"Let's have a drink."
Jiang Xinghai picked up the bottle and filled his own glass, but only poured a splash into Su Yanyun's, just enough to cover the bottom.
"What? You think I can't hold my liquor? Fill it up." Su Yanyun forcefully snatched the bottle and filled her own glass to the brim.
Then, she took out a pack of cigarettes and placed one between her lips.
Jiang Xinghai raised a hand and lit it for her.
"Since you're so considerate, I'll continue my story. But as for whether you'll find your answers... I can't help you there." Su Yanyun took a deep drag from her cigarette, her eyes fixed on Jiang Xinghai.
"Please," Jiang Xinghai said, nodding.
"The day after I beca that old geezer's woman, the Yu Family sent out a flood of invitations, preparing for our wedding."
A complicated look filled Su Yanyun's eyes. She stared out the window and continued, "According to local tradition, the wedding ceremony was scheduled for midnight. But the awful part is... that old bastard just dropped dead in bed, bleeding from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth."
"He just dropped dead?" This was news to Jiang Xinghai.
"Good riddance!"
Su Yanyun seed to recall the night she was violated by Old Mr. Yu, and she let out a vindicated laugh. "In that instant, the entire Yu Family was thrown into chaos. It was like their whole world had co crashing down. So much for being a great family! It was pathetic!"
Jiang Xinghai didn't interrupt, simply gesturing for her to continue.
"The entire Yu Family gathered in the main hall, probably to fight over the inheritance. No one was paying any attention to . So, deciding to go all in, I grabbed several of the old bastard's treasured antique scrolls and paintings and fled. I was less than a minute away from the manor when a deafening explosion erupted behind ..."
Su Yanyun's expression beca incredibly tense, the mory still making her shudder. "The entire place went up in a pillar of fire. The Yu Family... was gone. Just like that."
"And that's the whole story?" Jiang Xinghai asked with a frown.
"That's it." Su Yanyun gave a slight nod.
Then she picked up her glass, closed her eyes, and downed it in one go.
"Miss Su, forgive for being blunt, but you were the only survivor. Didn't anyone suspect you of being the one who started the fire?" Jiang Xinghai also raised his glass and drained it in a single gulp.
"No!"
A look of bewildernt crossed Su Yanyun's face as she recalled it. "At the ti, I had no idea the entire Yu clan had been wiped out in the fire. When I found out later, I was scared to death. I an, I was the only person from the great Yu Family left alive. I was certain to be branded the killer!"
"So that's why you stayed away from Jizhou for three years, isn't it, Miss Su?" It was starting to make sense to Jiang Xinghai.
"That's right!"
Su Yanyun hiccuped. "The next day, when I heard the Yu Family was gone, I was terrified. I left Jizhou right away and told my parents and family to go into hiding... But who would've thought that to this day, three years later, it's like no one has ever even asked about what happened to the Yu Family..."
"It's like the Yu Family never even existed in Jizhou, right?" Jiang Xinghai's expression shifted.
'It's been a day since the Wang Family was wiped out, and so far, there's been complete silence.'
'It was the sa with the Yu Family all those years ago!'
'This proves it. There has to be a powerful figure pulling the strings behind all of this!'
'Could it be that mysterious old man?'
"The Yu Family was a Martial Arts Clan in Jizhou. They carried a lot of weight. Yet for them to be wiped out with absolutely no repercussions... it's just like you said. It's as if there was never a Yu Family in Jizhou to begin with. The whole thing is just too bizarre. But just a few days ago, I ran into..."
Realizing she was on the verge of revealing a secret, Su Yanyun abruptly closed her mouth.
"Who did you run into a few days ago?" Jiang Xinghai pressed.
"Nothing."
Su Yanyun suddenly rose from the sofa and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window, her steps slightly unsteady.
Her expression and the slight tremor running through her shoulders made it clear she was still hiding sothing from Jiang Xinghai.
"Miss Su, the Wang Family, the Yu Family, and the Song Family, who moved away from Jizhou many years ago—they all hurt my parents. So, in a way, we're on the sa side. You don't need to worry about my discretion," Jiang Xinghai said as he slowly stood up.
He had to reveal a secret of his own to make her understand.
"The Wang Family is gone... Don't tell that was you..." Su Yanyun whirled around to face him.
"That's right. I'm the one who wiped out the Wang Family last night."
Jiang Xinghai didn't deny it; with his power, he had no need to.
Su Yanyun drew in a sharp breath, her face paling. "You... you wiped out the Wang Family by yourself?"
"It was a walk in the park."
Jiang Xinghai stated calmly, "I'm not just a doctor. I'm a martial artist. The Wang Family was nothing special."
"Then the destruction of the Yu Family... was that your doing as well?" Su Yanyun asked in astonishnt.
"It wasn't."
Jiang Xinghai shook his head. "I've only been in Jizhou for a week. I just recently found out about the Yu Family myself. I simply want to know more about the secrets behind it, which is why I had Shen Lingxue find you."
Su Yanyun fell silent for a long while, apparently thinking things through. Finally, she seed to reach a decision.
She decided to tell him who she had really t a few days ago.
