed to compose herself.
Not waiting for Ana to once again guide , I walked towards the room before opening the door and stepping in.
I could sense Ana following from behind.
Hm?
The room was quite small for the office of a committee head, though I wasn’t one to discriminate.
"Welco."
A soft yet firm feminine voice made focus my attention on the girl sitting before , with a small table in between us.
"Your subordinates aren’t the most versed in welcoming soone."
I spoke while turning my attention to Ana, who, after entering the room, imdiately headed towards Ashlyn before taking a seat beside her.
"Do you have a problem with that?"
Just as Ashlyn turned to give Ana a questioning look, the latter, raising her brow, looked at him with a slight frown.
She was quite a quick one to change her personality midway.
"I do."
"..."
I an... maybe I did.
"My apologies if she did sothing to offend you. Ana can be quite absent-minded at tis."
"I wasn’t—"
"I can see that."
Going along with the flow, I took a seat on the chair that was placed just opposite of where Ashlyn sat.
Ana, though frustrated at first, went quiet the mont Ashlyn glanced at her.
"So?"
Seeing the situation settle down, I was the first to talk.
Ashlyn simply looked at before giving a small smile that felt quite beautiful, with the light falling on her face from the window across the room.
The scene was strangely satisfying, as if it was crafted to serve a specific purpose.
"You might already be aware of the reason that I might have invited you here for?"
At Ashlyn’s question, I leaned back in my chair before massaging my neck once... twice.
"Before answering that, I want to know... why the bootlicking?"
"..."
"..."
Silence.
Neither of the two spoke, as they just stared at blankly.
Even Ashlyn, who at first looked like the one in control of the room, appeared to be a little shaken—
No.
She appeared to be surprised by my straightforwardness.
After all, what I said was the truth.
Everything that she had been doing so far was a form of bootlicking in my view.
"What do you an by that?"
Even though she might already have had an idea about what I was talking about, Ashlyn kept her act ongoing nonetheless.
Fair enough.
"I don’t see there being any reason to publicise my return to the academy. After all, there wasn’t anything to gain from it."
And I wasn’t wrong.
There was hardly any real profit that she could have derived by—
"I was just being a reasonable news reporter."
Hm?
That was quite the way to put it.
"I never knew such jobs were in demand."
Ashlyn just shrugged her shoulders in response.
"But I wouldn’t exactly call my actions bootlicking."
After a short silence, Ashlyn spoke while slightly leaning forward.
"Is that so? Well... after the recent attacks on guilds all around the world, I don’t see any reason for you to require my assistance in the fight for the position of the council president."
"..."
"Victoria’s faction has been weakened as it is, and the disadvantage that you had after the initial attack in your duchy has been levelled too. So... why the bootlicking, miss?"
This ti, it was my turn to lean on the table before staring into Ashlyn’s eyes, which were now closer to mine than ever before.
We maintained the position for so seconds before I chose to withdraw.
Honestly, I had no interest in getting into a staring contest with the Levaith.
