These two questions of Jiang Xinghai's were extrely important.
First: Who had leaked the news to the Wang, Song, and Yu Families that his parents were passing through Jizhou with the Ancient Martial Secret Manual?
Could it have co from the terrifying, mysterious old man who appeared later?
Second: Since the entire Wang Family had been wiped out and the Song Family had moved away from Jizhou years ago, did the Yu Family's widowed survivor know any more secrets?
"Jiang, the only widow who survived from the Yu Family is nad Su Yanyun. To be precise, she was the concubine Old Mr. Yu was taking that night. It's a pity that before they could even enter the bridal chamber, the Yu Family was burned to ashes in a great fire," Shen Zhengye reminisced about the past, his expression grave. "As for where Su Yanyun ended up, I only found out from Lingxue this morning…"
He turned to look at Shen Lingxue.
"I'll tell him."
Shen Lingxue sat down beside him. "Su Yanyun and I were high school classmates. I ran into her at a reunion half a month ago. Her life isn't nearly as bad as you might think; in fact, she's doing very well. She just got back from out of town and is planning to invest in a new costics company."
"You know where she is?" Excitent flashed in Jiang Xinghai's eyes.
"I do." Shen Lingxue nodded, looking pleased.
"That's great!"
Jiang Xinghai couldn't help but grasp Shen Lingxue's delicate hand. He took a deep breath and smiled. "President Shen, Su Yanyun might be my last hope for figuring out that mysterious old man's identity."
"Don't worry. You've helped the Shen Family so much, it's only right that I repay you. Getting her to et with us won't be difficult, but the timing might not be entirely up to us. We'll have to work around her schedule." Seeing Jiang Xinghai so excited, Shen Lingxue couldn't help but smile too.
"That's fine. Any sliver of hope is a good thing."
Jiang Xinghai gazed into Shen Lingxue's beautiful eyes. "Worst-case scenario, even if Su Yanyun doesn't know the mysterious old man's identity, we can still look for the Song Family that moved out of Jizhou. I need to plan this out properly."
He lowered his head and fell into deep thought.
Shen Lingxue instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but her father deliberately touched her shoulder and shook his head.
The aning in Shen Zhengye's eyes was crystal clear: he was encouraging Shen Lingxue to be physically affectionate with Jiang Xinghai.
Shen Lingxue naturally understood her father's gaze and shyly lowered her head.
'If her father knew that she and Jiang Xinghai had spent a wild night together—seven tis, just the night before last—would he be happy, or sad?'
"President Shen…"
"Why don't you call her Lingxue when it's just us?" Shen Zhengye chid in with a smile.
Shen Lingxue looked up, fidgeting shyly, but chose to tacitly agree.
Undeniably, she did have so feelings for Jiang Xinghai.
But her feelings were limited to just that—liking him. As for the word "love," she was still far from it.
"Lingxue, why don't you go try and set up a eting with Su Yanyun? Uncle and I will chat a bit more," Jiang Xinghai said with a relieved smile.
Shen Lingxue nodded, then got up and left.
At that mont, Shen Zhengye spoke again. "Jiang, let answer your second question."
"I'm all ears." Jiang Xinghai's expression beca serious.
Shen Zhengye recounted with a complicated expression, "Back then, after Lingxue and I pulled your parents to shore, their lives were out of danger, but… both of their Dantians had been destroyed, and the tendons in their arms and legs had been severed…"
"What!"
Jiang Xinghai's expression instantly twisted with rage.
'Those bastards were so cruel!'
'Damn them! Damn them all!!!'
"I wanted to take them to a hospital for treatnt, but Jizhou is full of powerful factions. I was worried word would get out and I wouldn't be able to guarantee their safety. So, I decided to take them to Lin City myself to find a doctor. But halfway there, a burly middle-aged man showed up and took them away," Shen Zhengye continued.
"Taken away?" Jiang Xinghai's expression was still a mask of fury.
"But rest assured, according to your parents, the man was an old acquaintance. Before he left, he said he would one day bestow a great fortune upon the Shen Family…" Shen Zhengye said with a slow smile. "I never imagined that five years later, you would appear. You truly have brought a great fortune to my Shen Family—a montous one, at that."
"I…"
Jiang Xinghai couldn't help but give a wry smile.
'He had no idea about any of that.'
"At the ti, the burly man was driving a Jeep Wrangler. He took your parents and headed south. As for their final destination, I'm afraid I don't know," Shen Zhengye finished, having recounted the events of that year without leaving anything out.
"Phew..."
Jiang Xinghai let out a long breath after hearing the tale.
'Even though he didn't know their final location, at least he knew his parents hadn't died all those years ago!'
"By the way, Uncle, did the middle-aged man ever ntion his na?" Jiang Xinghai was eager to grasp every clue.
Shen Zhengye pondered for a good long while before his expression suddenly cleared. "Ah, my mistake. I seem to recall your parents calling him 'Luohan Brothers'."
